What gelcoat product should I use as a gelcoat replacement when laminating in mold with a epoxy resin when laminating the part.
Hello and thank you for your comment. We have a several products that can be used in-mold with an epoxy laminating system. To better assist you, please reach out to our team at help@hawkeyeind.com and our Technical Sales Team can discuss your process and best selection with you. You are also welcome to visit our website at: www.hawkeyeind.com to review process brochures, Technical Data Sheets, and more!
To cut through the bull shit, get a 2 quart pot and a Binks 2001 with a 2,8 tip. Spray that shit thick and sand it down, one and done is the only way.
I am an engineer at a small aircraft company and we are bringing the mold making in house. We just started a polyurethane foam CNC machined tail form for which our suppliers recommend using 707-007 coats with last coat with a high gloss additive. I am not sure that was the best way to go. We covered the foam first with a layer of woven cloth and sprayed 707-007 on it and built it up, sanded it and then did the last coat with 75/25 mix of clear high gloss to get the final form/plug. Sound like may be we should have started straight with 707-019
Hi Abid! The 707-019 Duratec Styroshield Primer can be used on polyurethane foam as well, but was designed for use with polystyrene (EPS) foam. As you were using polyurethane foam, the 707-007 Duratec Sanding Primer is a suitable choice. Either option would work, but if you ever use EPS foam you'll want to stick with 707-019 Styroshield. Feel free to email our team for any additional information or support: info@hawkeyeind.com Wishing you success with your project!
Please provide the information for the spray gun you DO recommend. Brand. Model. Etc. It will be very helpful so that we can go out and get one similar. Thanks. May want to put it in the Description on the video. Link to where to buy?
Thanks for the feedback Read_Old_Books! As we work with small shops, large production facilities, and DIYers, the right spray gun will be slightly different for each budget/experience. Which is good news - many options out there will accomplish the task at hand, from the 3M AccuSpray to options found at Harbor Freight or via Amazon. We'll look at adding a tip to the video noting this! So while we do not note a specific HVLP gun, we do emphasize procuring the right tip size for product in use, and that air pressure be adjusted correctly to get the best performance from material. Those details can be found on each product's Technical Data Sheet. Hope this helps!
@@HawkeyeInd It does help. Understanding that you don't want to be in the position of selling someone else's gun, the clarity and some specific suggestions in each "range" would be helpful. RUclips is full of reviews and it would be fair to say that people who are DIY'ers could benefit more from the review than a shop. We don't know the "landscape", the brands, the reputations, or the costs. This is an ideal platform to help us get started without the need to become experts. At $150/gal and a very intricate part, I don't get two tries. Nor can it cost me $4k to get it sprayed. Presumably, a shop only needs to know about the tip size. Being in the business, they probably have their own experience and opinions already. I found a Neiko. It's probably overkill. But it will allow the adjustments and pressures and nozzles you recommended. More than Harbor Freight, far less than some of the other options. We shall see.
@@HawkeyeInd Also. Consider mentioning "auxiliary" things like in-line oil/water traps, etc.
Pitiful and pathetic performance.... but the product is excellent.
Thank you for the feedback!
why isn't the guy spraying wearing a respirator?
Can I use a normal polyester pigment to colour a guide coat?
Hi Jonathan - thank you for the question! Polyester pigments can be added to create a guide coat, but may affect gel or cure time. Reach out to our team at help@hawkeyeind.com for more specific information. Hope this helps!
@@HawkeyeInd Wow forgotten I had written. I wonder what I wanted it for.
I work for a parent business associated with a well known power catamaran vessel production company as a composite pattern/plug and mold finisher in the CNC dept producing various marine molds, ive come to absolutely love all these products and the ease of applications as well the durability and resilience associated with Hawkeyes duratech... Its a pleasure
Donald - we cannot express how valuable your feedback, and support, mean to us! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
did you also add catalyst to the gel past or was it applied without catalyst
Hi Nicholas - thanks for your comment! Yes, we catalyzed the gel coat paste in order to allow it to cure. Catalyze as per the gel coat instructions. We have customers who catalyze first, and then add filler, and some who add filler first, then catalyze. Our recommendation is to catalyze first, and then add the Cabosil (filler) to the right consistency. If you have additional questions, please leave them here or give our office at call at (909) 546-1160. Thanks, The Hawkeye Industries Team
You look like Dexter Morgan lol especially with that plastic background
Not intentional but that makes us smile! Too bad we didn't do a little cross-promotion with Dexter! Thanks for your comment Paulina! The Hawkeye Team
Man. You are a messy painter. I don't think I've ever had paint on the outside of my cup!!! Also there are times when you are not wearing gloves... that's bad. Also, the amount of waste you are spraying... doesn't look like you're paying for it! and that orange peel... I spray duratec it's smooth as glass.
Smooth as glass - exactly what we hope our customers experience! Thanks for your feedback Robert! The Hawkeye Team
Wow, you must be perfect at everything. Your need to comment negativity is quite sad.
@@MRScrubNasty Not perfect...but Im a painter his gun is a disgrace. It's called pride.
His gun is shit because he spent all his money on duratech high gloss additive. So expensive. 150 for gallon, mixed 1 to 1 and thats at wholesale price. I have a decent gun now but thinking of upgrading to a 3m accuspray with pressure cups. The pps system is great but I want disposable atomizer and less cleanup! Ever used s accuspray? The one with the little hose that vaccum packs psint liner. Seems like ok gun for gel even though max is 2mm.
@@MRScrubNasty you must be one of those millions SCHEISS MEISTERS never able to perform quality job blaming the weather... high quality craftsmanship is unique, but all is lousy job security performance.

Hi Fiberglass Supply Depot! We are glad you're an option for customers looking for Aqua Buff. Thank you for your support! We are fortunate to have a fantastic collection of distribution partners where customers can find Aqua Buff. www.duratec1.com/distributors (SB)
I’ve sprayed a guitar with duratec sunshield and water sanded with 1000. I can not buff it. I’ve tried aquabuff 1000 with a wool pad and it leaves the guitar buffed by swirly. Then I used a wool pad with aquabuff 2000 and it’s still swirly. Do I need to use a foam pad with aquabuff 2000? Thanks!

Hi, my friend, what product would you recommend to make a wood mold that already has topocoat? What product can I make so that it can look good? Or having the topocoat there is no longer necessary to give him anything?
Gianni - I believe we reached out directly to you, but if you have any additional questions please contact our team: hawkeyesales@hawkeyeind.com Thanks - The Hawkeye Team
Hi, my friend, I have a question when you have a wood mold and you already have a topcoat to the matrix. Top of the topcoat one you can make duratec or no longer needed ??

Great info! Do these techniques and specifications apply to the use of the 904-061 sunshield clear topcoat as well? Are there other thinners that can be used?
Hi DMT190 - I'm so sorry we did not see this comment sooner. Yes, the techniques can be applied to the 904-061 although each application might be a little different. On our website there are use instructions for the 904-061: www.duratec1.com/pdf/904-061%20FLYER%20WEB.pdf As for thinning, we suggest the Duratec Thinner as it was formulated to work with our products. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is second if no Duratec Thinner is available. Contact our office at (909) 546-1160 if you need further assistance. Shelly @ Hawkeye Industries
Thanks very Shelly! I will give it a try. So far I am loving the high gloss of the sunshield!
