The HD pan America is a great bike, but if your gonna use a non-HD tank bag, please beware of a safety issue. The tank bag support straps found on many tank bags should not be used in a traditional fashion at the front of the tank bag. View my video to find out why.

Must be a HD headset?
Nope any Bluetooth headset will work!
Very good advice! Thanks
Perfect! Thank you!
Can I pear the apple AirPods Pro to Panamerica?
I’ve moved on to a new bike, but I don’t think you would want to. Better to pair the phone to the bike and to your airpods
Does the phone need data service to display on navigation?
Not if you pre download the area to your downloaded maps
Pairing the headset and phone TO THE BIKE is where I was messing up. Not completely necessary if you use the controls on the headset, but it sure is nice to have everything working. Thank you.
Can you use apple carplay?
No apple carplay on 2021 and 2022. I'm not sure about newer models
Have it in the headline.
You're an idiot. Learn what you're doing and stop spreading stupidity.
Thx for the informative video, at the start you comment that you didn't want ARH, but accepted the additional cost to ensure a reasonable delivery lead time. the thing that sucks for you is that you cannot turn it off in the preset ride modes; Rain, Road, and Sport., and even then you don't know how the ARH is configured i.e. Auto, Auto fast, or auto slow. Quite irritating, you basically only have two custom mode options to configure without ARH. I have the opposite problem where I do want ARH but I have no control over how it is configured in the preset ride modes.
Hello there,Which side of the gerbin sae to male coax is the positive? i it the expose pin from the sae trickle charger SIDE EXPOSED PIN positive? I AM PLANING IN WELDING SAE RED AND BLACK TO MY GPS WIRES (RED AND BLACK ) AND THEN CONNECTING THIS GERBIN ADAPTER TO MY HARLEY SPORTSTER S 2022 FEMALE HEATED COAX IN ORDER TO SUPPLY POWER TO MY GPS.
the protected part is always positive. So follow you lead from the battery. connect your adaptor, and the protected portion of the SAE will be your positive, while the bare metal portion will be your ground.
@@robertbaker2964 Thank you so much my friend, It’s been very helpful for me, Finally i got it to work properly by using this Gerbin adapter and your advises.
Can you connect a helmet without using a phone?
Somehow I never received this message. But yes you can connect a headset without a phone.
My ride height does not lower all the time when stopping. Ou get confidence in the bike and bingo you stop and it is on full height. I have fallen badly and find an expensive bike unacceptable. Bad news
Any chance it’s in a custom ride mode when that happens? It could be locked out in the custom ride mode
Thank you for this information 👍🏽
This is great information but I’m having trouble actually viewing it on the Pan America’s infotainment screen. All I get are checker boards.
I believe I heard some folks were having this issue. Have you tried downloading the maps onto your phone in the Harley app?
@@usamedic I’ve tried multiple times. Still didn’t work.
I have been looking for a RUclips video of seeing the Harley app on the bike’s TFT screen. I saw one where a guy in England (I think) used it with just two waypoints; start and finish. I would like to see one with many waypoints on the TFT. That would be typical for rides my HOG chapter usually do.
@@n228sk I gave up on the Harley app and got a Garmin Zumo XT. No problems or headaches and it works every time!
I got a question. I wanna add some Baja design S2 fog lights upfront. You think I can use that heated gear gerbing wire trick to wire those lights in? The S2’s only pull like 4 amps total. Plus that would make sure they can’t be left on accidentally.
You could use it to power them. But I think I would wire them direct to the battery, with a relay that is triggered from a switch.
@@usamedic so the kit comes with a wire harness that includes a relay and switch. I was hoping that I could use that SAE adapter in place of going to the battery directly. This way, there’s no way I could accidentally leave them on. I’ve never wired anything like fog lights to a bike so I was just looking for thee easiest way.
@@URBANAMERICANTAC it would work for sure. Maybe a better plan would be to wire in a small fuse block off that hot lead so you could then add other things later like additional lights, bigger and better horn, gps, and other goodies
@@usamedic awesome. Thanks for the advice.
