Replacing/Upgrading a Lithium Battery for Sileno Minimo Robot Mower

In this video, I document my process of replacing the 18VDC rechargeable lithium battery on our Gardena Sileno Minimo robot lawn mower. It had gotten stuck while I was ill in bed for a while so the mower slowly drained its charge to a point of no return. Fortunately, the aftermarket replacement battery from Amazon was much more affordable, shipped quickly, and holds a much longer charge (3.4 Ah...

In this video, I talk about a few tips that were helpful for me to replace a slightly worn passenger-side motor mount of a 2013 F30 BMW 328i with the N26/N20 motor. I mention using a scissor jack to slightly lift the engine off of the passenger motor mount. I borrowed this scissor jack from another vehicle (2012 Nissan Quest). I also used a piece of 2x4 between the jack and engine block. Loctit...

    Thanks for the video! Have you choose the battery based on original part number? If I look for mine, it only finds... original replacement.

    Hoorah! Right at the end of the video - how to remove the top cover. Two flat screwdrivers. I had tried for ages to figure that out. MANY THANKS.

    This video was very helpful, thank you. Taking off the top cover is unnecessary. Just pull the bottom cover. If you have a cordless drill or impact driver, pulling the torx head bolts is fast. I used 3M 30lb double sided tape to mount the battery. Worked perfectly.

    Wow, "Gardena Sileno" is an impressive video! As someone who has been searching for lawnmowers without perimeter wires, I can't express how thrilled I am to see the Segway Navimow robotic lawnmower. It offers such convenience and efficiency compared to other brands. I highly recommend others to give it a try for its advanced features and hassle-free mowing experience.

      I too would definitely go with a mower that doesn’t require perimeter wires next time

    Warning! I have mower with the same battery (McCulloch ROB S600), which I opened to replace battery cells. It has a BMS (Battery Management System), protecting from over current / over voltage and balancing the cells to prevent failure (which in case of LiPo can be really ugly). I don't see any electronics in the unit you purchased, and therefore would not recommend using it. pasteboard.co/qI0wmd9r8RQb.jpg

      Yes, it works even better than when it was new. It cuts for probably double the time between charges now.

      @@johnnypolex The black box with the battery can be opened by throwing it into the ground (I'm not joking). I has plastic clasps all around, so a strong shock IS the only way to open it. However inside the black box there is also a circuit, I have no idea what the circuit does, but you no longer have it in your Sileno now. Here you could theoretically replace the individual batteries, but.... THEY ARE SOLDERED. They really want you to pay 400$ battery pack for a mower I bought for 350$. "You will have nothing and be happy" kinda thing.

      @@NicoloZanetti Haha, interesting. That’s good to know. We sold the house and left the still working mower with it. Maybe the board helps balance the Lipo cells?

    If I'm only adjusting water temp do I still need to cut off water supply first?

    • @johnnypolex
      @johnnypolex Год назад

      Not at all. It’s very easy to do and you would not need the large channel-lock pliers. Simply play with a few different positions/angles then pop the knob back on (without the screw even). Test the water temperature by trial and error. I’m usually able to finish the entire adjustment from start to finish within 3-5mins.

    • @johnnypolex
      @johnnypolex Год назад

      Some models may require an allen key to remove the knob/handle. Usually a Standard/inches if the model was designed in USA like Delta. You’ll wonder why you didn’t adjust it sooner. But you can just tell your friends you were just too busy to mess with it till now.

    The screw in mine is stuck it only turns counterclockwise about 3/4 of its length but not completely comes out. The handle is also stuck and can’t pull it off.

    • @johnnypolex
      @johnnypolex Год назад

      Hi Fernando. There may be some hard water (calcium, magnesium, etc) build-up on the screw threads. I would recommend to unscrew it most of the way out, then spray WD40 or PB Blaster on the threads. Then try turning the screw out then back in over and over. This should lubricate the threads and then allow the screw threads to slowly clear the build-up. If the screw is mostly out then you can also lightly clamp a locking plier on the end to make it easier to turn. After removing the screw, inspect the threads for any damage and consider cleaning the threads with a steel brush or replacing it at Home Depot. If there is heavy white build-up then consider using CLR, a concentrated Vinegar from Home Depot, or phosphoric acid to dissolve the white build-up. Phosphoric acid is the main ingredient in any water softener cleaner bottle ~$13 from Home Depot. Be sure to wear gloves with these strong chemicals and turn on the exhaust fan if you do.
