I visited there during last Ethiopian Christmas. I didn’t experience anything that is remotely unsafe. Local people did mention about their concerns of armed violence after Christmas. Usually it is considered safe to travel to when there is active flight schedule. Although some hotels provide Wifi but Mobile Internet doesn’t work so most of the time it is difficult to gather live updates from the region. So you have to be extremely careful with your planning.

The town is mostly safe but before FANO amhara militia was clashing with Federal troops back in 2022/2023 but recent sources said FANO now liberated the town and the war has now been pushed further to the south and west
