As much as I love Michael Caine. And there is no denying he is one of the greatest actors of all time. I really think Duncan should have won the Oscar. John Coffey is one of the most memorable characters in cinema. And it’s all because of the way Duncan portrayed the character. He had so much depth to his character. The bit when he tells Paul to go ahead with the execution of him. I love that scene as he is comforting Paul. But at the same time comes across as the one who needs the hug.

Just like Morgan Freeman in Shawshank. Those movies would have been completely different if they were in them.
