The Katie Reider Band - "Mr. Mystery" - live at The Bitter End, NYC - April 2006
In April of 2006, the Katie Reider Band made its second trip to NYC, to perform at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village, showcasing before a handful of major label reps. This song is from that show, and the eighth in our set.
“Mr. Mystery” is the first song that Katie and finished writing together. I had this guitar riff in my head, and sent it to her to see if it sparked any ideas. What she sent back was very similar to what you hear in the verses, and “Hey, Mr. Mystery...” was her initial lyric idea.
We sent lyric ideas back and forth for about a week or two, and then really drilled-down to finish the song one night at her house. I have a great memory of us working diligently through it i...

We had probably played “Lucky Boy” at every gig for five years prior to this, but in an unusual display of nervousness, Katie lost her place in the song. At about 02:50, she unexpectedly went to the ...

Katie was a dear friend of mine, and I worked with her from the beginning of her music career until the end. Here's what I looked and sounded like in the Fall of 2004, performing with her. This song is called "Dictator Of My Sanity." Katie was the star, to be sure, but I feel a duty to my brother musicians to give them credit. That's Lenny Hickey on bass, and Zach Stutzman on drums (Awesome pla...
Dave Eberhardt - Jeopardy (Greg Kihn Cover)

This is my cover of Greg Kihn's 1983 hit, "Jeopardy." I don't own or claim anything related to the original recording. Addendum- I just figured out that the A chord in the pre-choruses should be major instead of minor. Maybe I should have waited another day to release it. :)

This is my cover of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years," from their 1986 album, Somewhere in Time. I've been a fan of these guys since I was in eighth grade, and this is their song, not mine (so go buy their albums).

This is my cover of Triumph's "American Girls" from their 1979 album, Just A Game. I always liked this song (though it seems a little silly to be singing it at my age now). I don't own or claim any part of the original composition.
Dave Eberhardt - Play The Game Tonight (Kansas Cover)

It only took a couple of decades for me to get around to recording this one... Here's "Play The Game Tonight" by Kansas, from their 1982 album, Vinyl Confessions. I do not own or claim anything related to the original composition. Owing to an issue with my camera, I had to shoot most of this in front of a black backdrop, and it came out much darker than I had planned. However, I managed to find...

Here's my rendition of Boston's “Amanda,” from their 1986 album, Third Stage. I claim no ownership of the original music composition or lyrics. I'm just an old dad who's a big fan of the original artists, and this is tendered with respect and admiration for them. About a dozen years ago, before Facebook sucked, I spent a few summer weeks soliciting my friends for music requests. Quite a few of ...

This is very good. You're a very talented musician. I hope you don't gauge your validity as a musical talent with how many 'likes" you get. Know that you're damned good and that it takes guts to make yourself vulnerable putting your art (whether it is music, writing, anything) out there to the public.
I can't adequately express how much I appreciate this. Truly, thank you.
🤩😍WOOOOW~! i love this vibe !its sounds like punk rocks of 2000~!love Y so much !!!🤩😍
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Let me solicit some opinions... Out of curiosity, if I made a few short videos showing how I do all this stuff, would you be interested in seeing that?
You did a really great job! This is my favorite Boston song.
Thanks for saying so!
@@davideberhardt2368 of course. How long did this take you?
Hard to say. I was also recording Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years," and Triumph's "American Girls" at the same time. I would estimate that drum-programming, guitars and vocals only took a few days... but the bass... It took two full days to get the bass down-- it's all over the place, and right at the limits of my skill-level!
@@davideberhardt2368wow, nice! Well, I think you nailed it. You captured the heart of the original song.
Thanks, I really do appreciate you saying so.
This guy is so talented
You're too kind. Thank you!

Wow, i like it.
Thanks for saying so!
Oh I miss that girl. Thanks for sharing this, Dave. I hadn’t seen this one. I’ll add it to my twice-a-year play-all-of-Katie’s-music-and-cry-a-lot playlist.
You're welcome. There's a lot more to share, but what I have is in terrible formats. I actually ripped this from a documentary (I figure I'm allowed), and did a little fixing to the video and audio. Glad you like it.
Hi, Dave! AI to the rescue, at some point. I was thinking the other day how much I wish I could have seen the "No Retakes" performance(s). Maybe there's hope? Wishing you well, Brian
I have a few videos here, and I'm surprised that they never made it out through other channels. I'll be sharing it all a bit at a time.
@@davideberhardt2368 love it.
Good job. You should do Lunatic Fringe or maybe Life is a Highway
Thanks! Those are both good suggestions. "Lunatic Fringe," in particular is an old favorite. The slide solo is a masterpiece!
I second Mike's comment. Crazy thing is I had the exact same thought...you need to do Lunatic Fringe!
It really is a good suggestion. Right now I have six other songs in the immediate queue, as well as a whole album's worth of original material that I've been ignoring. Literally, all I have to do is sing the vocals on it, and it's finished! :) Anyway, I will consider "Lunatic Fringe." Such a cool song.
Exelente 👍

I'm not familiar with the song but I can't imagine that the original could be any better than your cover. That was really cooking!!
Much appreciated!
Vocals have Cathy Richardson a run for her money Amazing talent Thank you Great song choice 👍
I don't think she has to work nearly as hard as I did to hit those notes! :) Thanks for listening. Much appreciated.
Wow, so good!

