The video & actors are a bit dated here, but all the information presented in this video is still relevant. It's simple, folks: If remodeling work is not completed properly, you could have on your hands a major problem with lead-based paint chips & dust.
OSHA Lead in Construction: an Overview

Sure, this video is old, the fashions are out of style, & the narration is a tad boring. That said, after all that time, the information is remains accurate and worthwhile regarding 29 CFR 1910.1025 & 1926.62, OSHA's standards for lead in general industry & construction.

    Is lead present in trace amounts even in "lead free" paint? I tested my apartment, which is in an old building, but all the walls in my unit were erected and painted in the 90s.

    I really like the PVC frame trough. End caps necessary to not get the lead in. Having just done some different abatement and looking ahead to my house, I wish I had thought of a PVC frame to contain.

    How do you make sure that the poles, which are on the inside of the plastic, are cleaned properly of lead dust? In our city we have a regulation that says the plastic sheeting does not get reused (you don't move it, you use it in once in an area and then take the plastic to a lead facility), but the poles would have to keep being reused. Or do you use extra plastic to cover the poles?

    • @TestudoLLCMadison
      @TestudoLLCMadison 2 года назад

      You would just clean the poles of dust before removing them from the work area.

    I have a big question. What if I am a non-certified painter, and never heard of EPA or RRP rules before. Home owner who just bought a 100 years old house hires me to do scraping work in one bedroom, and pressure washing and scraping work on the exterior. He didn't tell me anything about lead hazards, that can happen during my work. After my work was finished, they tested their carpet and outside yard and found it lead positive. Who is responsible for all these lead damages?

    • @TestudoLLCMadison
      @TestudoLLCMadison 4 года назад

      Hi Andrew, As a business owner hired for profit, you are liable for knowing about & following the RRP regulation; it's not the homeowner's responsibility to relay information on lead hazards. The EPA requires contractors to assume lead-based paint is present on their project if the home was built prior to 1978. Your firm would be responsible for cleaning up dust-lead, chips & debris in all your work areas & the pathways to access those work areas, nowhere else.

    • @andrewpesh9419
      @andrewpesh9419 4 года назад

      @@TestudoLLCMadison If home owners don't have any responsibility at all, does this mean that they can hire any non-certified painter, who don't know nothing about RRP regulations. And after the work is done, instead of paying him, will threaten him , and then will benefit from his insurance for cleaning their yard and installing new carpet.? ..I am sure there are a lot of painters out there, who never heard of RRP regulations yet, especially those who don't speak English.

    • @andrewpesh9419
      @andrewpesh9419 4 года назад

      This is what I found on EPA website: Real Estate Agents and Home Sellers Federal law requires you to provide certain important information about lead paint before a prospective buyer is obligated under a contract to purchase your home. Homebuyers Federal law requires that before being obligated under a contract to buy housing built prior to 1978, buyers must receive the following from the homeseller: An EPA-approved information pamphlet on identifying and controlling lead-based paint hazards titled Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home (PDF). Doesn't this mean that home owners should hire RRP-certified painter for their project in homes built before 1978, if not they are violating EPA rules and Federal Law. And if they are violating RRP regulations and the Law, they should be responsible too for any lead damage in their home.

    • @Hello-zf5lq
      @Hello-zf5lq 3 года назад

      Andrew Pesh homeowner is ultimately responsible for everything in their home. You were tricked into removing lead paint for much cheaper than a certified lead removal would cost and the homeowner is pretending to be stupid but really the homeowner hired a non certified contractor and got lead contamination as a result of hiring such a contractor. You may need a lawyer.

      If the containment is well built & fastened together, it can withstand wind, within reason. If the wind is blowing so much that it is impossible to contain the lead-based paint debris then one would need to shut the job down or risk violating regulations.
