Electronic Differential Locker Test
How does a locker help offroad? What does a locker do? I answer those questions in today’s video. We take the Tracker out for its first run after installing a new electronic locking differential.

So I went and picked up another project I didn't need. Let's see what's wrong with it.
Geo Tracker Locker Install
Просмотров 154Месяц назад
This time on the channel we install the long awaited Electronic Locker in the tracker. I have been waiting for a lot of years to get one of these, and I was finally able to get one. The locker is a TRE E-locker. It is not a sponsored product.
Toyota Test Drive
Просмотров 191Месяц назад
For the first time in 25 years, we took the Toyota out for a drive. This has been a huge project, but it was a lot of fun and one of the most rewarding things I have done in a long time. We ended up running into @OutdoorAuto on the trail. They talked me into doing an awesome climb in my tracker. It was a good day.
The Toyota update you’ve all been waiting for.

Finally an update on the Toyota Pickup project. My brother has come over to spend a couple of weekends and we have made mountains of progress on this. Check out the video to see what we have gotten done.
Can a Geo Tracker Rock Crawl?
Просмотров 2692 месяца назад
It was beyond time to get out of the garage and go on an adventure. I recently downloaded a mapping app and wanted to try a new trail. I saw a Facebook post about this trail and decided I wanted to try it. It did not disappoint. I took the tracker up some obstacles that I didn’t think were possible. It was a great time and I was just happy to get out on an adventure again.
22RE Swap Wiring And All The Details
Просмотров 3902 месяца назад
Everything you need to know to do a 22 RE swap in basically anything. We swapped a 22RE into a 1980 pickup. When doing so, we kept the wiring harnesses separate, so the engine is on it's own stand-alone wiring. The body/chassis is on separate wiring. In this video I go through what it takes to do that swap. I don't go through every wire and every wire color in detail, but I explain generally wh...
Do Sand Blaster Pressure Washers work?

Not a sponsored video. Do sand blaster attachments for a pressure washer really work? Let’s find out by cleaning up an old Toyota pickup frame. I finally caved and bought one, because why not? Let's see if it works.

what type of tires are those? I like the look
@@elijahjackson3924 accelera MT-01’s. Cheap and they work awesome. I’ve been running them for 3 years now and I have zero complaints. I typically run them at 8-10 psi in the dirt and 20 on the highway. I have zero complaints.
Very good job
Did you change spark plugs? Which plugs did you use? The ones that came with the 2.0? Or did you put the 2.5 plugs in the 2.0?
You know what? I bought the Haynes service and repair manual.... I've spent SO many hours reading random forums and getting nowhere! Watch this 20 min video... Wow! That's so easy! I can do that! Awesome video! Really helped me out a lot! 👍
@@thebristlyboss I’m glad I am able to help.
Yeah I love my TRE E lockers, they are a game changer
As you were going around the vehicle just before driving up the obstacle I noticed the front tires weren’t as tucked as the rear. I’ve been wheelin’ a long time and I think that you would benefit greatly from disconnecting the front sway bar. Try that obstacle again without engaging the locker but with the front sway bar disconnected. I’d be willing to bet you’d make it up. But I like the concept of the e-locker as it works the same as air or mechanically actuated lockers but seem less complicated. I put a LockRight lunchbox locker in the front of my TJ and it’s sometimes difficult to find a spot to get stuck - except when there’s mud. Not a fan of mud. Look into the Oregon Creek and Trail run. It happens every Fathers Day weekend and it starts in O’Brien Oregon, takes a couple days, great if you have kids, and your little rig would do great out there! There’s a small fee and it can fill up pretty quick but it’s something I try to do every year, even though I’ve missed a few years now. But I’m still hoping to go next year!
@@jakematthews6982 yes, the sway bar is still connected. I do a fair bit of road driving and wanted to keep it connected for better handling around corners. I do have it set up so it’s simple to disconnect when/if I want to, but haven’t played with disconnecting it yet.
Rear locker is definitely on my list of upgrades. But I’m probably going with a lunchbox. I’ve owned one before in a Jeep wrangler and had no problems with it. But on a side note. Are you attending the fall classic in Prineville?
@@offgridliving4128 I considered the lunchbox, but I really like the E Locker. Unfortunately I’m not going to make the fall classic this year. I have work :(
Depending on your vehicle a lunchbox locker will be best utilized in the front because of how they operate. Selectable lockers like the one in the video shine in rear axles because when they’re unlocked they operate like a normal open differential and don’t bind. A lunchbox locker is locked any time the diff receives torque from the drive shaft. So if it’s in the rear then it’ll lock any time you’re on the throttle (on a rear wheel drive vehicle) no matter what the terrain you’re in. That can cause binding and potentially broken parts from just driving in a parking lot. Putting it in front means it’ll only lock up in 4wd. 2wd driving in town will be completely unaffected.
Great trade. I like the door panels on the LSI interior way better and swap them into my keeper trackers when ever I can.
It reminds me of a clown car with the geometric design on the exterior. 🤡
What companies locker did you buy?

