Buddhisms definition is enlightenment, and if there are people who have said that women shouldnt become Bhikshunis , have not reached that level of meditation and enlightenment to actually move past these mental barriers . But thats okay , these men are also on a path , i do hope that attain the peace that they look for in the future . Also , women if they look even a little deeper inside themselves they find themselves at peace , because all they want is independence in life , they need peace and sustainability, that is all . But all are the same , and everyone will move in their own pace . And we have to stand for ourselves . At the end of the day the truth cant hide for long .
Monks in Thailand are not teaching Buddha Dharma. They become monks just to get merits...
Buddha said that there is no "I,you,he,she, female and male“. All are nothing.
I'm Bhuddist I'm agree to have Bhikkunis
One would think that, in the West, this would be illegal?
The first Buddhist monks in history were Indian, and soon there were also Western Buddhist monks from Greece. They lived in different corners of the Persian Empire long before Alexander the Great, and centuries before the Theravada lineage came to be. So “Westerners” are not late arrivals to Buddhism and, as anybody else involved in this unfortunate issue, have the right to have a say.
I'm Bhikkhuni Thulananda very nice.i'm farm India.Nagpur.
15:10 What beautiful words! The dhamma lives.
The bhikkuni order must continue its revival in Thailand!! The Buddha allowed for the establishment of the world's first female monastic order for a reason!!
Thank you so much 🙏 I'm only been digging Theravada Budhism for three years almost from scratch, but this question about discrimination has been troubling me a lot. Ajahm Brahm did what just had to be done, knowing that he was going to be severely punished by many of his peers, and for that, certainly he do not want to be that, but he is a true Hero. The explanation that thai nuns and lay women are ok with how the things are, and they do not want to change it, is a perfect example of the so called Stocholm Syndrome, a millenary example
Thank you for helping the dogs! You are there Angel 😇 soooo happy you were able to open the new sanctuary!

While I agree with the theme that dogs should NOT be eaten, this video lost me in the first few minutes because it's near IMPOSSIBLE to get rabies from eating rabid animals. That claim is so baseless and stupid that I simply cannot take this seriously at all. Yes it's messed up to eat dogs, but with the amount of strays in England, USA, and Eastern Europe, it's interesting that this woman chooses this specific place to showcase animal cruelty. No matter how you look at it, this video and whole production has a weird western-overlordy feel to it. I prefer Louis Theroux's non racially charged doc abt dogs &our relationship with them over this dribble.
Right! It came off like a first world Karen telling 3rd world folk how to live. Look around you lady, these people don't eat dogs because they want to.
I’m a Buddhist and never knew there was gender bias!!!! I thought it was all equal!!!! As a lay man, I’m willing to listen to and follow any monk or nun who practices and teaches the word of Buddha.
Shame on men 😡 even in here is gender discrimination 🤮😑 utterly disgusting 🤮 I thought only in Buddhism there is no gender discrimination but it proves me wrong 😑 even I was thinking of converting to Buddhism from that nonsense Islam but I think all are same 🤮 everywhere is Gender discrimination 😡🤮😑 so this proves that religion is created by men 😡 to control women 😡 fuck religion 🖕 bloody patriarchal society 😑😡🤮😤
Sādhu Sādhu Sādhu 🌈😇
As much as this video talks about the discrimination of women I feel another kind of discrimination in this video. A racial discrimination. Because it was back in 1996 that Srilankan Buddhist monks started giving ordination to nuns. They still do it on an annual basis. But it is not mentioned here. Every other country which has it established now received it from Srilanka. It is important to avoid all kinds of discrimination as Buddhists. Not just gender. - A Theravada Buddhist nun from Srilanka.
Can European women ordain in Sri Lanka? is there a forest tradition with female nuns there?

Thank you for this wonderful film. “Discrimination…call it by its proper name”. Quite. Perhaps we might reflect on the karmic links to misogyny and violence against women?
Namobuddhay namodhammay namosanghay
Pt 2 please
There is no difference in Pragna in the Gender. There are both women and men who are excellent in their understanding of the world created by the 6 senses. Just because one was born a woman or a man is not a qualification to prove one is higher than the other. It's the inferiority complex in human nature which has affected nearly almost the whole human population that creates discrimination, unhappiness, wars, crimes and all societal prob;ems.Buddha showed how to be free of all those defilements and delusions and to become a proper 'Human' - not just Normal but Super Normal. All barriers disappear in this understanding and mindset. After all, Buddha's Sasana belongs to Buddha and after his Parinirvana the right belongs to Dhamma. So what decisions, rules in Vinaya that Buddha has made cannot be changed by anybody. Protection, safeguarding and practicing Dhamma is the responsibility of Bhikkus, Bhikkunis, Upasakas & Upasikas irrespective of their station in the Path towards Nibbana. Basically, it is the responsibility of every Buddhist. There is 'No need' for permission to get from anyone to have a Bhikkuni Sangha, as Buddha has done it already. It is an 'Understatement' if one says that "if Buddha is here today that he will definitely give the permission" . There are no 'Ifs' and Buts' Why is this doubt and speculation? A Buddhist is some one who can speak fearlessly, the 'Truth' and talk about the 'Reality'. Ajahn Brahm has done an excellent service, a yeoman service, to Buddha Sasana by supporting Bhikkhuni Sasana, in his own strength, clear understanding and far sight, which is 'Noteworthy'. The Simple Truth is that Sangha is incomplete without Bhikkuni sector. Buddhist Sangha consists of the four fractions; Bhikku, Bhikkuni, Upasaka, Upasika. Those who oppose to Bhikkuni Sasana should be ashamed of themselves and they are not fit for the Human Society, let alone to Buddha Sasana/Sangha. 🙏🙏🙏
A small world in a big world. Not all monks attained Nibanna. Its the End that matters. Let it be.

25:37 "its just a very minor phenomenon in this country" I wonder if he would feel the same way if he had been told that he could not be a Bhikku because he was white and not Thai.
the guy's comment at 8:10 "we cant push the issue too far because then there won't be acceptance in the long run" is simply wrong. Push the issue, get women ordained, then let the men worry about weather or not they can wrap their little conservative heads around the idea of Buddha sanctioned gender equality
Sahdu Sahdu Sahdu 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Crikey, they'll be wanting to vote next!

It’s not forgotten! But for a female to ordain as a monk it super complex and very hard to follow the rules and regulations as a female monks. Male monks the rules and regulations are already hard to follow, the bylaws are 227 and the female monks it’s 327 bylaws. Any mistake monks make in those bylaws let just say a being can reborn in an unpleasant environments
Very good movement.
Why Buddhist monks killed Rohingyas in Myanmar.
Nonsense , Myanmar army killed them
Constantly chant : Namo Amitabha , Repentance and Dedication of Merit.

If it was good enough for Buddha to accept women to become fully accepted Buddhist nuns then it should be accepted by male monks all the way up to the Dali Lama. Perhaps the male monks have fear that more female monks will be enlightened because they bring the feminine Devine. Shame on the male monks. Go sisters don't ever give up!

I am both Hindu and Buddhist because I am from Nepal😁. But my birth/death ritual goes as of Hindu but we can also invite lama to do reading 🤔.
This is Theravada practice in Thailand. Shows cultural overlay. The Buddha did ordain nuns. In Mahayana and Vajrayana there are nuns.
Discrimination of any kind is not Buddhism !
the word bhikkhuni is translated as a nun. But it is different bhikkhuni and nun. so nowadays, bhikkhuni is not accepted in our Myanmar. In the present nun, should not use the properties of the Sangha, robe, alms bowl.
