A sweet lady yesterday said she couldn't understand why as a Jewish person I'm having such a tough time this year, and that she knew another Jewish woman who told her recently that she was also struggling with the holidays. I replied by breaking into uncontrollable tears until she changed the subject. im in tears listening to your beautiful heart wrenching songs, and i cant imagine what yall are going through... but as someone born in the so-called u.s. (turtle island) it kept taking me back to after 9/11, when my immediate family were against the war and even our extended family had no compassion or empathy for other human beings just living in different conditions then we do. it reminds me of the fear, and viciousness, and cruelty, and cold hearts of the majority of people who surrounded me at that time, pleading with myself even as i did everything i could "what more can i do", not only to help those dying from u.s. bombs and occupations, but also to heal the hearts around me of those who refused to see the humanity of other people. my heart goes out to you, even though we may never meet physically in this world, my heart feels your hearts so close to mine. even though it may not seem like much, i will share your songs, so that your love and empathy can rise above every wall that divides us.

I'm trying to share these interviews as widely as I can (not very widely :) ). By this point, there is no shortage of "how I lost my illusions about Zionism" narratives from US Jews. I believe these can be important for us to share with each other (ex-Zionist US Jews) to help one another make sense of our experiences and perhaps light a lamp for someone who is a little earlier in this process. What you are doing, however, seems pretty unique, at least in English, and very necessary. The question "what radicalized you?" is essential to ask. Without a movement of Jews-raised-in-Palestine-with-Israel-on-their-passport rising up and resisting Zionist hegemony, what possible route to a just and safe future for Palestinians and Israelis is there? Only coercion through force, finance, and diplomacy will be able to push Israel to behave slightly better, but continued slaughter and degradation seems far more likely.
