It could explain the conflicting accounts of history, they might BOTH be right but one is the history of the real world while the other is the history of its Mirror World counterparts. The Waves are one World entering the other to try and release either Rimuru or Emils after the heroes from the other World sealed him (with the names getting mixed up over the millennia if Emils was the one to be sealed).