Worked out awesome. I was able to run my S2’s and used the Baja designs wiring harness. The Gerbing SAE adapter worked great with an SEA plug and red and black wire. Obviously I had to reverse the red and black for the correct positive and negative but that was easy. I just used shrink wrap to change the black to red and the red to black. Couldn’t be happier and when it’s all said and done, I can remove the entire set up in 15 minutes.
bloody complicated I wonder who designs these softwares
Thx for this video - helped a lot. Greetings from Germany
thanks!. THe bike was brand new and there was little help from dealers at the time. After 1.4 million miles on bikes I've learned a few useful tricks . :)
I just bought a HD helmet with sena system in it but I don't have the phone button on peice on the outside of helmet. Added phone to 22 pan s but can't get head set to connect , anyone have same issue
Try holding different buttons till you here phone pairing. That will be your phone button, this will then pair the sena to your bike, even though it says phone
@@usamedic helmet says pairing and PA is spinning to connect but never does, don't know. PA says phone is connected (in blue) and my samsung note 9 says I'm connected to both, but from your video maybe that's the issue. It won't let me control phone from handle bar or when I set a trip up on HD app it shows pointer and route road but no background.. strange
@@BGPD70 when you say your Samsung is connected to both? Do you mean the Samsung is connected to the PA and the sena????? That would not be the way it works. You will need to connect the sena to Harley, and the Harley to the phone. I hope I sm understanding you right.
@@robertbaker2964 ok I'll delete both from BT on phone and delete phone from PA start over and try that, thank's
@@robertbaker2964 Thank you Robert and all that replied. I disconnected/unpaired all three devices and turned off bluetooth on phone , paired just helmet to pan America and confirmed blue letters then turned helmet off. Turned on bluetooth on phone and paired it with pan America and confirmed. Everything is working perfectly now , and most importantly I did not have to buy the expensive Winn system Harley Davidson is pushing to get things working. Thank's again everyone.
Are you pairing the harley branded sena s or a sena 20s? I guess my question is can you use the non harley sena 20s?And does handle bar controls work with non harley sena 20s?
Standard sena, and all the controls work
@@usamedic thanks
Why not use the available bracket for the Zumo XT that goes above the TFT display. There are several and I put one on made by a guy on Facebook in one of the Pan Am Groups.
Still waiting for touratech one to be available
They were not available a year ago when I posted this either
@@usamedic I see, makes sense
@@usamedic you want the locking feature then since those look a bit over engineered.
It stands to reason that if you bought a hd pan america special with the optional adaptive ride height feature that it would stay on. That's what the custom modes are for. Its not like you have to customize the bike everytime you want to turn off this feature. Set up your custom mode once with the settings you like that have the adaptive ride feature off. After that, any other time that you want to turn off the feature just hit the mode button and chose your custom mode. Not a big deal. Awesome bike.
Agree with you 100%. like I said though I wanted the Special, and I just did not need the ride height adjustment. After riding the bike quite a bit I decided I do like the ride height on auto. the only thing that I don't like about it is when you stop and put the side stand down you have to rock the bike a little to the right to get it down. After riding it a month or so you get used to it.
I've the cardo SRC for schubert helmets, and impossible to pair with the bike
Cardo SRC pairs with nothing, same problem with my GS !
I tried this and was not successful getting phone to charge. Used same Gerbing connector off Harley wire. To the Gerbing I plugged in a sae to sae wire to get me in bag. To that I plugged a sae to USB Battery Tender conversion plug, then Samsung phone charging wire. Would not charge with engine running. I removed the BT plug and connected a electric vest to the sae connector. Power worked fine. I took the BT plug and connected to sae Pigtail off Battery on PA and it worked charging the phone while engine was off. I plugged in a cigarette lighter adapter to the sae connector in bag and then a cigarette style plug and phone charger and it did not work (even though it works fine in my Road Glide). Also plugged a mini pump into same adapter in bag and it ran fine so power is getting to adapter. Any suggestions where I am going wrong?
That’s strange. If all pieces worked independently, they should work together. I have seen a few pieces not get pushed all the way together but I’m sure you checked for that. And of course the cig plug adaptors sometimes don’t make good connections
Super Trick, great install !!!
