Great question! In my experience, I feel like it was much easier to start with smaller balls (even better: bean bags since they don't bounce everywhere when dropped). Part of that is because it's hard to handle so many basketballs at once that it might interfere with being able to pick up on the juggling pattern. It was really easy for me to pick up on the technique for the basketballs since I already knew the 3-ball cascade (juggling) so well. I'd love to know how it goes for you as you learn!

I really appreciate your question about that talk, because it affects LGBTQ people and especially how we are treated. Disclaimers: people may not like my answer, but it is an honest one. Also, it is impossible to truly know the intentions for this talk. Whether or not it was intended to be hurtful, it certainly has been for many people and it is important to allow their experience to exist and be valid, even when it does not match your own. On to the answer: This talk is invalidating in so many ways. Let's take a look at a very common scene: an LDS person finally discloses to someone that they are gay (insert any other queer identity here). The person responds with, "Oh, you're not gay, you are a child of God." What gets communicated here is that being gay is in conflict with being a child of God. Does anyone say that same response when you disclose that you are a doctor? A Republican? A sports lover? No. Literally never. Why then, do people respond by denying the queer person's identity claim? Because it is seen as a evil thing; contrary to God. Something that needs to stay hidden or overridden. The talk that President Nelson gave did not start these responses-they were already there (I experienced this prior to this talk). The talk merely reinforces the false assumption that there are some identities that cannot coexist within a divine human soul. This attitude is hurtful, dismissive, and invalidating. I want to reiterate my love for you, Connor. I know this answer is likely opposite of what you might have expected or hoped for. I'm glad you asked about this because I also know that many people who have the best intentions try to help by re-emphasizing a precious identity (being a child of God). By asking this question you now know how to teach well-intentioned people that a queer person can and is both queer and a child of God. And that will make a truly positive impact.

Let me first start by saying, I have learned some things from your video and from your comment. I hope you can learn something from the things I share too! Collaboration, I’ve found, is one of the sweetest fruits of humanity. And for clarity, I think anyone who has responded in the fashion you expressed does not understand the gospel of Jesus and does not understand what president Nelson was teaching. So here’s my first thought, and please tell me if I’m way off on this 😅 I was a part of some groups a few years ago and had some friends who I followed that taught me something through dozens of experiences. I’m not super active on socials (context). And there were several experiences I had where my first experience with certain events was through one of these friends. Over time I realized that other people were giving me their lens to view things. I ended up noticing that when I would go and read something for myself, I often experienced something very different. But it taught me a very helpful tool. I learned to, for the sake of understanding, experience something for myself, but then also to be able to go back and apply their lens and look for what they experienced and it helped me see them and understand them better. So after reading your response, I went back and read President Nelson’s talk again and tried to see where some of your feelings and interpretations may have come from. And here are all of my thoughts. (This is already the longest RUclips comment I’ve ever written, so here’s just an anecdotal thing to make it even longer. I served my mission in Italy, and Italians are the most forward and blunt people ever and it was so different to me. You probably know this, but my family culture is kinda like Irish step dance your way around the truth if you think it will hurt someone’s feelings. Well after being in Italy for two years, I was in love with telling the truth and expressing myself boldly and unapologetically 😂. In summary, I’m not going to mince words) Thought #1: I have to say, I take President Nelson at his word. At the beginning of his talk he says, “My responsibility is to educate and prepare you also for your immortal experience.” I trust that this is the intent of his talk and that he is qualified and authorized to speak on such a subject. I would assume you do to, as you are a latter-day saint as well, but tell me if I’m off. #2: my reading of President Nelson’s talk is not one of removing labels, in fact he never says to remove any labels, but instead it is a talk about prioritizing certain labels. “But if any label replaces your most important identifiers, the results can be spiritually suffocating.” “Tonight I plead with you not to replace these three paramount and unchanging identifiers with any others, because doing so could stymie your progress or pigeonhole you in a stereotype that could potentially thwart your eternal progression.” Again, I don’t hear him saying, get rid of other labels, but rather be careful that these three labels stay at the top of the list. In this framework, I feel president Nelson teaching me some VERY important things for my life and my thinking. I know I’ve had to take some inventory and see where I stood on this front. Aaaaaannddd… let’s just say it’s a work in progress. For me, I feel like I let different labels and things get in the way of those three for sure. I’ve never asked anyone else this, but out of a real interest and curiosity (and recognizing you don’t speak for everyone) where would you say your sexual orientation identity lands on your list? Is it #1? Top 5? Top 10? Top 20? How important is that identity to you? #3: I specifically see president Nelson denouncing the attitudes and responses you mentioned. “Any abuse or prejudice towards another because of nationality, race, sexual orientation, gender, educational degrees, culture, or other significant identifiers is offensive to our Maker. Such mistreatment causes us to live beneath our stature as His covenant sons and daughters. There are various labels that may be very important to you, of course. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not saying that other designations and identifiers are not significant. I am simply saying that no identifier should displace, Replace, or take priority over these three enduring designations: child of God, child of the covenant, and disciple of Jesus Christ.” Sorry that was a long one, but man that’s good stuff. President Nelson just said when people have acted in prejudice towards you because of your identifier, they have offended God and lived beneath their stature. That’s pretty clear language against what you described. So I’d reiterate, people who have acted that way, have misunderstood Christ and His servants. #4: in correlation with my belief that President Nelson is sincere and is trying to teach us about eternal life. “Any identifier that is not compatible with these three basic designations will ultimately let you down. Other labels will disappoint you in time because they do not have the power to lead you toward eternal life in the celestial kingdom of God.” Now, you mentioned that people have expressed to you and others things that feel like explicitly saying that your identifier is not compatible with these three, so I get how one could read that and feel that way. But I would argue that president Nelson is simply teaching a fundamental truth of identity. Certain identity’s will fail us. I’ve seen identities I’ve held that have already failed me, athlete for example. Your whole channel is about not being defined by something going on in your life, I would suggest because you recognize that buying into that identity would do you more harm than good. You have literally done what president Nelson said to do, prioritize the identities that will spur you on, help you keep your vision of eternity, give you hope, and much more good. 😮‍💨 hopefully you like reading novels. 😂 I just really enjoy thinking with people and talking about ideas and comparing thought. This is admittedly probably not the best place to do this 😅. I hope my tone and love comes off right in text form. I would love to interview you, talk in person, or just continue to write extremely long comments if that works too 🤣.
