They were such a terrible band, but they stuck with it, worked their tails off and only a few short years later you got It's Alive which is perhaps the greatest live rock album ever. Goes to show, practice practice practice. No band starts out great
John Lydon needs to watch this. Ramones & Television in 1974 New York created what we know as modern punk rock. John Lydon was still just a greasy long haired hippie while this was being CREATED
I can't work out how I feel about the ramones, I understand this was before Sex pistols and stiff little fingers, but it feels like a natural evolution from 6 years earlier when MC5 did kick out the jams and then stooges, new york dolls, but theres aomethkng about John Lydon's delivery/attitude/behaviour and offensive lyrical content that means i associate that with the meaning of punk in a way I dont in terms of those american bands, the Sex pistols were banned from venues, not shown in the charts, ended up in court becauae of god save the queen, so when we discuss punk there must be consideration that it isnt just a sound
The last time I saw Joey Ramone, I was eating beef yakisoba at DoJo with Daniel Abella. Joey walked by to my right, smiling underneath his trademark sunglasses with a girl. .....
I think that place had the smallest stage and even smaller backstage of anyplace I've ever been in so many unbelievable signatures on the walls I was going to cut a few off but we ended up breaking the toilet off the floor and we were asked to leave lol good memories
Damn... And I'm curious to know: And why did Joey stopped to move in the way like he was moving in that 1974 video? I don't understand. I would like to understand better, please.
This footage was recorded mid Sept 1974 by a local theatre group, who gave the band the tape after the set. They weren't even a month into playing CBGBs at this point. Johnny and Tommy (who were really the ring leaders in terms of how the band represented themselves) studied this particular tape in order to make adjustments to the bands stage representation. Changes included getting Dee Dee to play with a pick instead of his fingers (which you can see he is doing here), and getting Joey to stop flopping around the stage, which is probably influenced by Jagger and Alice Cooper. They thought it'd be more striking for him to be more still during his performance. They also streamlined their leather jacket/jeans/sneakers more by studying this tape; which they didn't perfect by the time of this video (this being Sept '74, a lot of bands - Ramones included - were only slightly coming out of the glam/glitter look of the Dolls).
Interesting to notice how Joey behaves freely on stage, moving more. Very different from the rigid figure he has become later. Wonder how the band poor dynamics, specially with Jhonny, affected him along the years.
There's this story in Johnny's biography, Tommy and Johnny also watched this video, and tried to analyze what they should improve, and they told Joey to stop dancing and just hold the support, which would improve the band's general image
Joey looks so freaky homo in this gig must be influenced by marc Bolan or the dolls thank God he gave up that shortly after while johnny and dee dee already look like they always are amazing thanks for this gemm
All we ever hear about these days are the pretenders to the crown of greatest band of all time: Stones, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Floyd etc etc ad nauseum. See now the power and the majesty of the true, the one and only greatest band of all time: The Ramones. This is what started me and my friends on our own punk rock journey, thanks to these punk rock gods. Hell, when my cat heard this, even he wanted to start up a punk rock band.

1:01 is the sound of “Oh fuck, Johnny’s gonna punch me”
I'm sure they argued who was riding shotgun in the van on the way to the show.
What amp was Johnny using here?
electro-harmonix-mike-matthews-freedom-amp
I cannot believe that this footage really exists!..They were doing this back in 1974??
Pure genius.
Saw them maybe 5 or 6 times from 81 to 86. Awesome every time!
50 anos de idade 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Back in the 90s I had an English friend who insisted that the Ramones couldn't be a punk band because of their haircuts. 🤣🤣🤣

I saw the Ramones more times than I can count, but THIIS?!?!
6:52 long. So they did 16 songs?
Not funny
Unoriginal
Worst comment of all time?
@@bannedfrom992 It was a joke. They were my favorite band from 77 to 82. I must have seen them 12 or 14 times in Boston and New York.
@@wadeyearsago I laughed. Bannedfrom992 clearly needed to stress his online smug persona by writing 3 messages in a row. Probably from the UK.
The new york dolls but not as faggy
New York baby
How did they manage to get so much SUCKAGE on one stage…
One day before I was born, it's a sign!! Born punk hahah
CdMx Julio 2024
I can see why they told Joey to stop dancing and just hold onto the mike stand

Little did they know they were about to change the world.

Were punk started
Smithers have the rolling stones killed.
Pioneers and heavily influential of the punk rock movement of the late seventies
