Andrew James Safioleas

Andrew James Safioleas is a pianist, violinist, composer, lyricist, educator, and author, currently located in the Quincy, MA area. A 2020 recipient of the Steinway and Sons Top Music Teacher Award, he teaches piano and violin privately to all ages and performs the instruments at weddings and special events. Safioleas was a violinist with the Fall River Symphony Orchestra for numerous years. He sat on its Board of Directors and was the Personnel Manager. At the forefront of his interests are teaching and community involvement. He founded, coordinated, and maintained the charity fundraiser concerts that took place at the James Arnold Mansion in New Bedford, MA. A radio interview in October 2016 was conducted by WGBH of Greater Boston to highlight his street performance in the "Play Me, I'm Yours" Art Project.

Harborside Melody, Op. 4
Harborside Melody was inspired by several visits to the south end beaches of New Bedford, Massachusetts. It is a duet for violin and piano, dedicated to Mrs. Kathy Baptiste, Safioleas’s former high school math teacher. She used to tell him stories about how she would play piano, and her father would drown her out on the violin-to comfort her-because she did not have confidence in her playing ability. It is deeply expressive and provides a vivid image of the waves of the ocean. The violinist presents a dominating and passionate-yet distressing-melody.
