Unfortunately have to replace the crank seal. But thank you made removing the clutch easier
No worries. Thank you for the comment.
I wish they used a remote filter or something. It makes such a mess
It definitely does make a mess. I try to wash all of my equipment after I do oil changes anyways. But a mess it does make!
@@Brotherslawn23 yes I pack either rags or those absorbent pads under the filter and try and do it as fast as possible. I have also found washing it with Dawn dish soap and hot water seems to get most of it off pretty good.
Great video. Thanks
Thank you.
My problem is i start the mower, pull the pto switch to engage the blade and when i do that it locks up, it dont just shut the mower off, its like its got a beake that stops everything motor and engine, im wondering if there is some safety deal that makes it brake the motor so hard to stop everything in half a sec, do you know or ever heard of something like that, a emergency stop that hits that hard
There’s no brake on the blades persay if the engine and all is stalling out most likely you have a bad spindle or a bad pulley, clutch etc. If it’s turning the engine off like you’re turning the key off it’s probably a safety switch of the control module. What model is your unit?
Hey my friend do you have a part number for the spindles on a Scag Tiger Cat 2 I'm having a lot of problems with the spindles the bottom seals or the grease release valves don't seal thanks Harry Erhart Erhart landscaping
The part number didn’t change it’s still 461663. The just updated the pop off valve. Thank you!
Thanks my friend 👍
Thanks
Thank you
Got the part a few days ago and followed the video step by step and it went perfectly. I’m not the handiest person but I follow directions well so again I appreciate that you made this video.
Awesome!! Glad to help! I appreciate your comment!
Excellent! Troubleshot in 3 minutes
Thank you for the comment glad to help!
That is the high g oil did it Wong
I’m not sure what your were typing, can you reeducate?
I got a toro titan hd 48 pto engages fine but bogs when you go to cut also notice if you have the deck all the way up it runs okay but i drop the deck and it starts to lose power have replaced the belt a few times
What engine is on it?
I’d load check the coils and check for good spark if it runs good no load and will pull the blades sitting still you may have a cracked coil/ bad coil that’s firing under light load but can’t handle the additional fuel/load on the spark plug
It's a 24 HP I'm not a 100% sure I can check and get back with you
@@dylanmaddox4761 get the engine make an model and let me know.
I adjusted the valves to 4 and ran it it worked but the main problem is it would not start then it would back fire then it starts fine what else could it be I replaced the carburator. So hard start, back fire on start up
Where did you get the carb from? Are you sure you’re getting a good strong spark?
Excellent job! So much better than it was, the floor makes a huge difference. There’s enough room for the single mower setup I think 10’ is plenty with as organized as it is!
Great job!
Thanks!
I got a 2021 scag tiger cat 2. Having starter issue. Turn key and it will click like starter is hitting fly wheel but won’t turn over. After a few try’s it will turn over and start. When it turns over, the crank speed is normal so I don’t think it’s the battery. Maybe solenoid?
How many hours? Check the voltage coming into the signal wire on the bottom of the starter the battery and main starter wire should be around 12 volts 12.6 is a fully charged battery. Scag has a relay kit you can install if your getting low voltage to the signal wire. Should be within a 1 volt or so of the battery voltage. Most that have that issue with a good battery are around 10 volts.
@@Brotherslawn23 173 hours. It’s a 2021 model. I mow 3 acres on my property. Unfortunately my warranty ran out 5/1. I have a 32hp vanguard engine. Thanks for your response and your videos.
@@FJB24 thank you for watching and the comments. If it has a Briggs the starter definitely may be at fault.
Scag is terrible about service I've had 9 John Deere mowers and never looked at the deck always cut great
They use to not be this way, they like many other after Covid just haven’t seemed to get back up to the normal standard.
"can't trust em" !! took it in for an engine seal oil leak, $600, 2 months later still leaking, and to boot they didn't torque the engine to the frame and holes were oblong from being wollered out, doing my own work now
That’s unfortunate. Some people should just put the tools down.
Thanks for the great video!
My pleasure!
Very helpful. Just ran into this. Do you happen to have a link for the inlink? The ones I’ve seen try to sell the whole kit for $300 plus. Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
@@brentv3359 I don’t but you can just replace the rod end they are around 60 ish dollars from Scag.
@@brentv3359 if the treads are broke off in the arm take a nut and weld to it or a punch and hammer they will usually come out and save you some money on the arm itself.
@@Brotherslawn23 thanks for the quick response!
Hey brother came accross your videos so helpful. Thanks for the information and clear explanation
Thank you i appreciate your watching and commenting!
Do have pictures of your grass when it not wet at that height
Yes I do but I’m not sure how to post them on here as a comment.
I just changed the thumbnail to that yard when it was dry at 3.5 inches of cutting height
I had to change the middle one on mine at 1200 hrs. Not as easy. That damn thing might as well been welded on.
If you have a big enough air hammer get the bolts loose and drive the spindle out out of the hub, I drive the pulley off as seen in the video, but if the hub is froze to the spindle just drive the spindle through it.
What was the process to finding the draw?
It looks very good!
It’s pretty cool watching the repair in real time. You work fast.
I appreciate the likes, comments and subscriptions!
Do I need to check the one on my Exmark vantage? I have never messed with it but it has over 1300 hours on it. Do you know if the exmark are the same way? Thanks!
