Home built dumping flatbed trailer affectionately known as “FLIMSY”

Here’s a video of the dumping flatbed trailer I built a few years ago. I was looking for a deckover flatbed trailer that dumps and just couldn’t find any so I decided to build it myself. I’d never built anything like this before and it was a learning process. Overall I’m very happy with how it turned out.

I’ve been looking for a small crawler to restore with my son. A few years afo I came across a John Deere 2010 crawler dozer with a backhoe. Unfortunately that machine had been through a flood and was in very poor condition. Thus I kept looking and finally came across this D2. This will be the first of many videos as we begin to bring this machine back to life.

This is my home built dumping flatbed trailer I recently finished building. Affectionately known as the Flimsy Trailer (my dad decided it was flimsy), I built it to haul my Bobcat and whatever else needs hauling. I wanted a deckover flatbed trailer that dumps but nobody seems to offer one so I set about building my own. I even built the scissor hoist myself. I’ll try to put out a video of the c...
Logging with my 977H, just a small log…
Просмотров 80Год назад
Had a huge log hooked up and went to take a video. Kept logging and at the end of the day went to look at the videos I had taken, unfortunately my camera took a nice still photo of the line out to the bush and another of the log at the landing instead of a video of the whole process… so instead all I have is this rather unimpressive video of fishing a small log out of the bush…

Like your build, i bought a gantry similar like yours only its a little more "light duty" haha. mine uses a lever arm to raise and lower. As mentioned when using annular cutters ut really likes a bit of spray. Anything is better than nothing. Motor oil, wd40 i even used plain water on a job once. Other things is they dont like drilling multiple layers steel because even when clamped on 4 corners there is always a chance there's a little play or tension in one of the layers. The sides of the bit dont cut so it will jam itself.

Anything heavy moved along the track will need to be pulled along the track by some type of winch or winches pulling in each direction. After a few uses, because of the short corner braces, you may discover more movement between the legs and the top rail than you thought you would have. Good luck.

You need to use lube or coolant on the mag drill. Even with annular cutters, usually mag drills come with flood coolant options for them. That and clearing the plugs from the start would likely have saved the bit.

Don't forget weep holes for any blind pockets so the water doesn't get in it and freeze. It will crack the steel if enough accumulates. Nice project.

When I built my engine lift many moons ago I combined schedule 40 and 80 for a slip fit. I also had all the pieces hot dipped galvanized as it lived outdoors and that made the fit just right. I was using 2 inch and 2 and a half or three as I recall. The upright receiver I had to weld up as nothing was right for it. Used it for close to thirty years. A little cutting oil on those annular cutters extends their life immeasurably as with the chop saw.

Diesel can flush out all the crud in the gear box if you can turn the cogs by hand , same for the motor although I think you said it was frozen , I've even filled the pony with diesel to flush and lightly lube the moving parts. Let it drip dry for a day or two though

    • @davidtipton7234

I poured diesel in mine and took a air blower with a long stem on it. Stuck it in the fill hole to the bottom. And blew air in the diesel. I did it twice and mine looked brand new inside. That's the only way I've been able to get it all out.
