After the first few days on set, I've found my groove and I'm in the swing, raring to go. When we wrap? I'm totally taking advantage of down time to be with my children! As you, I have a few 'side hustles' as COVID has reinforced that anything can happen and we can suddenly be in serious financial jeopardy <3

Hiya Dawn!...I'm 2 years in...Covid hit and I haven't increased by portfolio by much, sadly. Nevertheless, still keeping up with training!! Could you tell me if you're using a digital program and if so, which one?I trained on ScriptE and, well, the way my mind operates isn't conducive to the way this platform works, overall. Therefore, I'm currently up to speed and proficient in Movie Slate 8 (and have guided others with this platform) which I absolutely love. NOTHING beats pencil and paper, however; and I use a cross-process because I feel most confident using paper scripts to line and make notes....Thank you and all the best to you!!

I totally agree with the PowerPoint presentation. Moreover, I think there should be a comprehensive script supervisor video on RUclips. I recently found out that an indie film was going into production without a script supervisor, so I asked for a meeting with the director so I could tell them what a script supervisor is and everything that the script supervisor does. The one good video that I’ve found (I think by Vanity Fair?) only scratched the surface of what We do.

To anyone reading the comments I want to recommend a negotiating book that has helped me through successful negotiations - its called Never Split the Difference. A youtube channel I'd recommend too is Charisma on Command. I support what Dawn is saying about beating our own drum, knowing the value of the things we do on set, gaining confidence with negotiations and practice negotiating with other script supervisors. It's up to us to get it. Thanks Dawn!

What are the most fun things you have requested? I asked for my own gold room once and I got it! It had a couch and coffee table too. I loved having somewhere to go at lunch to close the door and be peaceful

I was invited to speak on What Script Supervisors Do to a group of producers and directors and others at WIFT-Atlantic Canada at the end of this month and I will be incorporating how and why Additional and Apprentice Script Supervisors are used in my talk, and will continue educating as many as possible on this. So far, the only time I have brought it up is in negotiations with LPs, but you are right, it's the higher level producers we should be discussing this with since we often have their ear.

Our sunsets are the BEST here in New Mexico :) I never want to leave.

My dad always says, "No matter what they first offer you, flinch." He knew a fella that used to sell dentures back in the 60's. He would tell the potential customer, "And the cost is... "$1000..." If they customer didn't flinch, he would add, "...for the uppers. And $1000 for the lower teeth." If the customer said, "$1000, oh goodness, that's expensive!" he wouldn't go any further. If I ever work again, I'll call it a camera fee. Someday I'd like to make a per-camera rate, and not just a bump!

Very insightful and good knowledge to have. I don’t attend the meetings because I’m still a full time film student pursuing a BFA in screenwriting so it’s hard to make time for the meetings right now. In any case, I was wondering on protocol for accepting jobs. More specifically, a job where a script supervisor was fired. I was an assistant script supervisor on an expensive shoot and the person over me was let go. The producer pulled me aside and asked me to step up since I had the same experience. Later when I talked about the incident, a couple of seasoned script supervisors said that they wouldn’t have accepted the job. Are there other situations where we should politely decline? How should we properly navigate situations like that?