I don’t know for certain off the top of my head, but from what I’m seeing research wise the vantages use a non-adjustable pto clutch.
that's my project for today. Thanks for taking the time to help me out
No worries I appreciate the comment, subscription etc. enjoy the job it’s not bad at all

Bro that was impressive the speed and efficiency
Thanks it’s been a little while since I’ve had to do one.
@@Brotherslawn23 I have to do 3 myself but this has given me a little more confidence
Also how many pumps of grease did you do for the new spindles
@@jayhaynes4668 just nuts and bolts my friend.
@@jayhaynes4668 I check the “pop off “ or over flow valve and when it starts to come out I stop.
How often do you do valve adjustment? I have the same mower
I recommend ever 350 hours for all Kawasaki air cooled engines.
Question for you. I'm adjusting mine as we speak the center bolt. Is that supposed to be tight? Because mine was very loose, I can loosen it with my hand
Yes that’s the main clutch bolt to the engine. Ironically this unit in the video was loose as well.
So loose or tight ? Bc I've watched other videos and they say their bolt was supposed to be tight
@@bigslappy1984 sorry it’s supposed to be tight that’s what holds the clutch to the engine.
@@Brotherslawn23 thank you for your help
@@bigslappy1984 no worries I hope that helped! I appreciate the likes comments and you watching my videos!
Good morning sir Do you use the grease for all the fittings ? What number grease is that ? The number 1 or 2 ? On the manual it tells you to use a type for spindles and another for the chassis
Yes I know according to the manual your supposed to use lithium I believe on the spindles and chassis grease for everything else. I haven’t ever used but one grease, in my opinion it’s more important how often you grease than the grease that you use.
Thank you
Thank you
Not sure if we have the same spindles but FWIW my 2022 Liberty Z had a couple spindles go bad with less than 40 hrs on the machine
They are aluminum non grease able. That’s sad I’m not sure what’s with scags quality control lately
Right to the point explanation and video. Awesome. I've changed one spindle on our turf tiger. It did not come off so easy, was a 2002 model. We literally had to torch it off. I really hope our 2019 model comes apart that easy blade brothers!
I appreciate that. I have some tricks for the old stuck spindles, I just couldn’t use them on these warranty spindles.
Thanks
The absolute best part of this video is how you get right to the point without going through 20 minutes of the history of grass cutting or 20 minutes of your personal history that explains your path to Lawn Care. I know it sounds. I’m being sarcastic, but I truly do appreciate the amount of information that was given in such a short amount of time. Great job in my opinion
I appreciate that. I probably don’t get the views or followers because of it. Most people like the drama. But I appreciate it!
Awesome thank you!
Thank you for the comment
what's stopping those bolts from backing out, or vibrating loose? my brain is thinking like adjusting a rocker arm, where there's a lock nut and a screw you turn in or out.
They are nylon lock nuts. But that’s all.
@Brotherslawn23 I'll be damn... surprised they don't melt here in Texas haha.
@@morejelloplease can’t say I’ve seen them melt….. yet
Hey brother I got a 2016 tiger cat with the 27ho kohler and my pto switch keep going out I went through 3 switches in 4 days literally and my fuses are getting really hot
Check the pro clutch. Go back through my channel and I have videos on how to check them electrically
When you get a chance can you make a video on changing the hydro oil on that mower? I have the same exact mower as you
I have that video posted as well speak!
@@Brotherslawn23 thanks boss. I thought about buying the Scag 20w50 but that shit is expensive. Went with the Kawasaki 20w50 instead
@@branman7211 no worries. That’s what I’ve always ran!
Best video I have ever seen by far. So my ground on the PTO switch failed. It passed the voltage test, 12.4 volts going to the clutch… but the next test you recommended, testing the ground, it failed. Where do I go from there
Check the case ground on the side of the block if you, check all of your connections if all tests good the harness is gone.
Really youll could open a mower shop during winter months and make a little money 😊 Just pick your customers 😮
I’ve talked about it and thought about it, but I’d want to run one not work for one. Been down that road once before.
Run you a small flat head on the cut of the taper lock to widen it and it’ll slide off easier . Good job 👍🏻
I now know how to change a spindle on a scag thanks to this very helpful video. Thank you!
Great video on diagnosing wire harness and clutch switch and clutch
Glad it helped. Thank you for the comment.
The best way to do it is removing the clutch
I agree and disagree I have a videos of both on the tiger cat 2 it’s easy to see the slots on the tiger cat ones it’s definitely harder to see Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the no nonsense, straight to the point video.
Thank you for the comment. Glad to help and hope you come back to watch future videos.
I’m new to working on this type of equipment. I’ve got a 1st gen scag v ride. And sometimes the blades take quite a bit of time to engage. Would this be the place to start?
Checking the voltage to the clutch, the ohms on the clutch and the adjustment but mostly it’s the adjustment.
How you like your scag so far
I’ve been running scags since I could stand on a velki. I love scags, the are fairly simply and very tough.
@@user-zy1qd4rs8j I own two, a tiger cub and a tiger cat and love them both. Very tough, easy to work on and alot of interchangeable parts. I have a Kawasaki and a Briggs. Both of them perform well
Good job, more videos please thank you.
Thank you for the comment I working on them.
