Tech Tip! Grand Lid Prop Do's and Don'ts
Просмотров 414Месяц назад
When the lid of a grand piano is raised, it is held open by a wooden stick called the lid prop. Most lid props have a smaller stick called a half-prop, which can be used to keep the lid partially raised. You’ll know if you are using the grand piano lid prop properly because there will be a 90 degree "lid to stick" angle. NEVER put the longer lid prop at the wrong resting point, because at the w...

I couldn't agree more with you regarding S&S uprights and Chas. W. uprights. Thanks for you great content.
Thanks!
Very well!😉
Thank you! 😃
It hurts how often this happens! The front cover of Reblitz shows the Lid propped up improperly 🤣 my favorite detail
Thank you! Yes, we see it a lot too!
So you pushed this way out yourself. If an instrument is that as out to tune it most likely is old and the strings could be in danger of breaking with that amount of adjustments! That would be a HUGE concern of mine. Thoughts? Advice?
Yeah, David has used that piano to train so many of his techs on tuning for practice...and yes-it requires pulling it out of tune and then tuning over and over again. This is why when you get a piano to practice tuning on - make sure it's used and you are ok with that. Not ever had issues with breaking strings...but definitely could be an issue.
@@staceybeadle6946 that’s kinda my point. As the instructor I kinda feel like that is something he should mention/discuss/suggest strategies to keep use when the situation arises. What does he do in a “real world” situation. I get why and how is is doing it on that piano. He purposely made it sound bad. But it hasn’t been sitting for years in that one place sounding like that’s. Those strings aren’t old, dusty, and bridle! 🤷🏻♂️
We will totally do a training on this! Thank you so much for the suggestion!
Thanks!
You are welcome! We love following your pianocraft updates online!
Great video! Thanks for the extra tips :) I'm currently replacing the damper action in a Steinway B, and am getting ready to bend new wires. One other thing that's good to check before tightening the set screw, is that the wire moves freely inside the underlever hole; This is how you know you got the bends right. Hold either the damper head or the underlever still, and move the other up and down. If there's excessive friction, some portion the wire is likely not at the correct angle. Or in my case, the hole in the underlever was a little too small, and required slight drilling ;) Thanks again!
Such good advice :)
250 for all those supplies??? Now that's a great blessing! Way to go Michael!
Great work and excellent advice.
Thank you!

Always nice to see you, even if it's in a video!