Harold, I appreciate your effort and believe me I know how important A/C is. I live in lake Havasu City Arizona… it’s blistering during the summer, quite literally…. And I respect your builds. I have a problem with my 1985 Geo tracker.. it has the 16v engine and it was running perfectly fine until I replaced the PCV valve hose cause the one that was on it was the original and I could see that it was leakin oil on the valve cover.. I also made a gasket out of a Cereal box that I put a thin film of ultra black on both sides and let cure before I reassembled to fit the distributor housing where it mounts to the head, I know it has an o-ring for that and I replaced that with a new one to find out 2 weeks later that it was still leaking… I also replace the PCV valve and grommet prior and it worked fine before this.. I keep playin with the timing and thus far I can’t find the right tooth to set it.. I know when my engine is at TDC on #1 and I’ve even tried it 180 out just to rule that out, I’am reaching out to you cause if anybody would know, I would think that you may.. text me if you know what my issue is.. could the thinness of the paper and the sealant actually though my timing into a tantrum??
@@RichardReese-og1bj Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. Troubleshooting and timing these is always fun. I’d start by putting it back to the way the factory had it. Remove the gasket and put in a new O ring. Make sure the surfaces are clean. You might have a bad PCV valve. Either put the old one back in or get another one. New parts fail sometimes. Also, make sure you don’t have any vacuum leaks and make sure all of the vacuum hoses are connected properly. There should be a vacuum routing diagram on the underside of the hood. Also, check any electrical connections that you may have unplugged. The best place to start when troubleshooting is restoration. Put things back to the way the factory had it or back to the way it was before you had the problem. As far as the timing goes, it would probably be best for me to refer you to Tony over at hwy83suzuki. He has a really good video on setting the timing on a 16 valve. If that doesn’t get you where you need to be, then let me know and I can send you more info. Good luck!!
Bang for buck, lunch box locker wins. Already a "noisy" old convertible. Did you state the $ of electronic and I missed it?
True on the lunchbox. I ended up trading some parts for the locker, so I don’t have an exact price, but they are around $1K depending on where and when you get them.
Nice job! You’ll have to show us how well it works.
Good advice to keep a project advancing.
1967 ford custom 500 ! Thanks for the tips 🙌🏼
Right on!
Well, it’s not in the garage at the moment, but I have an 86 Chevy truck that needs some love. 👩🏻🔧
Hello harold, do you have the wiring diagram for that motor? tnx
Not one that is easily shared. I bought a Haynes manual and went from there. It worked.
Nice cars
It’s wonderful you got to do this with your brother. ❤
I found a Toyota just like this
helpful vid thanks
Best small pickup by far
Great Job Man! Can't wait to 22re swap my 83 pickup. These trucks are a blast and so dang durable. I'm fixing to do the IFS front calipers on and rebuild the front axle! I bet your idle problem is probably sensor related. But I'm sure you're already tracking it down!
Indeed, pretty awesome!
Let us know when you can cross “find sanity” off your list. 😂
Very cool
I have a 92 with AC already but no power steering. Thank you for the video, hoping to tackle this soon, the manual steering is ROUGH 🤣
great vid, nice tracker. i have an identical one. if i could suggest one upgrade, it would be a rear locker. relatively cheap, and only 4 or 5 hours to install the first time. unbelievable traction difference.
@@fred-mf8md I have a TRE E-Locker sitting on the shelf in the garage… I just have to make time to install it.
Did you repin the connections to the cluster?
Not yet. We are still working on the cluster. The plan is to run as much of it off the stock harness as possible. I left the wires in the new harness for the dash if we need them.
