GASGAS EX350F - DESERT SINGLE TRACK RIDE REVIEW
Testing out a friends 2023 GasGas EX350F. Other riders are Tim (Ktm 300xcw) and Lisa (Ktm 150xcw). We are riding Mile Marker 14; desert single track, double track, washes, and hills to see if the 350 can hang in 2-stroke territory. I am a C+ rider, I can ride technical terrain, and I can ride easy stuff fast, but I can't ride technical terrain fast.. something to work on lol.
To my surprise it did well, only struggled where my skill level fell off.. so rider error. The 4-stroke was a blast to ride and felt easier to go fast with little to no throttle arm pump. My clutch hand was fairly tired at the end of the ride.

Invited by some awesome friends to join them on a journey to Cleator, AZ.. the back way. I've been to Cleator before (the front easy way) a few years ago when I first started riding. This trip was gnarly and full of adventure! Lot's of neat things to see along the way and the DRZ was a work horse! It's truly incredible what you can see on a dual sport bike. Total distance was just over 45 miles...

The HOLY GRAIL of Fun Fast Flowy Arizona Single Track

Found this loop after joining ATR (Arizona Trail Riders) and decided to try to re-trace it solo. Got about 20 miles of really fun easy flowy single track. I'm not Max Gerston so if you like speed.. this is not that lol. I am working on getting faster and like to push myself and ride with faster riders. Always try to improve and push yourself, try something challenging. Thanks for watching!

After watching parts of your video, you would have no trouble on the back way Crown King. Just my opinion.
Looks fun . Im looking for a way to Prescott from near Phoenix. I want to get my DR 650 up to my new place in ash fork using back roads .
Maybe in a flat dessert, lol Try single tracking on hills. You won't last 2 hours on that thing.
2024 model looks WAY BETTER than 2025 one.
Best DRZ rider I’ve ever seen 😉
What gearing are you running on your DRZ? Up until this past year (2024 riding season) I was running 14/47, which was perfect for technical terrain. I switch back to stock (15/44) since I primarly do dirt roads on my DRZ now, and very little trail riding.
@@DualSportDoug 14/44, for this ride it was just about perfect. I’d be interested to try 14/47. I think my top speed is about 75-80 mph with this gearing but out here on the fast fire roads I won’t go over 65 mph. Where did you ride with that low gearing? Thanks for watching!
@@desertdrz7618 I ride in Washington and occasionally in Northern Idaho, a lot of fire roads. Up until this year, single track too. 14/47 is perfect on single track. If you still want to go 65mph +, stick with what you have. 14/47 limits my top speed to about 50-55mph. I do single track on my KTM 450 now, so that's why I went back to 15/44 on my DRZ. I've had my DRZ since 2006.
I'm picking up a 2025 DR-Z4S. I'll have to try that route.

