Old School / Retro Studio Logo Demo for Reddit Question
I found a hidden gem for davinci resolve tutorials because of reddit comments.
Glad I could help. :)
Like and subscribe. Thank you for your effort
Dagnabit! I was playing around with this a bit more and added a bitmap node to the grid effect I added at the end and used that to soften the edges of the blur and the fot matrixish effect came out 100X better. It looks SO MUCH BETTER. Basically Rectangle2 > Background8 > Transform1 > Bitmap1 (newly added) Then on BitMap1 I added just a feather light touch of Soft Edge (0.0014) and "chef's kiss".
you're a legend, thank you
Love this stuff keep it up.
bro dont say its pretty close. if you say it to ceasy faris I am afrid he might not be able to do that. dont underestimate yourself my programer friend 🥰
Haha! I'm pretty sure he could do it with his eyes closed, but thanks for the confidence boost! Casey is pretty awesome.

Cool effect. I'll give this a go. Thanks
Great intro lol
Nothing shows when I put my loader node either Window 1 or Window 2. It's just black. Working on Mac.
Just subscribed. I think your work Is far beyond my experience but you are going to be very helpful. I want to know how you guys have such an experience in nodes. I've been doing it for two years but don't know that stuff. Do you join any schools for that or something else. I want to know mate
I'm all self taught. I've been doing photo and video for over 15 years as a sideline to my dayjob. I also don't really watch much TV and instead watch tutorials, video essays, behind the scenes videos ... more than anything else. I also practice a lot on personal projects on top of doing the odd bit of client work. These tutorials also often chewllenge me to create these effects that people want to learn how to do so are good practice. My dayjob is also in programming so the very logical flow of nodes in fusion makes a lot of sense to my programmer's brain. Nodes are less like scrapbooking and more like building a factory. :) When I moved over to Davinci one channel that REALLY helped me quickly switch to this new workflow was Casey Feris he's totally worth checking out.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography oh I see, 15 years are enough to be like you. I though you may start making tutorals on 3d workflow
@MuhammadaliRaza-xc2jp You don;t need 15 years you just need to be willing to invest in yourself even if it's just spending more time learning. One of the things that I find helps istackling composites that are outside your current skillset and trying to figure out how to do it ... it forces you to learn new skills and tools. I've used the 3d environment to create 2d paralaxing a lot and use actual 3d models inside the 3d environment for a title sequence for a super low budget music video for a client once. I have a tutorial I am working on right now re-creating a vintage logo design that uses the 3d tools inside DaVincii to make the logo fly in ... just trying to figure out how to make it an interesting tutorial because the comp is pretty complex and my usual "follow along as I do it" would be REALLY long. Honestly for a lot of 3D work I would jump into Unreal Engine or Blender. I've only done a few tests in Unreal with adding some green screen footage of my daughter into an unreal scene (you can see it in my VFX reel).
@EricLefebvrePhotography Man after reading your message I rememberd the nepoleon saying. He said "Build an army of 100 dogs, appoint a lion as their leader and watch them all fighting like a lion". If we nwebies are surrounded by people like you we can perform much better as we are now. Thanks for your advice mate. I'm on it from now on
Awesome ! ❤
Thanks!
I'm really grateful for your videos my friend. There is a tool from Meta called SAM2, it does exactly the same as Magic mask, it is free but has some limitations (1080p and just 10 second of videos at oncee), you could export the video (SAM2 will let you export the video with green background) and then convert every frame to PNG and achieve the same result, Am I wrong? I am just a beginner and I am not sure if this would work
Sounds a lot like RunwayML's green screen tool. I'll check it out, thanks.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography Thank you so much!
This one was really good, thanks!! How'd you get this good?
Thanks for the compliment. I;ve been doing photo and video as a sideline for about 15 years and my dayjob is programming so Fusion really speaks to my programing brain. :) I also don't watch much TV, I spend more time learning new things. So a lot of practice and years of self learning. :) Also for fusion, Casey Feris really helped get me started with HIS videos.
This is a fantastic tutorial!
Glad you liked it. Trying to figure out the next tutorial now. :)
@@EricLefebvrePhotography Very nice. I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Please give link to your Replay AI website.
It's an application you run locally. www.tryreplay.io/ It's pretty great.
Do you think would be a way to modify the progress with anim curves, so you don’t have to keyframe it and it just adjusts the length length of the comp?
Yes ... using a probably using the Keyframe Stretcher. If I was making this into a macro I would probably have modded it with that and then set the title and cover images as editable fields. I would also make the template like 1 second long (because you can stretch with a keyframe stretcher but not really make it shorter). That's a good point. Maybe I should have made this into a MACRO as part of the tutorial.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography I would love to see these kind of Macro tricks!
Now that 19.1.3 is out and MACROS are fixed I may done one. Most of my own custom built macros were broken under a bus in 19.1.2 but 19.1.3 just came out today and they are all working again now.
Yeah this one is really nice!
Great content! You just earned yourself a subscriber! Keep it up, looking forward to more of this kind of content!
