Thanks you are great!! <3
I've seen more hand percussion instructional videos than I could count. Yours is the first I've seen in which you use slow motion to demonstrate the movement of an instrument. That is brilliant! This is an immeasurably more effective learning method for those of us who learn better by listening and watching - as opposed to those who learn by seeing the notes on a page. I can use both methods, but for percussion, I prefer listening and watching. And the slow motion was perfect. Thank you!
Waiting for that 3rd lesson for a while now ;-;
@@mechanicalwings2569 hi! I'll prioritise that for one of my next videos.. thanks :)
Thank you 😊
This is amazing. Will there ever be a third lesson?
@@tompfeifel149 there are some more on my channel if you'd like to check them out. And yes, I will be uploading more too. Thanks!
I feel like im getting confused when going from the just shake rhythm to the swing the ball rhythm? It sounds like hes going from 16th notes (CHA ka cha ka CHA ka cha ka) to a triplet rhyrhm (CHA ka ka CHA ka ka) with the click on CHA. Am i missing something?
Hi! Very good question actually. So, the point is that you're still playing 16th notes, just grouped in 3s (unless you CHOOSE to hear it as triplets but thats a whole other box of frogs). Remember that a grouping of 3 notes isn't always a triplet. Maybe I should post a Short clarifying this exact query. Would you find that helpful? :)
Thanks for this amazing lesson! I saw hiatus live yesterday, also in the Netherlands. And I think it’s so cool you noticed that small thing in his playing. Yesterday, I saw him playing a lot of times on his chest, I guess to keep time? Amazing stuff
Cheers, appreciate you watching and commenting. He is a fantastic musician, and what a great band!
what if the string is too long?

Where do I buy?
Asalato Sampa, Kashaka UK, Etsy, Koshkashmoussa, Okume Percussion, mobile tribe, asaratopanman.. check out my other videos, and google some of these names 😁
Bro the edit at the start had me cackling 😂 great video man ♥️
Hahahaha couldn't help myself! Maybe that sample will forever render this video unmonetisable, let's see 😹 thanks for supporting bro xx
Took me a while to figure the length out. First it was too long and I could only catch them like every 1 out of 10 tries. Then I shortened it and could catch it every time but only if I threw it really hard. Last night I watched another of your videos and you could just let it dangle and then toss it up and catch it which I couldn't do. So I made it a little longer and could do what you were doing. I think it's near perfect now after a couple weeks but I'm sure I'll adjust it again eventually as I get better. It's a process lol
It definitely is a process! Glad you're finding some success, and thanks for watching. Happy practicing!
Thanks for the detailed instructions! Ive had them for a couple weeks and the hardest part has been continuing to shake while releasing them. As soon as i swing it around it completely throws off my rhythm lol just gotta keep practicing until it feels more natural
Definitely! Keep at it and you'll get it. Enjoy! :)
love you, today i finally learned to do the around the world movement. so happy because your video helped a lot
Glad you found it helpful. Cheers
Love this! Thank you!

Awesome, I like them too :)
Ever feel you got scammed buying a book. Looks like you didn’t need it for that clutch cargo gig.
What you on about mate? 😹
Where do you buy them
This is so much harder than it looks 😂 it just flops all over the place for me lol definitely will take some practice
Your videos are really good and fun. I have no music background so they're great. Such a fun instrument.
@@CCBBATKD glad you enjoy them! Thanks for watching.
Hey, I'm a percussionist trying to learn. Any chance you'd do a few private lessons over zoom?
Super !👍 Merci pour vos explications 🙏🪷🌿
Pas des problemes! :)
How long should the cord between the balls be?
Just posted a new video about rope length, check it out! :)
@@PeteGalea where do I buy Asalatos?
Impossible! Cant get it! Can the ropę be too long? So dofgicult
Just posted a new video about rope length, check it out! :)
Hi Pete, Total beginner here. Does learning to catch the second ball come with practice or is there a specific technique? Thanks for these lessons!
Lots of practice, patience, and having fun! You will get it :) Cheers
How ling should be the string between the balls? I have one with long and the other pair with a short string. Or it doesn't matter?
@@Panyusha it's about trial and error, see what works for you. However, that is by far my highest asked question, so I'll make a video about it soon! As a starting point, long enough for 1 finger's space between your knuckles and tbe string, when holding it still :)
Thanks for such a great first lesson. I'm just gonna shake along to music one-handed while driving. I think that should get me started.
@@laurawillits176 glad you like the lesson! Not sure about practicing while driving though 😹
@@PeteGalea I'll be very careful! Gotta take a long freeway trip tomorrow. I'll see if it works out.

great video and funny too and very entertaining. I have difficulties with what you called the "air turn". It is something i want to learn. I will check if you have other videos on that
@@mikeianosiproject-acoustic5924 I'll be filming a tutorial for airturns and reverse airturns in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
@@PeteGalea your t-shirt is amazing 🙂
I believe that this is a polyrhythm of 5/4 superimposed on swung 16/16, together creating a 1-2-3, 1-2 pulse.
@@WlSDOOM not at all I'm afraid. It's straight 16th notes in 4/4. No polyrhythms at all present here.
@@PeteGalea are there quarter note triplets over a 16th note backbeat?

Thanks Pete. Too much fun but people in my house keep shouting ' STOP THAT KNOCKING NOISE!' :) So now I go for walks ......

@@trickeyt.v96 check my channel! I've got lessons there with more to come as well :)
what size balls do you recommend - 5cm diameter? 4cm ? 3cm?
@@ecdysview I believe my first set was 4.5mm
I just bought kauss kauss ,but I feel I may need to change the length of the rope ,what is the ideal length?
@@trickeyt.v96 I'm gonna make a video explaining that very soon! Trial and error really, see what works for you but when holding the shakers, about one finger worth of space between the rope and your knuckles is a good starting point.
Can anyone tell mem if they've tried different models and/or materials ; I've bought mine but find they "bounce" too much ad can't catch them under little finger. Obviously, being a beginner, I don't know if it's me or just cheap material, are they too big for my hand etc etc......Thanks for any feedback,
Merci 🙏🪷🌼

I tried and it is really hard to keep shaking while doing the click clack lol It will take a lot of practice, so yeah don't underestimate that :D
so good ❤

Great stuff man. I'm a multi instrumentalist and I tend to learn things myself and usually by ear alone. However, this instrument is deceptively simple! And your detailed yet laidback approach. You provide the small technical details while reminding us to "relax", which a perfectionist like me needs to hear! Thank you for these videos, brother!
