I have heard many, MANY current renditions of Rach piano concerto no.2, this is definitely one of the top ones. Much better in tonality, freshness and expressiveness than lots of pianists who have more publicity. I hope Mr. Sorita get more recognition that he totally deserves.

This concerto was dedicated to Maxim Shostakovich, Dmitri's son.

Yannick has been chosen to conduct the 2026 New Year concert in Vienna. I did not know of him when I read that. Glad I got the opportunity to see his work.

A great piece. I think the piano needed turning up a bit. As a kid, my dad had this on a record with Andre Previn. I can't remember but I thought it was him playing (ie not conducting), but I may be wrong. I'm 70 now! Edit: Ah, did some googling. Andre Previn was playing the piano for No 1 but Leonard Bernstein played No 2.

Oh, yes! Absolutely beautiful concerto!!! Absolutely fantastic, subtle performance that matches the love that went into composing this for his son! I am sooo lucky that in the late 50's I was sitting in a music history class at San Francisco State College taught by Wendall Otey and in walks Dimitri Shostakovich and sits in a seat in back of me, but to the right so I could see him. This was the year after Stalin died and he was allowed to travel to music colleges and symphony orchestras. I will never forget the day I saw a "genius" in a woolen suit and glasses sitting next to me, looking so inauspicious! Sadly, he soon got up and left, having other music classes to observe, and I will never be the same!

I'm surprised. New York, Winter 2021, the peak of the pandemic and hardly anyone is wearing a mask. Yes vaccine was out but that Winter, maybe because of a sense of safety, people relaxed and Covid came roaring back.

It’s interesting to hear the opening played the way I had always envisioned it. If you listen to Shostakovich play it, or most other Russians, they play it detached if not full on staccato. He doesn’t mark much in the score regarding articulation. I guess that leaves us free to do what we want?😂

There was no room to comment on your Tchaikovsky 2nd ,so I will do so here. It was Brilliant and beautiful in every way ! It was definitive❤ . The best ever . I treasure this performance and will watch it often !

A wonderful Rach 2 . I regret there was not a large audience to give you the standing ovation you deserved . I stood and gave you one in my living room .

Fantastic rendition. I like the way you can hear all the inner parts. Rachmaninov was such an amazing transcriber.

Фанатею по этому концерту уже больше полугода. Его можно переслушивать многие разы подряд и восхищаться! Юджа прекрасно его исполнила, с соответствующими столь красивому произведен эмоциями!
