I had 2 Rovers and 2 MG between 2000-2010, and I don't care what anyone says about them. They were great cars. 😢
Likewise. Had two rovers and an MG from 2002 to 2014. All three were absolutely cracking cars, especially the MG.

We are big classic car enthusiasts mainly Ford but we have just bought a very low mileage 75 a superb car and far Better than most cars of that era
I just finished watching the five part BBC docu about the time when BMW took over Rover. Aside from BMW flying a few of the young apprentices to Munich for 'cultural accimatization', the fourth part showed the hiring process when they ramped up production. Out of 20 000 applicants 2 000 were chosen. As part of the process, they were intensely questioned about their motivation about wanting to work for Rover, and their expectations for the future. Then they were put thru a weeks-long training process under the eagle-eyed supervision of experienced workers. Mind you, all that was for blue-collar assembly line jobs. Of course, a job for a while beats not having a job at all, but I wonder how enthusiastic they would have been about their job, had they known that is wasn't going to last for just a little more than a decade. I've worked on contract-based jobs. After a few years, you get used to a certain level of income and you don't see it coming to an end any time soon. But eventually it does, and all that is left are the vestiges acquired from the middle class life style that your paycheck helped you attain, at least for a few years, and the fact that you are ten years older when you go out job hunting again.
The Phoenix four jumped on the back of BMW splitting the group up into Land Rover, Mini and Rover. It was BMW that killed Rover off you can’t blame the four for taking the opportunity to make a tidy bit of money when Rover was doomed from the offset with the BMW relationship, you just have to look at what BMW did to Land Rover and the P38 for example never got the M57 engine for its facelift and the L322 got the 177bhp unit instead of the 200bhp unit the X5 got… just sneaky tactics in an attempt to kill the brands off, until they realised the Mini Brand might make them a tidy bit of profit money and actually made an effort. Strange why they didn’t do that with LR.
I work there for 16 years. I'm still angry, sad I will never fully heal.
This is the South Works the CAB1 assembly lines and CAB2 where the BMW MINI was to be built, the North and West works already built on. In the end much of the vast factory was empty, such as the West Works where the Metro bodies were built after its modernisation at the end of the 70s.
Everyone knows rover used the same parts bin for over 25 years. Almost Ponzi scheme tactics
Compared to the equivalent Jag of the Ford era, the Rover 75 was utter garbage, build quality was atrocious, and that's the truth, they literally fell apart....
@@crozwayne sadly time has shown the 75 to be a better built car overall in terms of longevity. MK3 Mondeo tdci turbos, injectors (coded too) and dmf failures all of which the 75 diesels don't suffer with. MK3 Mondeo also had issues with rear subframe mounts falling apart and causing rattles. The really annoying part with the 75 tho.. they made it a saloon when it should have been a hatchback
Now look how well MG is now doing under Chinese ownership? Huh, the English, they can just about organise a piss up in a brewery, and not much more else!
Well done excellent work looks great
RIP Neil Wedgbury who was in the Paint Shop and got me in on a few visits in the 1990s , they couldn't make enough of the Minis for Japan all top spec with leather interior , air conditioning , big arches , alloys , deep pile carpets.......amazing sights and sounds ......Sadly all gone 😢
We let China Steal it ..........after the Phoenix 4 fleeced it ......Sad Very Sad 😢
Excellent turn around given the circumstances, I really like the interior work, must be a big lift to the driving experience. A good solid base to start on is motivation in itself. "A nice bit of concrete", had to laugh.
You didn't waste any time cracking into that. Certainly worth spending the time and money on. The cost breakdown will be useful to many people considering one of these as a long term investment. Thank you.
There seems to be very little mention of Honda who shared their technology and designs whilst improving quality. The part Thatcher played in selling it off to BAe, without even consulting Honda, send to have been forgotten. Of course Honda would remain aggrieved by such a betrayal.
