These tables look badass. Can't wait to get one at some point when my shop is done.
Just subscribed, thanks for sharing
OUTSTANDING ; o .....
Also how about one you can use on the ceiling with e clip style attachment so it wont fall for heavy objects like tote racks kyaks or a light duty hoist for deer and elk you could incorporate unistrut track wth it for its 800 capacity trolly hoist abilities and still movable to fit needs
I would love a modular design that would allow for equipment storage like a table top saw sande or jointer that could store on a wall fixture stong enough for use
I'm with you. I think that would be great. The system is really only limited strength-wise by how well it is anchored to a wall. It will depend on whoever installs it I suppose. But we can design some sort of storage for those components. I'm just having a hard time imagining it. We could do something kind of like a cabinet where you hang plates with different tools on them, and then those plates could mount into a common stand or something? If you have other ideas in mind please feed them to me to get the creative juices flowing!
How about a heavy duty version to support a bench top with structural overhead for lights or dust collection equipment i often find that having movable bench tops adjustable free from floor support would be awesome for us diy people who don't own the property and move a lot you can take your benches with you flat pack style
We've already got prototypes for overhead light sorts of things that can attach to the system. So that is in the works. Dust collectors are a little heavier so we'll have to come up with something beefier than the unit for holding LED lights. I also dream of a fold up bench that can hang from the system. You can lift it into position when you want to use it, and then fold it down when you aren't. Is that kind of what you mean?
Have you actually sat down and tried to spec out your DIY options on the computer? Not user friendly, asks for options, no options to choose from?????? Interested in checking out your product and prices BUT I would like to use a platform that works. Sit down and try it.
This is a great DIY welding table. I will definitely need to save up to purchase one in the future. A suggestion for holding the nut in place would be to use some masking tape.
How about making the cabinet being modular. IE, The back is separate to where you key the sides in. Not only does the make easy to ship but allows you to change the depth of the cabinet, possibly even the height. All making an interchangeable system. Like you could take maybe a door that’s deep, kinda like the Uline bin storage cabinet or the Shadow Staging systems.
So, the way the cabinet is built currently, there are two heavy side panels which incorporate the hooks that allow for the mounting to the wall hanging tubing. Then, the top and bottom get riveted on. We can't really vary the height easily, though we could make it longer than the standard 40". We could certainly make doors that have more depth to them, but it still seems like you'd have to choose the depth when you purchase and it wouldn't really be variable after the fact? I should have mentioned though that we are planning on having multiple sizes and depths of cabinets! So that is totally possible. But I don't know how exactly we can make them more modular or expandable or something. I'll mention it to the team to see if we can figure anything out. But obviously if you have ideas please let me know!
Another fantastic idea. Infinite possibilities for organizing your work space. Love this John.
Nice
Love it! More various sized "side" plates like your "adapter" plate that you can fabricate your own custom holders/bins/etc. Also, are there slots on the front of the cabinet doors as well? Great work! Oh, TIG Rod holders...
We don't have slots on the front of the cabinet doors. I didn't think about that. I guess I would worry about things sticking out too far. But we could always offer optional or replacement doors with the slots on the outside if there is enough demand for them...
please fix the link to the diy that shows both the table and legs, your link in description goes to the leg only, this is misleading, i was wondering why it was so cheap.. no table..
Thanks for letting us know - we've had a LOT of changes going on recently and obviously some things slipped through the cracks!
I know the legs are strong enough, but it sure does look like the leg tubing is too thin and puny.
DIY Welding table Kits? Maybe Assamble your self Kits. DIY means DO IT YOURSELF. Meaning you have do it.. not buy a kit and assamble it. Jesus..
What welding process and filler metal / electrode do you recommend? Since you say in the comments already posted that the steel is A572 Grade 50, then I presume that a plain carbon steel ER70S-2 wire for GMAW, GTAW, or LLBW would be sufficient or an E7014 or E7018 electrode for SMAW? Also, you could use small magnets to fixture the threaded nuts.
Hello jhon!! What a good surprise when this video shows up on my list. Excellent job. Amazing table.
