How To Use Your Chemex - Burman Coffee Traders
Just great! Thanks for showing us the entire roast!
I agree, their beans are Great.
I have never seen the temperature indicator on mine and do not know how to get access to it. Also I have to turn the time knob down to go to cool mode. My machine is only 9 months old. Bought August 2023. Your right about it being tippy. The chaff catcher is overly heavy and with the extension tube will be especially tippy. The unit has potential with some redesign ideas I am working on. My old "Poppery II" has worked for many years but wish it could roast more than 4 oz at a time and had a timer.
So it’s okay to keep it on high heat and you can get a decent fully city plus or medium to high roast? I always go over like 16-17% loss.
It seems most of the videos you see are old like this one 4 years. Today 4.23.2024 I am waiting the sr800 that has been on back order for too long. Supposed to get some for sale in the next two weeks.
I love mine. But I do decaf and the profile is quite different, it will bolt from too much heat. No chaff so I can do 3/4 of a pound easy
the easy way i do it out side, i do it by color not by time . i use a pan to water to cool the beans. Let dry and de= gas wheelchair larry
great video
Time to first crack at 6 minutes is not long enough unless you are going to roast to second crack.
When will coffee from Edwins Finca be in stock?
Why not just keep the fan on high? Wouldn’t that be ok for the roast?
I looked at a bunch of videos of this machine. I don't think it's well designed. The beans jumping up, that's the beans not being circulated evenly. A proper fluidized bed circulation would involve some constant even motion churning over the beans. I've seen several videos of diy/high end fluidized bed roasters doing exactly that. None of them aims for the jumping beans effect...
Well you would be wrong. For the cost and where it is in the market, it is well worth it. There are almost no decent roasters in this price range and for home roasting it works great. Those are hopping because he has the fan cranked, you can adjust to get movement without it hopping so much. Either way the evenness of the roast tells you what you need to know. But doesn't meet your standards so up your budget and have fun!
The machine works very well you, just need to adjust the settings based on your own observations and roast preference. I get easy light roasts with this machine that I can't get with my drum roaster. So for this machine I roast light to medium and the drum roaster is good for medium to dark. For less than $300 not sure you can find a better roaster.
When will the extension tubes be available? Thanks!
Just ordered Fresh Roast SR 800 wondering if I should have ordered the extension tube with it! I haven’t received the SR 800 yet guess I’ll have to check it out and see ?
turns out the tube is a big deal, hope you got one or a Razzo
There’s a bit of steampunk locomotive over it :). I really like it.
Is there a easy to follow roast profile for darker roast by heat / fan and time..
Very good job of explaining the process.
All these years later it's still my favorite roaster!
How much can you roast back-to-back in one day w/o damaging the unit?
Since the total amount of beans loaded is much more than usual, does it has any impact on the reliability of the heating systems?
No. FreshRoast says the issue is chaff and clogging and fire, not the amount of beans. I do decaf which has no chaff so I can do 3/4 lb at a time, could probably do more but don't need to
Can't hear you.
It’s difficult with the fan, but I turned on the cc closed captions & it was perfect!
Where can I buy the roaster with the extension tube?
Sounds like listening for first and second crack isn't an option with the fan noise.
You can hear it, just not on this video.
The fan seems to be too strong, the chaff collector could have collected many beans I supposed
You could be correct. Obviously,n lowering the fin speed after first crack will help speed the roast towards 2nd crack..if you're going that far.
I did not get beans in the chaff collector until I ran a second cool cycle--it does not cool as fast with the tube.
@@CarolBLow try using external table fan or any fan to quickly cool down the beans. The fluid bed roaster typically not design for cooling the beans fast enough
@@CarolBLow take the chaff collector off the last minute before you cool to ramp down. I roast just a hair under so it finishes as it cools
Thanks! great video. i just got the SR800, without the extension tube. Just watching your vid, I see how to operate the controls.
What a difference..using that extension tube!! Nice!
1. First crack occurred at 3 mins. 2. Second crack occurred at 2 mins after first crack. 3. Temp set at LOW
Can I use this machines near a window in my apartment?
I wouldn't without a fan to blow the smoke out.
Yessssss! that's my setup as well. Love it so much
Does it improve consistency?
how much smoke does it generate? could it be used indoors under a fume hood collector?
not too much smoke, but by the end, it would make the whole room smell very coffee-ish. perhaps with a hood, it will mitigate this. of course, you can just roast outside and avoid the coffee smell inside.
The areas still smells like a roastery even with a half-decent fan.
Thanks, I can't roast outside in winter, so I ended up with the gene roaster which can be hooked up to a 3" duct.
Doesn’t work to good even under a hood, i roast with mine outdoors all winter long with no issues. Just adjust your heat as needed. It’s definitely operates diff with the cooler temps.
What was you temperature near the end of the roast? I see that it was headed in the low 500°F, but if you want to get to second crack, what temperature should you be looking for if you are roasting natural beans?
Pengen banget punyanya kayak gt
I've seen recommendations to hit fc around 5.5-6.5min and finish 60-90sec after for a medium roast. Then I've seen recommendations to hit fc around 8-8.5 and finish at least 2 minutes after that. Do you think one of those methods is better than the other?
Good video. Lots of useful information. Thank you.
I got one of these from you folks for Christmas. Been getting your green coffee beans for the past several years. I used to roast in a thick flat pan. The machine is a real joy to use. I was sad that you didn't have any Mexcian green beans this last time I ordered. It seems to be my favorite. Still, I got 6 lbs of assorted low acid to try. Thanks
Just got an SR800 and ordered 3.5LBS of coffee from you guys! I'm excited to try my hand at roasting for the first time.
Too bad they don't make it in a one pound version. Does a air roaster make better coffee than the Behmor
My husband buys from Burman, just found your channel. Thanks for sharing
I guess you can't sample the roast to create a roast profile, right? If so, that sucks. I might as well stick to my BBQ propane drum roasting setup.
I'm an American which means I don't comprehend French measurements of temperature. If I can't understand it, I ain't buying it...
French measurements? Most countries on this planet go by degrees Celsius and kilograms. A few Americans, the one from the US I. e. are still behind their moon. With miles, inches, ounces and other such nonsense. You are outnumbered and outsmarted by the rest, except the British.
Hello, how is it so far? Is it reliable? Does it contain profiles? Thanks guys
We got this as a loaner so we could try it out. It was really easy to use, but it did not contain pre-set profiles, but the settings were very easy to use. You can contact Gene Cafe for more information.
Thanks for the video. What ever happened to this roaster? Are they for sale? Looks like a roaster I would be interested in.
You can contact Gene for information about the Kilo Roaster if you're interested in buying one. We just got to borrow one to mess around with in the shop for a few weeks.
Burman Coffee thanks for the reply. I did email them and was told that they cannot ship this model to the USA according to their local laws. To bad, looks like a nice home roaster. FYI they have another model (VR-P500) with 500gram capacity coming out in November. Maybe you can get one to test out for a couple of weeks and make a video?
Have you guys worked with the Aillio Bullet yet?
