First thing you seem to have a great attitude! This will help you a lot in your future. Number two you really seem to appreciate the people around you. That is so important when learning a new thing. People will be much more likely to give you the extra help when they feel that the person is receptive to it. Being humble, accepting responsibility when you do make a mistake, and relaying how you would do it better next time goes a long way with superiors. When you get a reputation of being honest and taking responsibility, when you do make a mistake, it usually isn't a big deal because people know that you are already thinking on how you could have done it better. You don't want any unforced errors so you need to be prepared with as much information on what to do or not to do as possible. As a firefighter on my first day I got to work early and made sure that I knew where everything on the rig was. The Captain quizzed me and the Reserve, who had been there for 4 months. I knew it better than he did on my first day. This was a win and how you can separate yourself for the competition. Also, you are going to make plenty of mistakes because you don't even know what you don't know. That's why you want to limit the mistakes on things you do know. I am sure that you know these things. However, there may be others that haven't realized these things. Being a firefighter in a major city is a dream jobs. Much like being a fighter pilot. Yet I have seen where people killed the golden goose, and didn't pass probation, because they didn't prepare for game day.

I'd rather have NO car payment and drive this vehicle into the ground. The first new vehicle I bought - I drove for 19 years; The next - 26 years.
