*Turn Down Volume* NS 4849 leads M77 in Union, SC!
I heard about this train this morning. This is similar to the 105
I caught last year. It would stop in Spartanburg for a crew change. It stayed stopped in Spartanburg for so long, I thought I wouldn't be able to see it. When it finally departed Spartanburg, I knew it would arrive at a time that I knew it would reach Union after 3. That's the time when I usually head home, but I took the risk of staying longer to get this train. I've officially caught all the class I power for the US and Canada!
Originated in Chattanooga, TN and heading to Columbia, SC for termination.

16 buckets. No horn show today, as he was likely concentrating. They were going slower than usual. Other than that, it was still a good way to start the new year. Not only did I see him, but the train had a Dash 9 duo, which is SUPER rare with the rebuild program doing on.

34 buckets. NS 1031 SD70ACe NS 8064 ES44AC I was actually supposed to only get 18D today, due to 243 being late, and would meet 18D in Carlisle. Apparently, last minute changes with the meet-up occurred, causing the trains to meet in Pacolet instead. In a way, I'm glad 243 came first, since an ACe was leading.

NS 4565 AC44C6M A massive thanks to a railfanner in Columbia for the heads-up of the 057. The moment that it was said it would go on the W-Line, I hoped up, and left the house! I'm so glad I was able to get this train! Not only was it different from the usual trains I get, but I haven't gotten another westbounder besides 243 in a long time! Definitely a nice change!

No. The update I have on it was it being on the W-Line at around 8:40. So, they should've been in Columbia at around 9:30.

It sure is. It's quite a unique one too. There's another crossing near this one which activates at the same time on the same intersection. The traffic light behind me shows a flashing red in all directions when the crossings activate.

Regarding the longer run time between Spartanburg and Union on this day, it can also be due to them not having a far enough track authority as well. They’ve got track people out and about when 18D runs quite often, so that’ll slow them up on some days. As for the implementation of auto controls on these C6Ms, I’m certain the technology comes from Wabtec as well. Upper management just enforces it so they can save money on fuel for their pockets and the shareholders’ pockets. They don’t care about delaying customers’ shipments. Very seldom do I ever see track speed trains even along the mainline in the upstate nowadays. It’s gotten quite boring, so I stick to catching 296 mainly with that GEVO pair. Even the domestic hotshot intermodals are forced to run with auto controls! I’ve been considering going for CSX more as well.
I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future. In that case, I do believe the ES44DCs are in fact a bit more decent. 45 minutes when I begin hearing the horn isn't track speed, but that's better than the C6Ms. I can imagine there wasn't a full TA from Spartanburg to Union when 242 came by as well with the ES44DC leader. It's such a shame that even the high priority trains can't really be high priority, but are rather just titles. I'm quite surprised there haven't been any complaints from customers with the slower service, considering that even the local power is sometimes C6Ms too.
