No nothing, there are a lot of sand flies on the beach but didn’t see or hear about anyone getting bit or bothered by them.

@Selley61 thank you so much, I've seen alot of bad trip adviser reviews coming up about mosquitoes. We are there over xmas😁. Any tips or suggestions?

@@doodles3075 The hotel and food a very good The only thing I would say as a negative was that the evening entertainment wasn’t that good and the hotel bar closed about 10:30 and there wasn’t anywho to get a drink after then unless you went over to the night club which wasn’t really our thing I does lack a sports bar or piano bar but it didn’t spoil the holiday for us There was a casino but it was all closed up when we were there It may be open now or changed into a sports bar. ???? If that was the case it would be good

Yes we’re probably going again in Feb/March We went before about 10 years ago and wasn’t all that keen but gave it a second chance and it was brilliant The food, beer , wine was fine Hotel is fantastic now it’s had a full refurbishment And you can get away without spending anything unless you do excursions or for to the local beach bars Don’t read any of the negative stuff it’s a great hotel and setup You’ll love it This vid was filmed just with a GoPro 8 in 4k Just treated myself to a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 that I’ve just used on a 3 week Florida trip That’s a great camera but you can’t use it in water Gopro are very good only downside is lack of zoom Enjoy your holiday If you got any more questions just ask And thanks for the comment on the vid The idea was to show all the different areas of the hotel 👍

@@Selley61 thx guys great info and feedback, that perola de chaves beach bar is my kind of place and will spend a good bit of time their as long as my legs can handle the walk lol, take care and look forward to more vids if possible.ps did you do any excursions and if so what would you recommend .

@@markburgess-us7ox We didn't do any excursions as we just wanted to chill for a week, but others were doing the quad bike tours and said they were great so we may do one of them in Feb/March. The walk to the beach bar was fine and the sea by there seemed a bit calmer and easier to swim in so you can make a day or half day there im sure. There was also some beach hut along the walk with local souvenir sellers selling their bit, but in fairness they dont pester or try to call you in. The sea outside the Hotel was a bit choppy but we all know that before we go. Were doing 11 nights in Feb 👍

Hi Ben There is a very brief tour of the room at 1:20 into the video, the rooms were spot on to be fair, maid service every day and the rooms are very up to date and modern, showers were lovely and always plenty of hot water which can be a problem at some hotels. We didnt fly on the Dreamliner because the airport runway is too short. If you’re booked you’ll have a great time. If your thinking of booking, do it it’s a great hotel and resort, the only negative is the sea can be rough and be red flag possibly for your whole stay but don’t let that put you off.

Hi For the first time ever on holiday we didn’t have a single bite And to be fair we didn’t see many people with bites but we did take B1 vitamins for 2 weeks before we went so maybe that helped It was also October when we were there Hope you have a lovely holiday 👍

How long of a drive from there to resort... or do you have to take another flight from there to SDQ airport

Hi the alcohol was fine, I was drinking the beer and the wife the wine and it was fine, obviously most of the stuff is their now brand but I think you could ask for sanded and they would give it if they had it, I did have their rum most nights late on and again it was fine. Everything about the hotel is great, don't take notice of any negative reviews , just go there and have a great time. I hope my video shows that anyway 🤞👍

Thanks, I did try to show all the different areas and activities and summarise everything about the hotel. It’s a fantastic resort and we couldn’t fault anything, all the reviews that try to say that the service is poor and hygiene is poor is just ridiculous. Rooms are spotless food as brilliant and the drinks are fine. The only thing I would say is true is the swim up pools are a bit messy, but we just stayed away from them 🤷‍♂️ You will have an amazing time 👍👏

We have been twice to Boa Vista and loved it.Went to this beautiful hotel on May with friends had a fantastic time .But should have been going back in February but made a decision to change the holiday .The only thing stopping us going back to the beautiful island is the hospital .Its a 2 hour flight to Tenerife for other than a minor injury. So such a shame but made me rethink.

It is towards the capital Sal Rie we went passed it on a trip out very tiny.They have one but Tui informed us they don't have facilities like in most countries. Thats the only time in all the years we have travelled it has been mentioned to us by a tour operator. So 10 million travel insurance cover won,t be any use to me if it was a serious un expected 🤔 life threatening situation. Having to travel 2 hours for treatment no one would stand a chance .

Yeh the sea was the only negative really but it didn’t spoil it for us We’ve booked Florida for next summer but also looking at a trip to Turkey

Mosquitos weren’t a problem There are a lot of sand flies on the beach but they didn’t bother us and didn’t have any bites from them but they do look unwelcoming

With respect to the orignal comment, the water is very swimable, just gets murky from very sandy beaches being disturbed, such is nature @@Selley61 . Jesus what on earth do people expect for this type of affordable vacation in a poor country?

Hi In general it's lovely, the main negative is the sea, it's not clear like other resorts but it is warm and safe. Its not a resort where you can wander off site as there is nowhere to go unless you take a taxi to the nearest Town but we never did that as we were content with being either poolside or on the beach chilling for 2 weeks. Swim up bar was great and the entertainment team work their butts off all day if you want to get involved in pool activities. Food was lovely and they did try to vary it as much as possible. We went to the themed restaraunts but to be honest they weren't any better than the main buffet, the main buffet was very good. We only went on one excursion and that was to Catolina, we spoke to the team on the beach that hire out the water activity stuff and they do the trips to both islands but they recommended Catolina as it was a shorter coach and boat ride, and it was brilliant, it was also a lot cheaper than the Tui Rep prices. Other points to be mindful of are the main bar closes at 10:30 - 11:00and you can't get a drink after that unless you go over to the Village and the only place to get a drink there is the night club/Disco which was very loud, were just 60 and it was too loud for us so we mainly got a few drinks in before 10:30. Stage entertainment was ok if you like dancing, I won't say much more than that. It really lacks a sports bar or piano bar where you can get a drink a little later or want a change of scenery.There was a small casino but it was closed and looked like it was having a make over so that may be open when you go. When we checked in at reception they did offer us to upgrade to Bouganville for about $600/700 but glad we didn't as I don't feel there was much difference and Bouganville have to come to the Grand for the evening entertainment and the Village is shared between both sides. Tipping was optional and you don't feel obligated to tip at all the service is exactly the same if you tip or not, we generally tipped $2 each time we went to the bar or $3 if we had the drinks brought to us, we left $5 for the maid a couple of time and that did seem to get us nicer towels and some towel art on the bed. The rooms are a good size and the beds were comfy and large, only issue we had with the room was the hot water was not vey hot at all, certainly not hot enough if you want to fill the bath, I did complain 5 times and to Tui Rep who escalated to the Hotel Manager and it was fixed for 1 day then returned to being just Luke warm, it appears that there is an issue with hot water on the complex, so I hope its fine while your there. That's as honest a review as I can give, in general it's very good and you make the best of what they have. Happy to answer any other questions, hope you have a lovely time.

I think sometimes certain people from different countries expectations are different from others. The pictures in the brochures are often taken by a drone just after sunrise when nobody is around so the sea is undisturbed over night. Once people start to swim in these very sandy areas the sea beaches get disturbed unfortunately, thus the murkiness unfortunately.

Yes to water in at the Hotel is murky and I do show that lots of times The Island we show is Carolina not Saona

A big NO to the original comment, it was indeed Catalina Island that this couple visited in the depicted video, they should know as they paid for this excursion from their resort.. I've also been there before on a cruise port of call so I can confirm, just lovely. I understand Sonana Island is another excursion that can be arranged from La Romana and just as impressive although the island is larger. BTW you two look great! Sherry, Toronto Canada @@Selley61
