Franz Schubert - Piano Sonata No.21, 1st movt. D.960 performed by Clara Haskil
Schubert's last composition. He died two months later at the age of 31. I am convinced the course of music history would have taken a different path if Schubert had lived longer. What a loss to the world. But we are lucky to have as many of his works as we have. Recordings: So many artists have recorded this sonata. Their interpretations differ tremendously. My favorites so far: Schnabel, Haskil, Sokolov, Richter. I have posted Haskil because fewer people might be aware of hers.

Overwhelming performance! One doesn't need the score, everynote can be heard clearly, as can all aspects of this touching and devine, dramatic and poetic elements of this sonata.

J think two great Piano Sonatas in first : Schubert D 960 so Chopin op35-2 after Beethoven Lizst etc . ..
