Customary Law Review Of Warrap State final
In South Sudan four out of five disputes are resolved before customary courts. Statutory channels for dispute resolution remained inaccessible for the general population.
Customary authorities are key actors in maintaining peace and stability in communities.
To strengthen the traditional justice systems in Warrap State, IOM gathered community members including women, youth, elders, and chiefs to ascertain and review the Wanh-alel -a customary law of Greater Gogrial community that was enacted in 1974.
Community members aired out their opinions about marriage, divorce and other matters in their community.
