      @@outandacross It was amazing, I still have not stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen… lol. I want to get a video put together to post but it’s been such a busy summer. Just got back from a kayaking trip to Keji yesterday but I’ll be putting things together soon. We took a day longer than we planned as I had a reaction on day 1, where I just blew up (like retaining fluid in my face and ankles) and overheating. Gorgeous view at the end of the day and we camped there overnight. 🌄Day 2, we ran into Tropical Storm Debby that dumped 100ml of rain on us making what would be easy water jumps to fast flowing water crossings coming off the hills. Ended up at Marks Pond that night and then being flooded out… 🤪 Finally day 3, and 4 I got my stride, both gorgeous days and stayed at Hardings Pond and Green Island Pond. Started day 5 with a water crossing to our hips with a cold foggy day ahead of us. Made it to Ferry Gulch and stayed to night to get warm. Low single digits that night. 🥶. Climbed Gros Morne on Day 6 with beautiful clear 360 views at the top. We made our way out by mid afternoon to catch the ferry that night back to NS. Now that I’ve recouped from the swelling in my legs and face…. We are planing our next epic trip!

    Can you provide a little more info on the side route to the viewpoint of the fjord at Bakers Brook Pond? Is it an out and back? Same trail there as back, or connect back onto the LRT further down the trail? Thanks

    • @outandacross
      @outandacross 4 месяца назад

      yes, it's an out and back route - no trail. We dropped our packs and made our way to the lookout. We left a pin when we dropped packs and returned to the same location, then continued on to Green Island Pond. Hope that helps!

    Thomas I found your blog about the LRT when I was doing research for myself and 3 of my best friends to do a trip to Newfoundland. Admittedly, we would probably do just the single day guided hike to Western Brook Pond (if they don't bail on the trip haha), but I'm wondering what month you did this hike in the video? We're looking at April or May. Although I know the weather can be unpredictable any time there! Anyways, cheers!

      Hey there! We hiked the LRT in August 2022. Western Brook Pond is very worthwhile and hiking to the top of the fjord is a good option if you'd rather not do the full LRT. You might find a sunny (or at least not rainy) day in May to enjoy the fjord. Good luck - cheers!

    Wilderness travel has so changed over the years. I hiked the beach from Lake Ozette to Rialto Beach back in the 1970's on the Olympic NP in Washington. We rarely saw many other groups of hikers during the trips. The beach was clean with very little debris. In 2022 I attempted to hike it again. A bad weather forecast resulted in me aborting the trip part way through. I ran into 60 mph winds and 4 inches of rain. The beach was clean at the trail heads but by the time I was a mile beyond the trail head the amount of debris was extremes. On a later trip I met another hiker that suggested the West Coast Trail. It sounds interesting. It also appears to be over used. I must be spoiled, too many other hikers and it is no longer a wilderness experience. It becomes a trip to a theme park. I did enjoy your video.

      Thanks for your comment. Definitely lots of hikers using the WCT. I'd call it a "social" hiking trail where you cross paths with others fairly often (pros and cons, depending on your preferences). Overall, a great place and one best hikes in Canada!

    What did you do for drinking water on the hike? Did you cross enough streams that you didn't feel you needed to carry lots of water?

    • @outandacross
      @outandacross Год назад

      Hey Kirk, I typically carry at least 2-litres in my bladder bag. That was more than enough for me (and I drink a lot). We crossed a few streams through the forest portion, and each campsite has easy access to fresh water streams. Recommend filtering before use. I'll include these details in the how-to guide coming soon. 🙂