Coming from Colorado to Prescott January 19. Will this be rideable (snow) and is there a map kiosk on site to look at/take a photo of?
Also considering riding camp Verde. Is it worth the extra drive from Chino Valley?
Camp Wood?
Nice, welcome to AZ. It depends on the weather. There isn’t snow up there right now but if it rains in Phoenix most likely snow in Prescott. Alto Pit is a fun play area but if you head to the White Hills in camp verde you’ll see it’s a much larger area and if you like single track I think the trip would be worth it. I have 2 videos showing the White Hills. Google AZ Ohv trails and you’ll come across good information. I’d recommend using the ‘All Trails’ app or onX offroad.
@@desertdrz7618 Thanks for the info!
Nice 😂
Alright, kid, let me tell you something: that hill ain’t just a pile of dirt-it’s a challenge, and it’s calling your name. I’ve been there, staring down a climb that looks bigger than my guts, but here’s the truth: you’ve got what it takes. You just need to believe it. -The Bike is Built for This That machine under you? It’s got the power, the torque, and the grip to eat that hill for breakfast. You don’t need to wonder if it can do it; you just need to make it happen. -You’ve Got More Skills Than You Think I’ve been watching you, and you’re no rookie. You’ve got the basics, and this hill? It’s just another chance to sharpen ‘em. Trust what you’ve already learned and build on it. -What’s the Worst That Could Happen? You stall out? You slide back a bit? So what? That’s dirt biking, kid. You fall, you get back up, and next time you crush it. But if you never try, you’re just letting that hill win without a fight. Here is what i do. Approach with confidence, Get a good run-up, pick your line, and go in knowing you’ve got this. Confidence makes all the difference. Let the bike move beneath you. Adjust as you go, and don’t panic if it gets a little bumpy. That’s part of the ride. Don’t get stuck staring at the ground or the ruts. Keep your eyes on where you want to be-the crest of that hill. That’s your goal. Every great rider started by tackling their first big hill. You’ve got the guts and the gear-now you just need to take the leap. Get up there and make that climb yours. And when you’re sittin’ at the top looking down, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
What’s your background?
Ah kid, you're givin it a go, and I respect that, but lemme tell ya something: there’s a finesse to this game you’re missin’ it. Sit tight and listen up-this ain’t my first rodeo. -Body Position is King You’re sittin’ too much, kid. Get up on those pegs! Keep your weight slightly forward, knees loose, and elbows up. That bike's gotta feel like an extension of you, not like you're fightin' it. -Eyes on the Prize Don’t stare at your front tire, boy! Look where you want to go. Your body follows your eyes, and your bike follows your body. -Throttle Control You’re jerkin’ that throttle like it owes you money. Smooth it out. Feather it when you’re climbing or maneuvering tight spots. Control’s the name of the game, not brute force. -Momentum is Your Friend Don’t stop when you hit tough spots. Roll through. Use that engine’s torque to your advantage. Stopping mid-trail is how you dig yourself into a rut-literally. -Clutch and Throttle Harmony Kid, you're just yankin' on those bars. That ain't a wheelie; that's a tantrum. Pop the clutch smooth and give it just enough throttle to bring the front end up gently. -Balance Point is Key The bike's got a sweet spot where gravity and power meet. Learn it. Start low and get a feel for how far you can go without over-cooking it. -Rear Brake is Your Lifeline That back brake ain't just decoration. Tap it if you’re going too far back-it’ll save your hide. Get used to the motion while practicing. -Commit to the Wheelie Half-measures will land you on your butt or stuck in the dirt. Once you pop it, find your rhythm and hold it steady. Now, take all that, chew on it a bit, and try again. And remember, the bike don’t make the rider; the rider makes the bike. Go make me proud, kid.
@@WayneCampbell-u3i appreciate the feedback sir! That’s a lot of good info. Definitely working on a lot of what you said, I’m a C rider didn’t start riding until just a couple years ago and now I’m addicted. Follow me on my journey to become better! I try to get out as much as possible. Check out some of my old vids from a year ago it’s hard to watch lol.
That is how you loop it not the gas too much or else you’re gonna have a painful trip to the hospital

Now this looks like some fun single track. I need to go out in that area and find this. 🤙
Go get a bike dude, I’m learning and I have awesome teachers to ride with. I do these videos not for the views but to see my improvement over time. Go back to my video called Christmas Eve Ride.. exactly 1 year ago. I think I’ve improved quite a bit. I didn’t start riding dirt bikes until just a few years ago and started out going maybe once a month. Now im addicted to it and love riding. Hope to finish top tier C-class this year and move up to B-class next year. Always learning.
Tap the rear brake(adjust it tight ) as you pull in the clutch to bring the front end down. I rode at lower RPMs than you do, it always sounds like you need to upshift. I can wheelie in the first four gears and upshift to keep the front end up if the bike isn't a dog, by feathering the clutch. well, at least I used to. Your videos make me wish I had a dirt bike. Climbing hills, try not to let off it and downshift quickly before any rpm bogging. Like sand, when you let off it's like quicksand is sucking your bike to a stop. I was never really fast but I liked riding wheelies, even up hills. Those downhills, I went from first gear brake locking technique to up shifting and jumping my bike off any little ledge/bump like a downhill skier as time and skills got better. It's mostly a psychological thing. Just trying to give you some tips. That Enduro thing is new, years ago it was ADRA desert racing or motocross. With my dad it was TT racing also at Manzanita Speedway many many years ago. sorry to ramble.
go faster!

2016 Drz-400 for $4k or a 2017 EXC-F 500 for $5k? What should I do!
I need more information.. the ktm is pretty old and if it has a lot of miles/hours on it you might have to do a rebuild soon $$$ the performance of a stock exc blows the drz out of the water, however just as I discussed in the video the drz is plenty capable to have fun on plus the reliability factor is huge.
wait for 2025, drz iz getting updated, and competition have some other stuff too
Thoughts on the new drz?
Watch the video and hear my thoughts!
Always good stuff out there, either side of the road.
You ride like you're on a four-stroke, with such low RPMs. I feel sorry for your bike's clutch. I don't stop on hills I gas on it. You made and that's what counts.
What makes you qualified to speak on this old man?
@fieldsandfriends4725 I guess I talk too much but it's obvious when you listen to the bike and see it stalling out and stopping in the middle of climbing a hill more than once. He does have a four stroke bike before hopping on this two stroke. Years of riding is how I can see/hear all of this. But yeah I should shut up.