@@haroldshobbies oh so you left the original harness harness in the truck? On the video I saw the round plugs on the harness had me thinking. I’m pretty much doing the same swap but my doner is a 86 4Runner and I removed the complete 1980 harness and put the 4Runner harness in but now fun part begins I have no clue how I’m going to use the original cluster and the air controls I was even thinking of swapping the complete dash and steering column but it’s a lot of work.
@@albert8090 I kept the original harness in the truck. The new harness runs the engine only. The original harness runs the lights, wipers, hvac, etc.
@@haroldshobbies maybe the4Runner harness is different the connections for the coil and the maf censor are on the body harness not on the engine harness on the 4Runner so I had to run the complete harness from the the 4Runner I see that you’re running the fuse box also so how did you splice into that?
@@albert8090 yes, the body harness runs several things. You will end up running the original truck body harness and the donor truck body harness. I only tied the two together at the ignition switch
"That's what I'm talk'n bout" that was really good Harold, Definately Fun. You touched on something, " a jeep or something with 37" tires...this would be nothing, but doing it in a Geo Tracker can really get the heart pounding"...fun, fun, fun Maybe It's just more fun in a Geo Tracker
Awesome. Good job, and I agree with your decision making on when and when not to. Thanks for sharing.
It’s the little Tracker that could! 🚙
Wish I could find a simi clean tin top with an automatic and A/C.
Stay tuned 😉
Love mine. Did you make the bumpers? BTW, lock hubs, keep in 2WD. Unless tires spin, 4WD usually not needed since it's so light
Yes, I did make the bumpers. I also sell sheet metal kits if you’d like to build one. I have videos showing the process.
Yes it can!
Great looking tracker man!
Thanks!
You just keep getting better. This is one of your best!
Hello Richard! 👋😁
Say hi to Richard for me. hellooo from Taiwan.
Love these simple tip videos
I've used mine a good bit. Works pretty well with my 5,000psi pressure washer. I've run just about every type of abrasive. Ran a bunch of garnet dust through it on some tough mill scale for a large flat plate BBQ griddle. Definitely worth the low price tag. EDIT: Get a rotating "Turbo" nozzle for your pressure washer ($20 Amazon). Takes dirty crusted grease off like 5x faster than standard nozzle!
I used one to sand blast a large tree digging machine and it worked great. Well other then wearing out the nozzle quite quick. Get yourself a bag of real sand blasting sand. There is a big difference between multipurpose sand/play sand and a bag of Brand name Green Diamond. Green Diamond is what I was using. Do not use quartz! That’s what killed the nozzle.
can i start the vehicle without install the differential to see if there are no oil leaks?
@@dar6497 yeah of course. Don’t try and drive it. Make sure the front driveline is removed and the transmission is in neutral and you will be fine.
We were all having lots of boy fun until 12:03! Thanks buddy for the video! Where can you get parts to overhaul an ac pump?
My little helper is the best. I got my parts from the new compressor that had the cracked case. There were a few websites that had rebuild kits, but you have to be careful and make sure you get the right one.
@@haroldshobbiesthank you harold! Get a sign that says boys only in your garage!
My car is... Not stripped down like that, and the pump is not accessible without lowering the wholegas tank 😂 While not exactly efficient like yours, i did find a way - i unhooked the fuel line to my fuel rail, clamped an extension line to the fuel line, and kept turning the key to prime, with another car hooked up with jumper cables for contineous power - many squirts later, i achieved my goal of removing bad gas from tge tank
Great idea!
Just use a air compressor
It's probably too late but why is the door closed Rip Harold
lol funnily enough, that gas didn’t stink. I don’t know how old it was…
I feel like "3d printed adapter", me, and gasoline would mix terribly
Thank you!