Thanks for the kind words!
Really great. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot!
It's one of my favorite songs. It's been a long time since I last heard it so I am not sure why it showed to my recommendations. Probably because RUclips knew that you did a perfect cover -- every instrument, vocals (including backup vocals), as well as video editing/videography. Thanks a lot for sharing your skills and keeping the song as close to the original as possible. 🙃
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like my rendition of it!
Excellent cover!

Wish there was a band video on this. You guys KILLED IT
Thanks so much. I did shoot some video of this, but I never did anything with it.
Holy Fuck was that AWSOME!!!!. This song has been on my jogging Playlist for 10 years......Now this version will replace it for the next 10. You guys NAILED a very hard song to sing. I have loved this song for so long and you gave the song more power than the original and I am so grateful to have come across this. WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I sure appreciate the kind words. Thank you!
wow! you guys really crank.....great cover
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the song. How is your son now? I have found a good quality magnesium citrate without a bunch of other fillers really helps for calming and makes working on overcoming selective mutism easier. For some people they take to it so well that they can start talking to certain people they previously were not. I would also recommend cutting out refined sugar as too much sugar even too much of a natural kind feeds anxiety often in general, but even more so for selective mutism . Switching over to an organic whole foods diet heavy on protein with smaller servings of veggies and carb has been very helpful for me. Something called dynamic neural retraining system might be worth a try also. Brisk exercise to start off the day and before having to go places is really helpful in reducing anxiety as well. Investing in a small house trampoline to jump on is excellent for this but even just a brisk walk is good. Anxiety is higher in the morning, so this can really help start off the day better as well as having mainly protein for breakfast to avoid the carb rush. Pointing out five things you can see, five things you can hear, and five things you can touch is good because it redirects your focus and gives an alternative to dwelling on anxious thoughts. If your son is comfortable in the house when people are not around, tell him to try and laugh for a few minutes before having to go out. Laughter makes being anxious pretty difficult and starts the day off better. Have some inspirational quotes for him to see each morning. In the mirror tell him to give himself a high five every morning, it gives a sense of confidence even if it sounds silly. Bring a notebook or doodle board that you guys can communicate back and forth with in those moments he is overwhelmed so he does not feel completely isolated.
Hi, thanks for all the great suggestions, and for your kind inquiry as to his well-being. He's receptive to the idea of starting with a new therapist, but whether he follows through with that once it looks more like a reality? Well, that remains to be seen. He's now at the age where HE is the one who has to want to make changes. Fingers crossed.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🐰😎

BADD A$$ Dave 👍😎🐰🇺🇸
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Very nice! Did you sequence the synth arpeggios? Just curious, because Craig is credited with that on the album, even though he was the lead guitarist.
Thanks! Interesting, I didn't know they were using sequencers that early (I know arpeggiators were around). The original recording tempo slides around a bit, so it would have been hard to lock a sequencer to it (but who knows how that all worked back then). :) To answer your question, I mentioned that synth part to a real keyboard-playing acquaintance of mine, because I was a little stuck on it (I'm just a guitarist who plays some very basic piano chords). He figured out the note sequence for me, and gave me a MIDI file that he made from it. For the recording, I only did the basic piano and organ parts.
Do you know, David, if they used a harmonizer or octavizer for some of the solos? It sounds like it to me, although they had like 3 guitarists in the band by then.
I think there's either a terrible fuzzy guitar in there, or a synthesizer, or both. It was before the age of intelligent harmonizers, so I think someone really played it.
@@davideberhardt2368 I see. Supposedly Tom Scholz of Boston built his own amps and FX etc., and one of those was some kind of harmonizer box.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that. I know that Les Paul built some kind of looper long before digital loopers were available. Those guys are way smarted than I am!
@@davideberhardt2368 I'm not sure when he built it, but it was one of his huge line of Rockman guitar rack FX boxes etc. for years. I think he had that way back in 1977 to 79 or so, in their heyday. Scholz was a total gear genius, building all his own custom stuff. Crazy. That's what you can do with a MIT engineering degree! LOL That Les Paul thing is even nuttier, given how early he must've built it.
This is fantastic. I've been busting out this song the past month or so, at home on my own, I am not an octopus, so I can't do the 12-string parts and electric at the same time, LOL, though I have six guitars here including a 12-string. Nor do I have a double neck SG. I would love one though! Anyway, singing along is fun but god Mickey's vocal range and power is hard to get near. It might help to invest in a good mic for myself and run that through a small amp.
Thanks for listening! Yeah, I think the only way to perform it live is with multiple guitarists. Maybe it might be possible with a doubleneck, or an acoustic on a stand... but also with two more guitarists. Hahah. Mickey's vocal is definitely hard to reach. Grace's soprano harmonies are even higher! Those just about killed me. :)
@@davideberhardt2368 Right, it takes a whole band to really do it justice. And someone with golden pipes and power.
Great song! You sang and played the instruments skillfully...excellent actually. Wow David...you are gifted. Im a singer/songwriter/musician of original material as well and I know it is challenging to find the right audience. Keep keepin on!
Thanks for the kind words, Sandra. Keep making music, it's what we do!
For sure! Take care my musical friend and keep the songs coming!
Very well-done!
Hey, thanks!
