Giller Prize
Добавлен 25 мар 2020
The Giller Prize was founded in 1994 by Jack Rabinovitch in honour of his late wife, literary journalist Doris Giller, who passed away from cancer the year before. The award recognized excellence in Canadian fiction - long format, short stories or graphic novels.
In 2005, The Giller Prize teamed up with Scotiabank to create the Scotiabank Giller Prize. It is the first-ever co-sponsorship for Canada’s richest literary award for fiction. The purse increased from $25,000 to $50,000, grew again in 2008 to $70,000, and increased to $140,000 in 2014.

Held is a book that doesn’t give it to you on a plate. In fact you may have to bring your own plate. It will however hold your hand. Feel the gaps. Breathe. Give it space. Be held. You will get out of it what it let’s you put in. Stunning book.
Giller would be wise to not award a pro Palestinian
Best interview I have seen on the book topic in general; intriguing entertaining brimming with substance all around. Kudos to both ladies.
All the characters, main and others in the Clarion novel seem not only real, but alive hanging out with us throughout the day as if a family or friends. I am pretty sure they will stay with me probably forever, all in a good way.
The comments about what makes a great editor are particularly inspired. Far too many editors try to insert themselves in the books and/or articles they're editing. What a great interview, The Clarion was easily the best book I read in 2023.
Great interview, feels like 2 friends discussing a new book
Just finished reading Washington Black. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
love her !!
What her ig
She’s very lucky to be so privileged in Egypt, on the other side of the fence women have a 180° different experience in Egypt.
This novel (and the short story it originated from) is why I'm against the idea of human ever going to Mars. Partly because of 1:19.
Pride of Tibet💐
I just requested your book from my library branch. Really looking forward to reading it. Thank you !
100 000 that's a down payment on a house, it's time to increase the prize amount
Oh my Word, can't decide if her diction is better than her novel, or is it vice versa. I am half way through readind Clarion, inhaling and slurping the charm of the marvelous descriptions.
Please correct the title of the book.
Thank you!
loved this book so much; I just finished reading it! the painful beauty of this story was exactly the medicine I needed! tomorrow I will give the copy given to me, to my Tibetan friend, living here on the Canadian prairies.
❤️
I'm so excited to see this! Halfway through this book and it is absolutely mesmerizing ~ Stacey M.
Yes, I love this. Beautiful reading.
Bravo!
The book is an ugly, dark portrayal of Cairo ever so eloquently written and delicately woven together. Is it arrogant to return to a place you have never been? Yes, if you choose to write about it because you just might project your preconceived fantasies on what you see and confirm the well-established stereotype. Your expectations might taint your perception. Can you deny anyone the right to express their own experience? No, each person is entitled to their own reality colored by their past and the burden of the baggage they carry. Too many, Egyptians this book does not represent their world.
This is exactly the point of the book, the narrator is unreliable. It shows that a westerner can misrepresent a culture and their biased audience would view it as fact. A lot of the "facts" in this book were wrong on purpose. As an Egyptian you can spot it easily, at one point the footnote attributes Shaabi songs to Omar Khirat. It's challenging the reader's biases, not enforcing them.

28:00 dude people obviously do quote Thomas King saying stories are all we are.
I didn't understand how it ended
I am really❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Fabulous book! Very informative and interesting. Very beautifully written.
Great book! 👍 Let you kids read it too😊
Great conversation on a great book. I appreciated getting to hear from Noor that a sense of frustration was intentional. This was one of the most challenging books I've ever read and I appreciated it as such. As a chance to sit with discomfort, with sadness at who's voices get heard, at vampiric notions in relationships. Great book, and great conversation!
Thanks for watching!
Loved this interview!
Thanks for watching!
I loved the show, it’s the first show where the tv viewer can have a real immersion in this wonderful ancestry culture. It was an amazing open door and suddenly they shut it up abruptly because there was a problem or scandal with producer. Sometimes the anger and the sensitivity could take away some positive initiatives and cut the ropes of any communication, ❤🌈❤️
Wow just his way of conversation is embedded with beautiful prose! will definitely check out his novels
I am really interested to read this book 📚😃
I read We, Jane for my book club in Vancouver, Canada. I really appreciate this interview to help me guide our discussion :) thanks!
Ian Williams is such a warm, encouraging and skilled interviewer. Thank you for this1
I can't wait to watch this awesome streaming live! 🙌🙌
When the interviewer says he wants to be Clara I actually feel like that's kind of an insult. Perhaps only someone whose a book reader and not indigenous and never went to residential school would say they want their life to be a character in a novel who attended a residential school.
Great book and great interview 😊
Thank u
great book! big like
What a terrific panel and discussion. Loved it. Thanks so much.
Whether with her written words or her lively descriptions of what led to her stories, Rachel Rose always captivates her audience and leaves them wanting more
Richard Van Camp you are all kinds of genius pinworms.
Casey Platt would have been a strong addition to this panel.
Very engaging book
Love your reading, angelique!!!

Honestly I can seriously relate to this character because when I hear a sound I have to find the noise or else I would get anxious
This was lovely. Getting me excited to read this!