A drop of cyanoacrylate glue on the nuts will hold them in place long enough to start the bolt on the side skirts and wont be strong enough to interfere with them tightening up. I really like the tab design. I saw a guy making a weld together CNC gantry using tabs only he extended them trough slots all the way and then used a wedge to draw them tight before welding...Self fixturing is cool.
3:00 My man is so excited that he hit puberty again!
Can you show how much flex or twist the table has once it’s finished? For example put the table on a flat surface and start to lift one corner. How high does it go before the other corner starts to lift.
Yes. We'll do that on the follow up video. We'll weld it out and then do some testing. But keep in mind that even extremely heavy, thick tables can and will absolutely twist when stressed. This is why John wrote a blog post about the importance of leveling welding tables to get them flat: texasmetalworks.com/2023/11/21/why-you-should-level-your-welding-table/ This doesn't mean if you leave the table on casters it won't be ok. But it means if you have sophisticated enough equipment you can always measure a difference. But again we'll do some testing! So if there's anything else you want to see tested make sure and keep the requests coming and we will follow on the list!
My sense of annoyance at pronouncing it "drose" is way outsize to the actual thing
one onehundreth??? 5/16 th of an inch ?? well it's not pig's feet! , point zero one five inch !?? I don't mean to be that guy but professionals don't talk that way.
Since we're talking about low cost, DIY welding table kits I can't be throwing out terms like "15 thou" and stuff like that. These kits will be built by average people, often at home, so we need to speak a language everyone can understand. I'm always happy to get into a "professional" discussion about the merits of every single technical aspect of building these tables though! After founding the company and spending years building many thousands of tables I can hang with the best of them when need be, I promise. ;-)
mmmmmmmmmm....... short ribs......
You're making me hungry! :-)
5mm thick top ,,,, and thats as far as I got , Im out.
Not sure where you got the 5mm from? You also might not be in the US, but these are 1/4" thick top plates, which is 6.5mm. Some OTHER folks make kits out of 4.75mm, but not us. Also, don't forget we're talking about A572-50 plate. This is very tough material. The other important thing to remember is that we're not talking about just a 1/4" plate with legs. I know people are used to old fashioned tables and you need them to be thicker. But this is a 1/4" top that is supported by a bunch of 4" tall ribs, plus sidewalls. When properly built this thing can support 10,000lbs (not exaggerating). So if the overall engineered solution is flat enough, strong enough, and has all the holes you need to fixture what you need, there's no problem. Not in these DIY variants, but NASA, Tesla, the US Army, and MANY, MANY other very large institutions are using our heavier duty tables and they love them.
@@JohnP 6.35mm not 6.5, and presumably you mean 3/16" plate which is the closest standard size to 4.75mm but is actually 4.78mm
@@JohnP fully understand all of that , but talk it up all you like its still not 12mm .. The question I guess is does it need to be 12mm , well I guess the customers will vote with their cheque book , personally its not for me at 1/4 inch.
@@tomthompson7400 what you should be considering is which shape will flex more...a 1/2" A36 plate or a 1/4" A572 C channel with 4" sides? it is pretty basic structural engineering.
@@T0tenkampf its more about what a friction clamp will do to the point load ,, you basically missed the point [ load] totally ... next.
I wish you would of fully welded it out and measured it again. This would give the user a more realistic measurement.
Yeah, as you know the problem is even if we make it perfect in our shop it's no guarantee that people will be able to repeat that....
I still think you should do it. I mean it is a weld together kit. You can also include the time it takes from start to finish assembly.
You make a great point! I’ll do it! :-) I’ll find some time next week to do one start to finish, and then we’ll measure it with the laser and see what’s possible with the kit. I’ll try and do it as “basic” as possible to see how someone might expect it to turn out if they did it at home with no real proper surface to build it on. Will make for an interesting experiment…
Looking good so far. BTW, "dross" rhymes with "cross" not "gross"...
Duly noted! Thanks! :-)
I've heard it both ways. Who cares anyways?
