Stitch The Sketch Episode 43 (Thread Sketching Series)
This video and your post about your Juki have been very helpful. I have been wanting a machine that will handle thread painting and quilting but had not made a decision. You answered many of my concerns and questions in your posts and video. I have been following you for a long time and value your opinions on thread art and other related subjects. It has been a joy seeing you mature as an artist, and I admire your sense of community when it comes to art. Thank you. Keep up the wonderful work. And God bless.
@esmeralda I’m so glad you found answers in my multiple postings here and on my blog . And thanks for letting me know. 💕
Clara, your stitching is beautifully executed and the drawing is very original. I’d love to see more of your artistic talent. Beautiful work!
Thank you. You can check my website for my current exhibitions to see more of my work
i now understand how to do thread painting thank you very much. you explain as you go. i have subscribe
Awesome. Thanks for subbing
Beautiful!!

Parabéns seu trabalhos são lindos, maravilhosos perfeitos amei bjos Brasil
💕💕💕
Thank you for such a clear explanation. Your work is exceptional 💗
+Palomina Joy, so glad to hear my explanation was clear. Enjoy using facings to finish your work.
I like your art and you are good at sewing from Eyram ,
Aww Eyram, thank you so much. That makes me very happy 💕💕💕
Such lovely stitching! Thanks for posting this video!
Aww thank you. I love to share 💕
I am an art student and plan on using some “line and wash” style thread sketching with inktense for one of my classes this semester, I decided now is the perfect time to start playing with this style I have always wanted to try. Just have to get a free motion foot
Wondering what sewing machine you use here?
Hi Jill, that’s the most common question I get. I use a Juki 2010Q. It’s a straight stitch machine with no fancy stitches. It just sews straight. I hope that answers your question
Beautiful, thanks for sharing your work. I am new to thread sketching but am addicted to it.
Thread painting is fun 🤩
Lovely, Clara, I've only seen the freemotion sketching as outlines until now - the shading looks really effective. Something new for me to try!
Absolutely Gillian, you can use sketching for more than outlining. Try it out.
can you tell us the material that you use, it seem like many layers of different materials please advice.
For sure. My supplies list is on my website Hers the direct link to it claranartey.com/stitch-the-sketch-3-english-breakfast/
Love your style of thread painting.
Aww 😊. Thanks Patricia
Excellent video and beautiful artwork. You inspired me to give this a try.
I hope you do. Let me know the outcome 😀
Amazing work! I love how you created the painting, printed on fabric and quilted.
Love your "Chance Meeting" Thanks for sharing. GiGi
Thanks Gigi
Wonderful video and beautiful quilt. You have been a great ambassador for art quilting. I wish you continued success!!
Thanks so much. That's a really nice thing to say about being an ambassador for art quilting. I appreciate it.
@@Claranartey I remember being really impressed with you when we sat next to each other on Cape Cod at Elizabeth Barton's workshop.
Clara - I am SOOOO glad I have found you! You are an amazing talent and so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your process. Your artwork is stunning.
Thank you. I'm glad to be able to share my work.
Clara I went to your website and did not see how to access this course. Is the course still available? Thank you
Here's the link to this course- academy.claranartey.com/p/facing-art-quilts
Thank you so much! Your work is so beautiful!
I am the richest person since seeing this.Your work is really inspiring me.Thank you
You’re welcome
I have never seen something like this. May I ask why you work with gloves? This is amazing!!!
Maree Van Rooyen thank you. I use gloves to help me get a better grip on the fabric. So that I can move it around more easily
@@Claranartey this is such a wonderful way to create art. I have a very old machine 32 years old. I have tried to see where I can lower the foot dog. Maybe get another machine? Thanks for sharing. Love from South Africa
Maree Van Rooyen you don’t have to get a new machine if your old machine is in good shape but doesn’t have the ability to lower the feed dogs. What you can do is cover the feed dogs so they can no longer move or feed the fabric through. You can use heavy duty tape to cover your machine’s feed dogs.
Maree Van Rooyen it helps me to hold the fabric firmly and have better control over it
LOOOOVELY WORK👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Chris
Piękny ten słonecznik😍
Beautiful work and design ideas. Thank you so much for sharing 😍
SO COOL! 👍
Fabulous. I subscribed. Kate 😊
Great way to fold. I don't use open shelving but use clear storage boxes labeled by colour. I use this to keep projects in as well. I'll share on your fB page a picture of the boxes.
Awesome! I look forward to seeing a picture of your fabric storage boxes
great teaching video!
Clara, you are inspiring. Love your art creations.
Thank you. So glad you're getting inspired from these videos.
What is your base fabric?
It’s cotton usually one of my hand-dyeds. Whether hand dyed or not, it’s always cotton.
Thank you for this Clara. It has helped to confirm some of my own thoughts. Some interesting points for discussion. I understand and have seen all the trends mentioned, but most especially when it comes to the age of new entrants to the craft. I volunteer for the UK Lace Guild and we, like so many other crafts, have an ageing membership, with very few young people coming through. When we demonstrate at shows, youngsters are really keen to learn, but there are fewer and fewer teachers to give them regular lessons. It occurred to me a while ago that our demographic was more women aged 55+ (those taking early retirement and those retiring at the usual age). They tend to have some disposable income, as well as lots of time to fill. We need to aim our membership campaigns at this group. Potentially, each one has over 20 years to give to the craft! A trend we are seeing very much more of in this traditional craft is the use of colour, textured threads and yarns and more contemporary designs. Many of these contemporary designs are 'Art' pieces. We encourage new work and hold a triennial competition to support this.
You're most welcome. Andrea. Thank you for your observation about our industry. My quest is to find out how to attract the youth to this thing we all love to do.:-)
Amei seu trabalho, perfeito parabens!
Clara, I just watched your Facing Art Quilt lessons. It's a great session and I will use this method for my first art quilt that I just finished today. I have a question though. What hanging method can you use with this kind of facing?
Hi +Marsha, I'm so glad to hear that you found my course on facing your art quilt great. Thanks for the feedback. You can sew a standard hanging sleeve to the back of a faced quilt or you can hand stitch it to a stretched canvas or you can use the velcro method (which I explain here claranartey.com/mount-fiber-art-canvas/). I hope that helps. Clara
Just amazing. So exciting.
I know right. Thanks so much.
Beautiful Clara! I love watching your quilting pieces evolve!
Thanks +NarfCat. Can't wait to bring you more...
Thanks +NarfCat
Hi Clara, You are amazing and you always find the most interesting people! Thanks for keeping us inspired!
You're most welcome +Claudia Ziersch

Clara Nartey - Artist Will do
Thank you for your input and sharing.
You're welcome +Linda Bridges
Thanks +Linda Bridges. I use black fabric on the back of my work and that’s what creates the reflected image on the back. Also I use the same threads on top in the bobbin.
This is beautiful. So surprised this was the bsck. Would love to learn how you get the back as pretty has the frony.
Excellent advice! Everyone sees the world differently, we should use this to our advantage when creating something original.
+NarfCat, Absolutely. That's an advantage not a disadvantage.
Nice tip!
Glad you liked it
Amazing . Is it zig zag or straight stitch please !
It's straight stitch
Clara Nartey - Artist thank you so much
