it's so sad that this is where the west is brainwashed to draw the line today, while they're supporting all kinds of evil and actually attacking good people who are trying to stop the evil, they even hold pride parades everywhere showing off their pride of their support of evil.

See, you guys aren't understanding the point of seneca or Eckhart Tolle, which is understandable, because modern western culture is so shallow. Seneca and Tolle aren't contradictory, they're talking about two sides of the same coin; the coin of purpose and meaning. Tolle's point is that the root cause of suffering is desire; in the modern world, we desire so much. To have more money than the next guy, to have a better car, a bigger house, a prettier gf... It's all about fulfilling these shallow instinctual desires. And by not fulfilling them, we suffer. So Tolle's point is that we're chasing after the wrong things. Seneca's point is that we think we want to avoid suffering. So much so that we're literally denying basic biological truths just to indulge in some people's mental illnesses so that they don't "feel bad". And we support all kinds of things like abortion, "body positivity"... whatever stance you have on those issues, the clear point is that western society today wants EASY (it's easier to export responsibility to society instead of controlling your own sexual urges and just not have those 5 mins of fun if you don't want a child, or it's easier to just not diet and exercise), not GOOD. All to avoid suffering. But by always chasing after things that make us "happy" and suffer less, ironically, that's what will make humanity as a whole suffer because this shallow culture/ideology is completely devoid of meaning and purpose. It's literally turning humans into animals who can only follow their evolutionary instincts instead of aiming for something higher. Seneca's point is that we're avoiding the wrong things. So you see, they're really talking about the same thing. That's why depression rates have gone up so much despite all of the technological progress humanity has made; the world hasn't gotten better. It's gotten more convenient, it's gotten less dangerous, but it hasn't gotten BETTER. People have way less fulfillment and meaning today than in the past.