@@kzanderardenflaas2238 Well nobody cares all that much. But the fact that you've heard it doesn't say anything about what's right. I've heard: "ekscape" for escape, "periphial" for peripheral, "loom" for loam, "shamfer" for chamfer, "nucular" for nuclear, and on and on. In the end, the people who get it wrong often eventually become so common that the accepted pronunciation changes. But that's a long process. And for now, if you say dross so it rhymes with gross, you just sound like someone who is unfamiliar with the word. Doesn't really inspire confidence...
@JohnP listen, nobody really cares how you say slag. Keep doing what you're doing.
I see where my nest table is coming from. And right here in my own back yard. Thanks guys. Is it possible to come by your facility?
If you had ANY clue how to solder you wouldn’t have failed that. I’m also blown away you thought soldering those pieces of metal together was a thing. When soldering- you get THE ITEM YOU WANT TO SOLDER HOT! You don’t shoot liquid solder onto something. Obviously. That’s day one
I'm a DIYer, so what size compressor will I need?
Great job, and a lot of work!
Nooo…. their not for this purpose their made to honor important ancestors and have cultural meaning. though I feel conflicted about it bc my ancestry and culture has been taken and used as decor or made into tourist attractions and made into their way of a “aesthetic” ext but ngl I do have to say it’s quite impressive good job! tho if you can make more but with the pukao and with the coral eyes and maybe some of the carved figures on the back would make it look 10x better but that’s just me I feel conflicted but yet I feel amazing at how it came out

such a great piece!
20v batteries are actually 18v they are only 20v straight off the charger
🗿: "damn thats my son"
In that you don't read instructions and don't know how to use some of these tools, I guess it's a fair reflection of how your average punter would react to these tools! I think you were aiming to take a 'not too serious' look at these tools and it is definitely worth the watch - thank you. I think these Chinese ' knock offs' can be great value for money (I own quite a lot, mostly based around electronics and woodwork) but you ideally need to have a bit of experience, know what to expect and be prepared to live with their shortcomings. A few points: I would guess there are no spares available for any of these products and no after sales support (not sure if there is a meaningful 12 month guarantee??) so you have to be prepared to junk these tools if they develop a fault. On the super inexpensive tools we would all take a chance, but on the more expensive ones it's worth bearing in mind. Dealer networks and service centers are expensive and in my lifetime I have returned several main brand tools for repair under guarantee. That saved me many hundreds of pounds. The orange compressor is a ripoff of Makita DMP180Z but, unlike the Makita the trigger latches - you have to continually hold the trigger with the Makita. All hot melt guns take an age to warm up. A meaningful test would be to directly compare this to a name brand model. I would say it looks pretty good. I would agree, you certainly don't know how to solder! You could never solder those steel plates without a gas torch and it was a totally pointless and unfair test. The little fan looks like a desk fan and I would not expect it to be able to develop hurricane wind speeds. It would be ideal to blow away soldering fumes when you learn to solder! The two important tests with the pump would have been how many liters per minute it would pump and what head of pressure it would lift. That it can get you wet really doesn't prove much! Thanks again for the reviews.
Looks very well done, though i wonder how hot that thing is gonna get in our famous Texas sun. Time to make fried eggs.

Sorry! We just did a website migration to an entirely updated site! And the new blog posts got missed in the process. They are being migrated NOW, so give us like 1 hour max from when I post this comment and it should be up. Just bad timing. ;-)
20 volt batteries are actually only at 20 volts straight off the charger. They are really 18 volts nominally (just like Ryobi and Milwaukee). Saying they're 20 volt batteries is marketing BS and is actually illegal in many countries. The number on the inverter is different because it includes the parasitic draw from your kill a watt. Plus, it's likely inaccurate to begin with...
That explains a lot.
Not finding the links to these products and the ones you say are on the blog link.
Sorry, as I commented below, we upgraded our website and missed transferring part of the content to the new site. It's coming shortly, so within the hour that blog post should be up with all the links...
That power inverter is healla cheap compared to the power station
Yeah! That's what I thought! But I will say the DeWalt power station does like 1800 watts, vs the 350 on this thing. But I was still impressed...
Great project 👍👍👍👍
He’s cool but… Oscar?
