How to paraphrase in IELTS Speaking - IELTS Speaking Part 1 - Band 7
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.3 года назад
Today my friend Leo joins me in showing you how to paraphrase in IELTS Speaking (Part 1). Like many of my students, he wasn’t sure how or what to paraphrase. Paraphrasing is actually quite simple, especially if you’re aiming for an upper-intermediate band (6-7). You don’t need to show a perfect use of paraphrase, and you also don’t need to paraphrase nouns in questions. A great example of this ...
IELTS Speaking 2021 topic: Home country

This is a newly added topic for the 2021 January - April season. Your home country. Think about what you like about your country. Are you proud to be from your country? And are most people also proud to be from your country? Learn a couple of things about your country’s history if you don’t know it. Do you have a sense of national pride? If you’d like to view my full post about this topic, you ...
IELTS Speaking Part 1 - Core Topic: Work
Просмотров 6573 года назад
This is one of the core topics in IELTS Speaking. You’ll either be asked about your Work, Study, Hometown or Home when Part 1 begins. Many candidates ‘overprepare’ these core topics, which can make their answers sound rehearsed (memorized) as if they are repeating answers they’ve written down at home. After listening to my own answers, I feel that most of the language I used is appropriate for ...

    This is gold.....love it and I've already used it twice! I have similar strategies broken down like this.... The S.E.E. or S.E.Xy method for writing arguments in task 2....the OTTT for writing overviews....the 4WH for Task 1 intros.... The I.P.D.O.F. for speaking part 2.....I've taught so many online IELTS lessons recently that I ended up singing them to the students and making stupid songs.....daft, but jeez do they remember.....I'll link up anyone that's interested.

      "so we decided to go out n' grab a bite to eat" --- "peckish" means slightly hungry --- "grab a bite (to eat)" is an idiom which means have a small or quick meal (in British English, we almost always link +to eat) Hope this helps.

    Hi, Mr. Can I ask you a rather irrelevant question. I saw one of the Ielts teachers repeatedly using the word "decadent" for food to mean "delicious". Is it natural? because I can't find any reliable source when looking it up on the web,

    • @IELTS123
      @IELTS123 3 года назад

      When collocated with food, it means that the food is luxurious or self-indulgent. Though it's rare to use the word in everyday spoken English, I suppose it's fine to say situationally. We'd typically just use any strong, positive adjective instead (amazing, fantastic, etc). Unless of course, you're speaking about foods like truffles, caviar or extremely rich chocolates then go for it (but how often do you talk about luxurious foods like truffle or caviar?)