Thanks for the sub and kind words. Have plenty planned. I have one uploaded right now as a draft in making a fake desktop and chat program. Should be releasing in a few days.
I've been trying to figure this out as a beginner in DaVinci- I'm used to masking techniques in programs like Animate, Figma, etc. I'm essentially trying to make a static mask that masks a moving PNG with a move transition on it- in my case, scrolling raindrops to make them look like they're falling from a cloud. When I try to do this, the mask just moves along with the clip, which isn't what I'm going for. I tried making the mask also in the color section, and animate keyframes on the mask to prevent it from scrolling, but it whacks out my png (which has transparency) and makes it like a big black chunk.
For the "Big Black chuck" it might need a post multiply checkmark somewhere in your tree. I'd need more info (feel free to hit me up on REDDIT www.reddit.com/user/EvilDaystar/) But it sounds like maybe you are overcomplicating it? Hard to say without morfe info obviously. Would be great if we could see your tree or maybe an example of what you are trying to achieve.
Keep them coming
Ur really good
This is great! What was the reddit post you are replying to / solving?
In this question. www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/s/OEPLMG0yCG Glad you enjoyed the tutorial.
I hope you'll do more motion graphics tutorials for Fusion. I'm a Cinema 4d and After effects motion designer in the process of learning to replace them with Fusion and Blender. I'm trying to get to the point where I can achieve anything in Fusion that I could in After effects and tutorials like this one are very helpful. The write on feature you showed was really cool and I haven't seen anyone cover that until now.
That's the plan. I'm working on one where I make a fake desktop with a chat program interaction as mograph in Fusion. A full desktop, with working clock, notification popup and chat seuquence. That should be coming up soon. A bit of a longer video and I'm putting a bit more effort in streamlining the video.
the goat returns
Back from holidays. We traveled alit to see family and my daughter had a Dance competition that was a 9 hour drive away. Have a few tutorials in the works.
Great explaination. Thnx!
Hello Eric, is there a way to make de corners rounded?
Sure. add a background node at the start merge your footage into it, you'll want to add a tranform and size it down a bit, add a rectangle mask to that marge, set rounded corners and play with the height and width a little. This will round the corners of your original clip BEFORE it get's warped. It will leave black where the rounded corners are but it will leave you with rounded corners and you could deal with that black with some masks further down the tree if that's an issue.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography It worked really well. I appreciate your answer!
little tip (if you don't know) you can have multiple font in the same text instead of using 2 separate texts: Opt. 1: Use Text, Write the text, Select the word you wanna change (in the box you used to write the text), Change the font, Done; Opt. 2: Use Text+, Go on fusion, Write the text, Right click, select -> Character Level Styling, On top-right (near "Tools") click Modifiers, Select the text you wanna change ON SCREEN and all the settings for that selected text will appear on the modifiers. I apologize in advance for my poor English, but I hope I was as clear as possible ^^"...
@V3jah omg! Now that you mention it I vaguely remembered this being added in what? 19 ... 19.0.3? Somewhere around there. Thanks gor the reminder!
@@EricLefebvrePhotography 2 years+ ago xD
@@V3jah LOL!! Seriously? I've been doing it this way for ages! Thanks for the heads up.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography I'm glad it helped you ^^
@@V3jah CLS is much older than that. It's even in Fusion 7 from the Eyeon days.
I think this is a really great series. I saw this post on the subreddit since I'm constantly helping people on there when I can. I think some different packaging would do some good to get these tuts more views something like "Create {company name} text ads with Davinci Resolve" something along those lines. Nonetheless great video.
So I'm an idiot ... when I pulled the Despill up (around the 4:15 mark) I removed the green from the scene, I didn;t key it, I simply desaturated the reamining green. This is what happens when you make a tutorial video wihtout a script. :)
I freaking love electric circuits 🤣 and nodes , I switched to resolve 2 yrs ago , had a blast in editing ,colorgrading , fairlight page , never put much effort to learn fusion ,only thing I use is to keyframe zoom and motionblur and adjusting curves in spline , This video surfaced on my feed watched the whole thing and I'm definitely jumping in fusion now . Very clear explanation video loved it thank you so much for making the video :) it was perfect for a beginner .
10 / 10 for the introduction 🤣
I'm so happy people enjoyed it. I made it and then realised it might be a bit dated for the target audience. LOL
Great intro lol
YES!!! Someone got it! *does a happy dance*
You can be using resolve and still stick with after effects. After effects just makes so much sense while fusion is just a bunch of confusion. Sometimes doing the simplest thing is complicated… I’m sticking with after effects and you should to. Not that fusion is all bad but when it comes to graphic design, it is so needlessly complicated.