Still very sad to this day, and I’m sure more could have been done to save it long before that terrible day, government didn’t want to know and were happy for it to slide away
You deserve more subs. Your videos are great
Thank you

Let's talk about diesels, Not badgers or beetles, Sing a song of a tourer, No blue is azure-er, He's new in the yard, He's blue in the yard, All he needs is some love, And sometimes a shove, Then he drives up and down, In Rochdale town, And all of the girls, Pull their sunglasses down. So gve him some love It ain't that hard The way his disc brakes Bring all the cats to the yard. And his name is Fred, And he was a bit of a shed, So they called him Fred, Fred the shed And he's blue not red, And he was left for dead, (Or so Mustard said) But they gave him him some head, (Liner love) Cause he's Fred, Fred the Shed, Everyone's favourite shed, And he's back from the dead. So they gave him some head, (Lamp polishing) Cos' he's Fred, he's Fred the Shed, Now he's back from the dead, And he's less of a shed, (As Ross Thomson said) So give him some head- (Gasket prayers, that it don't need no repairs) Cos' his name is Fred, Let's hear it for Fred, Fred the Shed, And he's back from the dead, Fred the Shed, Fred the Shed, (Repeat to fade)
Brilliant 👌😂
@@Mighty_Cat_Mods thats brilliant!! Love it 😂
Wow. I wish you could make my saloon look like that!
Outstanding work, you've done an amazing job bringing Fred back from the edge.
Thank you, we are really happy with how it's turned out just paint and bodywork to sort next 🙂
Absolutely fabulous. Kudos!
Thank you kindly! 😊
Well done on the MOT with absolutely NO ADVISORIES!!! Enjoy the freedom Fred ❤️
MG does this now stand for Monosodium Glutamate,?
From all those Great brands Austin, Morris, Triumph, Rover, Riley ,Woolsley, VDP Leyland Trucks Vans and Tractors to nothing now ! I worked for an Austin Rover dealer from 1982 to 1991 i wounder how many cars built at Longbridge i touched over those years ? Thousands i bet.
I've heard Rover MIGHT be coming back in two years under Tata Motors control, but it's not going to be all new designs with the traditional Rover traditions values and qualities it used to have, it's going to be based on Tata Motors existing car designs ie a badge engineered range of models. Good luck to that, it's car reviewers and customers who'll decide how successful this new iteration of Rover will be, not Tata Motors.
Great to see Fred getting a load of TLC. Take that Boaty. I really need this treatment on my 75.
Wow! What a great job you guys are doing! 😊
Thanks captain mustard 😊 will bring further videos in the coming week or so.
The MG6 was okay, it was a good car but earlier this year I found that you can't get spares for it anymore. I was forced to sell and now have a VW. What a sorry state the UK car manufacturing sector is in. I can't see it ever recovering. The old traditional names are no more and MG is now only a cover for Chinese exploitation. Even the nearest MG dealership to me is turning business away and encouraging potential owners to buy Dacia instead.
Wicked evilness! Think of the jobs and income that left the area.
Thank you for taking care of Fred the Shed! 🐈 A bit like BigClive, your voice is very pacifying. I fell asleep while watching this. Lucky I wasn't driving 😹
Isn’t marketing wonderful? With its DeDion axle, inboard brakes and the spare inside I never could have used the term “capacious boot” on my P6B, nor did the “new paint method …say goodbye to rust” either lol
All along BMW wanted Land Rover to help them develop their own all new BMW X5 ,then sell it off but they wanted to keep Mini to help them cover more market share with an Iconic Brand. By not letting Rover retain the Mini in which they had developed using their small car expertise -Rover was doomed.. Mini was the bedrock of the Rover European dealer network and without Mini the dealers left the Franchise and there was no other Modern top seller as the Metro was far too long in the tooth and the Rover 75 although good could not deliver the sales needed.
Looking to forward to more content with Fred. Thanks!
Paul did say it was a solid car underneath. Look forward to the interior review 🤣
@@clanmac66 Paul did and he was right its a good solid example. The interior review and clean up video will come soon 🙂
