Experiences For Christmas
I don't know about you but it's getting harder and harder for me to either find something to get my children for Christmas or justify buying something for my kiddos for Christmas. After much deliberation my husband and I decided to create memories instead. This is a short list of ideas we threw together.

    Hi, my parents signed me up for Abeka grade 8 and I have ADHD. I am looking for some advice to help make this a lot easier. The first 3 days of Abeka were fine and everything felt great I thought this was going to be the easiest thing ever. well come day 7 (today) I am having motivation issues because I know I have 4 hours of sitting in a chair doing nothing but listening to a teacher ramble on about stuff I'm not interested in for 4 hours. Now I've tried taking breaks but even when I take breaks it'll take forever for example every day, I start at about 8 or 9 in the morning and finish at 5 or 6 at night. This is pure torture, and your help would mean everything thank you.

      First of all, thank you for sharing with me. I know it's not always easy to ask for help. My kids ended up quiting Abeka by 25 days in. But looking back, if I were to do it all over again differently I would find things in the classes that would help me focus back in. In other words, while I was listening in to the kids' stuff I would point out the interesting facts I heard. Also, I think instead of just listening to the instructors ramble on I would write down key words or phrases that stand out to me, that way when I zone out I can check myself and go back to see what I may have missed. Does that make sense? Also, what else, besides breaks have you tried?

    I’m just starting this diet for my six year old. I thought can sugar was ok. Should I eliminate that too?(do honey? ) Also how’s it going are you still doing feingold?

    • @consiouslyparentingwhereyo7618
      @consiouslyparentingwhereyo7618 3 года назад

      I would. I use honey, monkfruit sweetener, or erythrytol. Cane sugar is just one step below table sugar, so using these other alternatives help you get down to the basics with sugar. In other words the more pure the better it is. Wr are still doing Feingold, it's hard sometimes but I love it! It helps so much with the boys' attitude and drive.

    I've been looking for videos on people's experiences with the Feingold diet and found your perspective interesting since you are a parent of five. I'm not sure if you know this, but your videos seem to hover around the 10-13th search results when I typed in "feingold" so I'm surprised there's not more views. As someone in their late 20s with ADHD I didn't find much success in the diet myself when it came to helping the actual symptoms regarding cognitive performance, mostly because sources I find that explain the diet seem to focus too much about what to cut out compared to what to put in. It was also created in a time period where it was thought that the only symptoms of ADHD were what was described in the name, and nowadays doctors and therapists I've talked to actually disagree with the name "ADHD" because it gives the wrong impression on what the disorder actually is. (In other words, what the brain is actually doing in order to cause the behavioral patterns) While I do believe that cutting out additive sugars and other things that the diet suggests are all-around beneficial to health, I think that fact alone tends to distract people from what should actually be measured. If there was something that I did try that helped my brain function, it was supplementing fish and krill oil and eating more natural sources of unprocessed meat in order to acquire the meat-based protein. The natural fats in those sources have done wonders for my overall cognition as well, so I wish the feingold diet was updated to mention such a thing. All in all, while I'm far from being a small child anymore I'm grateful to find people like yourself who can give their thoughts on testing out managerial strategies like the Feingold diet, so I thought I'd do you a kindness and give back some of my insights as well :D. I certainly don't agree with putting small children on pills either. There's a large community of ADHDers online on forums like reddit(dot)com/r/adhd who love to discuss things like these, as well as great youtube channels like How To ADHD if you haven't found those sources. It's a lifelong struggle with this disorder especially when this condition is so broadly misunderstood by the general public, so I think it's best to work with others in order to clear up misconceptions and spread the word of healthy habits. Cheers, and good luck!