Thank you so much and sorry to hear you’ve been sick with covid, you make sure you get better properly! It’s the home button, but they don’t tell you that anywhere! Really appreciated Cheers Sam
I'm trying to wire my garmin Gps to my PA, the instructions say to wire directly to the battery but the videos I have watched say that a switched power source is best to avoid killing the battery, I'm thinking about wiring to the lights, would that be a suitable choice? I already checked the wiring diag and found the hot wires for headlamp in the front. any advice?
I would make use of the two heated gear wires under seat. Keep one for heated gear and use a coax to sae adaptor to then power either your tank bag or gps and radar or other accessories by running that wire under your tank and to the position you want. You will have no splices in factory wiring thus Harley can void your warranty and it’s pretty easy to do
Hi I have the Pan America in the UK, very impressed… when I collected the bike the Instrument Module display was a white background instead of black… nobody at HD in the UK can figure out how to change it back to black display, any ideas please? Thank you for your excellent videos, very helpful!
Sorry been sick with covid. It’s very simple. You hold down the left hand button for the display features. I’ll go downstairs and confirm which button in a bit. It will change from black to white
Thanks mate video was a great help 👍
Where did you get the cables?
www.gerbing.com/adapter-female
Kinda wide, what about the massive wind resistance? Nobody cares.
Well they collapse down to really narrow. And they are much narrower than the hard panniers. Also you don’t need the hard bag mounts to use, and I got up to 130mph without issue. Lastly they weigh almost nothing empty as opposed to my hard panniers
Great video. This is the first time I've seen this in a Pan America. YOu should add links in the description. Thanks for the video.
I was up late at work so here are the links to RKA luggage
Nice 👍🤓🇦🇺
The fact that this is the only place to change it is pretty FUBAR. Also considering the ride height adjustment at a stop, combined with the kickstand location means that you cannot deploy the kickstand without leaning the bike to the right when it's at a standstill.
Nice solution
seems to me the Grommet is a good choice Vs bare fabric... Just my two cents
Yea it is! But I dislike the Harley bag. And I’ve done it the other way for years and never had a problem. Fortunately, because I have the Harley bag, and it’s hardware, and a sewing machine, I modified the H-D straps to work for both my bags.
@@usamedic how do you like the tank bag, does it block the info screen? I have a PanAm and want something till I get the Panniers
@@cfreeway8385 Honestly, I’m not a big fan of the Harley in Davidson Pan America Tank bag. I have pretty much removed it in favor of an hour RKA in charge tank bag
Could the Velcro straps be run under the passenger seat instead of on top? Would look cleaner that way.
No. But normally it’s just two flat straps. I have a baseplate for my seat bag there as well
Great to know-could cause a real problem!!
What RKA tank bag do you recommend?
Shiloh roads both work, but I prefer the smaller one
Glad to see these bags out there. If I hadn't ordered and paid for the Harley Panniers, these would definitely be on my list.
i have been told my bags will be in soon, but no racks till septemberish.
I was considering the RK tank bad and decided to go with the Harley bag. Glad I did. Thanks for posting the video.
The Harley bag is sleek! But the RKA bag is so much more functional for me. With the FPS on top and the ability to keep my phone and cameras charged. And just enough room for a full size Glock sitting crossways
@@usamedic I agree the RK bag is very functional. Also, I carry my Sig in my inside chest pocket. :)
Nice clean look
So you discovered that Harley did a good job on the tank bag! Also since the H-D bag has one strap with the male buckle and the other strap with a female you simply buckle them together so they don’t dangle.
I can confirm that the firmware upgrade allows usb-c charging while the bike is running.
Hell with you tall guys. Lol
Agree! My thought it they will change this with future upgrades
Your video is horrible, lighting very poor.
It did I couldn't find it myself like you. So thx for the quick to the point video
You can run (and get wiring) to connect directly to you battery for your Garmin device. They sell it on their website.
True, but there’s no need with the two power points under the seat as they are ready to go. And with the bag being hot and having the ability to charge gps, phones, cameras, etc, I’m set for longer trips or charging multiple devices.
Will a cardo pair with it? I just got my Pan America and I use a Cardo pack talk
Yea, pair your phone to the Harley, and then pair your Carda to it as well
Cardio will pair to the bike
@@usamedic yes I got mine to pair. But it really was not a good connection? Every time I turned my head it would cut out?
@@klh3244 I noticed this with my 10s sena, but not at all with my 50s