I edited in premiere until cs6 then dropped it when thye went subscription. Then moved to Vegas until they does to Magix. Then HutFilm Pro (ver similar to premiere and ae) until got sold to artlist and now Davinci Studio. So I've used a lot of nles and that not counting others like blender, unreal engine, natron ... Yes, some things in fusion are more difficult but I still argue that for most things, nodes are better. I'm not trying to convince people to switch, use whatever you want, no skin off my back. ;) This video is to help people who are moving into DaVinci get a grip on fusion. I do disagree with you vehemently that nodes are just a bunch of complicated nonsense. Nodes are about the most logical way of doing things I have seen but that may be the programmer in me talking.
fusion might be complex in starting compare to Ae but as someone who have used both quit well i can safely say fusion is way better than after effects and nodes are miles better then layers for motion graphics and compositing
Lmao it doesn't. Nodes are more logical than layers and it has been forever.
@@rano12321yes and fusion even also have layers for trimming and offseting and it is made for every tool unlike after effects which kind of only make layers for source images fusion is good in so many ways compares to ae and imagine if it was popular like ae
Well you are going to have to learn something a bit different, but once things get sufficiently complicated, nodes are going to be better. Layers get nested rather quickly. Nodes will not be hidden behind layers.
Hopefully this will help demistify NODES. Also, I am curious as to how many of tyou will have gotten the refrence for the intro sketch?
Great Explanantion! Like your workflow! Thanks👌
Glad you enjoyed it. Switching to a node based system can be a bit daunting and often on Reddit I see people frustrated because they don't understand the idea of nodes. Had a few people say they didn;t want to go into fusion because it was too complicated. :) HNow I just need to make my tutorials a bit mor polished. I compre these to others like Casey Feris and ... they are a bit threown together. Anyways, thanks for the comment, always appreciated. :)
This is nice❤❤
Can U show a video on how to make an UI similar to yours. This is soo clean than the default one. Did u use any plugins to do this or am I just stupid. Thank you in advance
Oh! For the Fusion layout all I did was used a built in preset. Go to: Workspace > Layout Presets > Fusion Presets > Mid Flow Vertical. If you are editing a portrait style video then use Mid Flow instead of Mid Flow Vertical and it will put your 2 preview windows side by side instead of on top of each other. I also enable Arrange Tools to Grid by right clicking the node area and selecting that option under "arrange tools".
@@EricLefebvrePhotography Thanks!!! I'll try it out
This is cool. But I’m to scared to even touch nodes
@@speedwashcarwash nodes are basically an assembly line of conveyor belts. I'm working on a video intro to nodes right now.
im making low effort basketball edits and would love the "dot effect" as more of an overlay ie instead of a background have it opacly overlaying over older and grainer footage, how can I attain this? new to the fusion tab as a whole.
Yeah. That wouldn't be too hard either. It depends a litte on the specific effect you are looking to achieve. Are you trying to give it an effect of being on an old CRT monitor? Are you trying to give out an old black and white comic book half tone style? Obviously I can't really explain or go in detail in a small RUclips comment. :) But all of those effcets could be achieved with a varioation of th etechnique I showed here. Off the top of my head I would probably run the grid over a solid to create a permanent grid and then it depends on what you are trying to overlay. For questions like these you could also head over to REDDIT. There is a sub there specifically for DaVinci (I spend a lot of time there).
Great tutorial, cool to see you posting so consistently 🔥Btw placing the Davinci resolve logo in your thumbnails may get you more clicks since it'll automatically tell people what the video is about without having to read the title/thumbnail.
Thanks for the tip! Honestly I need to up my game. Most of these are off the cuff.
Remember that v19.1(Free) don't support reactor and editors lab
@XSession Yeah. I use studio so didn't affect me but man! What a strange decision on the part of BMD to just hamstring community projects like that. I wonder what the reason behind that feature clawback was. Security? Licensing? Greed?
@@EricLefebvrePhotographydon't know but they should understand that people when make money from the app will buy studio 😔 I don't know why they don't understand I'm not talking about me I have studio but think about other people,
Was looking forward to this ever since you mentioned it, thanks for this!!!! I'll definitely be using this approach with the project I'm working on!!! I could definitely see your channel becoming a mainstay in the DR community!!!
Thanks! Much appreciated. There are some really good channels out there like Casey Faris amd the likes but I hope to bring a different perspective.
Still haven't used the multimerge in my stuff. It's usually do one thing, merge it, do something else merge it and so on. Doesn't look like I'll be using the Switch node much either.
@dnfta the switch node isn't merge... it's more like a doppelganger ... it becomes whatever it has touched. I'm working on a video on that using a 3d scene as an example and it's pretty sweet.
you can actually go way past 64 inputs too if you go into the edit controls of the node. Great video man! I'll be checking out your text effect tutorial too! The switch node gives me hope that Davinci will be making a good push for making motion graphics capabilities in fusion better from 19.1 to 20!!!
I toyed around with it tonight ... came to a super interesting conclusion. Hint: 3d scenes. Will probably release a video on this in a day or so.
@@EricLefebvrePhotography oh really??? 👀👀 will be excited to see what you post
Apparently doing tutorials unscripted leads to me being an idiot. A lot of problems could have been solved if I had moved my text UNDER the color pattern nodes instead of putting it OVER. If oyu guys see anywhere else I could have been more efficient, let me know in the ocmments.
