This album was an absolute masterpiece, although not on the album, this song resonates the emotion of the How Big How Blue How beautiful era. The Odyssey was a beautiful piece of art and is my favourite album so far.
I honestly can't understand how someone who's got a song like this could ever even imagine not including it on the official tracklist. Together with "Pure Feeling", the two bad moves I'd say Florence did.
Like Wish That You Were Here that appeared randomly this year this did &,never with any adverts, just that bass intro.Mesmeric.You find with a lot with incredible vocalists that some of their less known songs are their best.Oasis? Aretha Franklin? Frank Zappa?
In the celestial vaults I drew bedraggled breaths Because I am unloved I went as far as I could get In the cedars like sparks Wasting my goddamn time Past the museum of death And the mad man yelling answers I sail on new beginnings And psychics taking chances In the cedars like sparks Wasting my goddamn time As far as I could get I went as far as I could get In the cedars like sparks Wasting my goddamn time Past the spires and the temple Looking like a Disney castle As far as I could get Past the girls late for rehearsal Oh, a pirate on the left And Jesus on the right And the Pacific sweeps through Like a bird in flight 'Cause if I am unloved, I have unloved too 'Cause if I am unloved, I have unloved too As far as I could get I went as far as I could get I went as far as I could get I went as far as I could get Past the city and the cement The cemetery standing still Past the mountain and the monument The houses and the hills Past the signs and the sirens The sinners and the saints I went as far as I could get... Past the hallowed and the horror The humbled and agreed I went as far as I could get 'Cause if I am unloved, I have unloved too As far as I could get As far as I could get As far as I could get And I'm not far enough yet I went as far as I could get I went as far as I could get
What’s remarkable about Florence + the Machine is that they have an amazing ability to make you feel emotion unlike any other. Humans have this impossible task of needing to explain how they feel to avoid isolation and someone actually understanding you. Yet, in her voice, in the music, in all of it, you FEEL it. You KNOW it.
This song for me is all about pursuing idealized, romantic love, wandering between religious, morally accepted behavior, and erratic, hedonist path, never accomplishing real satisfaction, sold as "the happily ever after", or even that love worth dying for. And I think this pursue of romantic love, switching up from heaven to hell, is in all of Florence +TM songs.
No wrong answers here! But to me it sounds like she’s describing her career: if I am unloved, I have unloved too: if you have unloved her/dislike her and her music, then she unloves you too. The feeling is mutual. As far as I could get, wasting my goddamn time: putting effort into things where she was betrayed/it went nowhere. Obvious frustration As far as I could get, I’m not far enough yet: shows her determination and unwavering ambition Past the spirals and temple…: these are all metaphors or poetic descriptions for events and moments in her life. Some might even be references to previous songs she’s made. Romantic love could even be referenced here Ultimately this is what song is about to me in a realistic sense. But ultimately, the realistic reality is boring and I instead made it the the theme song of a character I love who also experiences much unfair frustration and limitless ambition in their life
Her emotions on this one is so different from her others. She sounds mad abd determined. I love it. Great to listen to while walking late at night while its 70 degrees, a nice breeze and a flowy shirt.
For the many years of my life listening to my queen Florence, I think As Far As I Can Get may be my second favorite song she's ever created. (And I've listened to every single song she has sang, even her live and concert versions so this was a toughy)

That part at 2:57 just calms the soul.
Freaking Love the vocals
This song reminds me classic rock songs...
Imagine how good you've got to be if that's your B-side!
This song represents my depression so well

Yes. I think the music is about romantic love and about her path as a person. For me personally, it's more about the second one.
I come back here so many times. An endless favorite

Such a dramatic walk, I might've actually done that last night, but in a tight shirt😂😌👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Cedars like sparks...? Can't figure that out! Thanks fellow Flo lovers! 🧡
I hear "cedars like spires", makes more sense to me.
I only discovered this song today in the middle of the covid pandemic
me too
Turns out it wasn't the middle.

The drum is inspired by Ravel's Bolero ✨

Which one is your fave?
Which one is your favorite???
two years and we still have no idea what the favorite song is
This is a b-side to What Kind Of Man on the limited edition vinyl.
Epic vibe. Somehow grounded in the now while also sailing in ancient Greece past the Oracle of Delphi.
Hey 2020... this is my first time here...
