What you describe as “gnostic” doctrine sounds like western “church” theology! I can elaborate if anyone is interested!

I really don't understand how so many people who presume to knowledgeably teach 1 JOHN, yet fail to sufficiently research the primary reason the book was written. I've listened to some credentialed scholars who fail to even MENTION Gnosticism while teaching 1 JOHN. If they would simply examine the book with even a cursory knowledge of Gnosticism, they would see how the major points make such perfect sense!

Mt Sinai is the place where God, whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), made a covenant with Abraham's descendants to form the nation of Israel (and through which the promised Messiah would arrive in 29 C.E.), giving them a constitution of some 600 laws, and remaining there for about one year, 1513-1512 B.C.E. while the tabernacle with its utensils and altars were being built (Ex chpts 25-40), after having been ' enslaved and afflicted by Egypt for 400 years ' (Gen 15:13, 14), that began when 19 year old Ishmael mocked five year old Isaac.(Gen 21:8-10) Some 2 1/2 months after leaving Egypt, the Israelites arrived at Mt Sinai.(Ex 19:1) Upon arrival at Mt Sinai, "Moses went up to the true God, and Jehovah called to him from the mountain, saying: "This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and to tell the Israelites, ‘ You have seen for yourselves what I did to the Egyptians (with the ten plagues and the destruction of Pharaoh and the Egyptian army at the Red Sea, Ex chpts 7-14), in order to carry you on wings of eagles and bring you to myself. Now if you will strictly obey my voice and keep my covenant, you will certainly become my special property out of all peoples, for the whole earth belongs to me. You will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites."(Ex 19:3-6) Once the Israelites left Mt Sinai, they never returned, for it was just one location of some 18 different locations where the Israelites traveled (and stopped) in the wilderness on the way to the land of Canaan. Had the Israelites shown faith in Jehovah, instead of taking 40 years to reach their "home", they would have been there in a little over a year. But because they lacked faith in Jehovah, Psalms 95 states: "Come, let us shout joyfully to Jehovah !......For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep in his care. Today if you listen to his voice, do not harden your heart as at Merʹi·bah, as in the day of Masʹsah in the wilderness, when your forefathers tested me (Ex 17:1-7); They challenged me, though they had seen my works (or miracles of the ten plagues and their salvation from Pharaoh and the Egyptian army, Ps 136:13-15). For 40 years I felt a loathing toward that generation, and I said: “They are a people who always go astray in their hearts; They have not come to know my ways.” So I swore in my anger: “They will not enter into my rest.”(Ps 95:1, 7-11) The apostle Paul wrote at Hebrews 3 concerning the Israelites lack of faith, quoting from Psalms 95, and saying: "Beware, brothers, for fear there should ever develop in any one of you a wicked heart lacking faith by drawing away from the living God; but keep on encouraging one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you should become hardened by the deceptive power of sin (or lack of faith in Jehovah)."(Heb 3:12, 13) Paul now says: "For we actually become partakers of the Christ (or become an anointed one as one of "the body of Christ", see Eph 1:13, 14, that numbers 144,000, see Rev 7:4; 14:1-3) only if we hold firmly down to the end the confidence we had at the beginning. As it is said, “Today if you listen to his voice, do not harden your hearts as on the occasion of provoking to bitter anger.”(Heb 3:14, 15)
