Thank you for your interesting testimony. I had never heard about this before. It is good to remember those who have gone before us. The present and future are of course built from the past. When I was a boy studying the clarinet with the principal clarinet James Joseph of the Northern Sinfonia used to say that often if we were successful we would talk about famous players we had studied with even if we only had one lesson with them whereas the local teacher who had taught us perhaps for years got forgotten. I always remember that and try to give credit to those who have gone before us, so I was interested to hear this testimony. History is so important. Like to see more videos from both of you. Michael lowenstern is my favorite bass clarinet and composer in Brooklyn and I want to see him in concert in new york city this year!

I originally responded as I watched and then came to realize that the participants addressed everything I mentioned and more. Very well-done roundtable. Appreciated. The only thing I might add is to explore the techniques of Stoicism which tells us not to stress the things we have no control over. Prepare the things you _do_ have influence over. Enjoy the moment.

I took a couple ideas from Harold Wright and a few from Robert Marcellus and put them together. What I came up with is “removal-toot.” Marcellus said “toot’s the magic word,” and Harold Wright said ”think of the release of the tongue.” Harold Wright also told me he didn’t think about preparing the fingers. I concluded that a short, clear staccato note on a continuous air stream with a deliberate removal of the tongue to begin each one works if you play them consecutively. And, at least for me, with slow practice, it does.
