Hi, I think I am relatively new to your channel, but I have subscribed. I really appreciate this list & your suggestions! I have been to Japan 10 times pre-Covid and twice since. My wife & I are considering some ways to stay longer than our usual 2 or 3 weeks, but not move permanently (however, ideally figure out a way to be connected to do some work while we are there with our careers in USA). We're thinking of likely staying 3 months at AirB&Bs. OK, sorry for the long intro, but one of the places we are considering that you did not mention was Okayama. From my experience it's a castle town, with a super famous traditional garden, plus a 10 minute train ride to Kurashiki -- a very charming historical town recreation that we'd likely take friends & family to if they visited us. We have also been to Takamatsu in the Seto Inland Sea and loved it there as well, but this is getting too long so I won't bore you with the Takamatsu "whys". I'd love to hear your thoughts on Okayama & Takamatsu, thanks!

At that time, the survey only counted islands with coastlines of 100 meters or more that were shown on paper maps. On February 28, 2023, the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan announced that the number of islands had been updated to 14,125 through a recount using digital maps. Since there is no international standard for counting islands, only islands with a coastline of 100 meters or more were counted, as in the past. According to the GSI, advances in surveying technology and the detailed representation of topographic features through digital mapping contributed to this announcement.'
