Istoria ne dovedește cât se poate de clar că pretențiile maghiare asupra Transilvaniei sunt lipsite de conținut. Acest lucru este pus în evidență de proprii lor istorici care au recunoscut de-a lungul timpului că românii au locuit în acest spațiu înainte de venirea ungurilor și că întotdeauna, fără excepție, au fost națiunea majoritară. Cu toate acestea, mulți extremiști maghiari flutură prin fața noastră sintagma UNGARIA MARE, ca și cum ar fi existat cu adevărat așa ceva. În realitate, între anii 1526 și 1920, adică timp de 400 de ani, Ungaria nu a existat ca stat independent, nu a avut o capitală proprie și, în consecință, nu putea să fie nici mare și nici mică. Practic, UNGARIA MARE nu a existat niciodată!!! Iată ce ne spune într-un articol foarte interesant jurnalistul Miron Manega despre contextul geopolitic, după bătălia de la Mohacs din 1526: “În 1526 a avut loc celebra bătălie de la Mohacs, în care forțele Regatului Ungariei, conduse de arhiepiscopul Pál Tomori și de regele Ludovic al II-lea (în vârstă de 20 de ani), au fost nimicite de sultanul Suleiman Magnificul. Ungaria a fost transformată în pașalâc turcesc și avea să rămână așa până la 1699 când, în urma tratatului de la Karlowitz, avea să intre în componența Imperiului Habsburgic. Transformarea Ungariei în pașalâc turcesc nu s-a repercutat însă și asupra principatului Transilvania (o dovadă în plus că Ungaria și Transilvania erau două entități statale diferite! - n.m.). Autonomia Transilvaniei a fost recunoscută de Imperiul Otoman, Transilvania având același statut, respectat de turci, ca și Țara Românească și Moldova. Suleiman Magnificul a înțeles, probabil, după cele 20 de înfrângeri suferite în confruntarea cu domnitorul Țării Românești Radu de la Afumați (1522-1526), că puterea militară a celor trei principate (Moldova, Țara Românească și Transilvania) nu-i poate permite cucerirea acestora, fiind mult mai înțelept să accepte plata unui tribut în schimbul păcii cu acestea. În ceea ce o privește pe Ungaria, începând cu bătălia de la Mohacs (1526) și până la tratatul de la Trianon (1920), Ungaria nu a mai fost stat de sine stătător, cu capitală proprie (doar sub forma dualismului austro-ungar, începând din 1867). A fost, cu alte cuvinte, o țară asistată.” Practic, Ungaria a devenit o țară independentă, de sine stătătoare, abia după desființarea Imperiului Austro Ungar, odată cu încheierea Primului Război Mondial. Ba, mai mult, datorită armatei române, care a ocupat temporar Budapesta în 1919 și i-a alungat pe bolșevici, vecinilor noștri de la apus li s-a amânat ocupația comunistă cu 25 de ani, un lucru pentru care ar putea să ne fie veșnic recunoscători.
