Fun on and under the ocean around the beautiful state of Tasmania. I surf a range of boards including a SUP, fish and short boards because you need to surf to the conditions down here. Tassie has four seasons in one day. Do a bit of diving and like to fish the beaches when I'm away.
Crystal Water Dive Tasmania
Amazing pristine spot with crystal clear water on Tasmania's East Coast. Lots of friendly fish and a vibrant ecosystem.

Such clear water looks stunning mate
Yeah, it' amazing to dive in. And surf too. 😁
@ that would be some trip mate
I enjoy your videos Ben, but I think you need to be honest with yourself and consider that you may be ruining a spot just to grow your RUclips channel. Is it worth it? Maybe consider taking the high road by working with the locals to reach an agreement.
I would agree with you, except for the fact that it's the only beach in the district, and the others 45 min away are less suitable for the people who come here. Everyone that will come here is already here. If they can explain to me who the people are who will come here because of my videos, and where they will come from, I will stop. They can't, because they don't exist.
He would agree but he's not going to lol. Fact is many amateurs persist with two other nearby spots when it's overcrowded and not very good. Those people assume this spot is also overcrowded and not good on those days. These videos only need to convince a handful of those people to start spending their time at this spot and it has an impact. He is not open to the possibility of what he is doing is wrong. He had a chance at the start of this to prevent more severe backlash, but seems set on conflict.
one day we drove the whole of the east coast looking for waves, ended up at cloudy bay down the end of bruny island, walking along the path to spot check and we're thinking ahh this looks kinda sharky here, then a little further along there's this wooden bench with a little memorial plaque: "for tommy, who was taken by a shark at this spot". we surfed it anyway, there was nothing else to do there. it's what tommy would have wanted
Never knew that anyone was taken down there. Cloudy Bay is amazing, I've had some really nice waves there in the past. Have to head down again soon. 😁
My grandfather fought in ww2 I will fuckin surf wherever and whenever the fuck I like!!
@@BrantGlascott the ocean is the absolute testament to our freedom. Nobody owns it. Everyone is equal. 😁
Nobody is asking this guy not to surf there. Just asked him not to advertise it on social media. He wasn't attacked or threatened as he says. People just asked him to please not advertise and when he said no, people said not to expect the regulars surfers to be friendly. Annoyed people don't usually say hello and want to have a friendly chat.
We can learn a lot from nature. The echidna is just enjoying its day and not interested in drawing attention to itself. 😉
awww, I hope it turned out okay
Yeah, I think it was OK, they can swim.
from NJ USA... I'm coming over right now!!!!! LOL!!!
Everyone needs to drop in on this dude whenever they see him prove once and for all if RUclips has an impact.
When you draw this much negative attention to yourself and refer to the local crew as boomers, gumbies and speedbumps, it's bound to happen.
RUclips can't have an impact because this beach is the only surf beach here. They can't turn up from anywhere else. these guys are literally thinking that some of the people at the other end of the beach will move up this end.
@@tassiewatersports9266 the username says all I need to know 🤣
Kook
Locals are control freaks, but happy to yravel and surf other local waves
And post them on their FB and insta or send a text to a mate. They only apply this standard to their one home break. 🤣
We do surf other spots and don't try to stop people from surfing this spot. We just don't advertise on open platforms inviting people to come.
People like you are always going to try to justify their behavior. You talk about yourself the entire time as an outsider and a victim then at the end try to claim to be a local. Can't be both. If people are giving you feedback and you can't respect that then thats not really cool. Same thing happens here in the other side of the world. This reminds me of when weekend warriors see our vehicles parked at a beach they don't bother to check anything themselves they just show up at the peak we are surfing because it must be good... there are literally 10 miles of peaks with no one on them but they just paddle out where we are. The same thing will happen when people see RUclips videos of a spot and you gave directions lol. Just saying.
Can I just explain something to you that might help? There are two choices for people in Hobart. They drive to this beach, or the South Arm beaches. Most of the long boarders come here. If they come here, there are two spots to surf, that are 2min apart by road. They will usually go to Park first, and check the river if it looks big enough. There's nowhere else. they surf the one that looks less crowded. You can see the breaks without getting out of the car. I can't draw in a crowd from somewhere else, because there is nowhere else. I don't know who it is that they think I will draw in who isn't already here. Ghost surfers?
Sigh, so you don't name places in the title but you clearly name them in the comments, enjoy your new found fame😢
@@adrianjackson1359 You have to understand the context of this. This is the most popular surf beach in the state. It is the only surf beach for the entire district. Everybody knows it and surfs it. They know where it is as soon as they see the video.
You took down a title with the names of these places... Why? Yet you name them in the comments do you not? Only reason why you would remove the names of these places in the first place is because you know you're doing the wrong thing, it's as simple as that.
@@Nicole-tu9bc No, it's to stop people from overreacting. Everyone knows exactly where it is if they live in the region. They all surf here.
He doesn't get it. He is buttoning down to be an even bigger w⚓ and wreck your local spot. Next he will open a surf shop there, I reckon. Loose lips sink ships. He can't even surf, so he doesn't truly appreciate what he is wrecking for people who can.
There's nothing to get. They are assuming a bunch of things that aren't real. That's why I do not and will not agree with them. It's already been on youtube, named for at least 6 years, it's in all the surf guides, with photos, it's on insta and countless facebook profiles. On a warm day, they beach is filled with thousands of people. Major surf carnivals are held at the surf club 200m away. Any effect my videos have will be miniscule compared to the exposure it already gets.
sounds like you think only people who 'can surf' are entitled to the surfing experience. yeah, well thats just your opinion, man. given that you don't care about other people enjoying that experience, why would they treat you any different? all these 'locals' and the 'surfing community just making shit up to justify their bad behavior. go ride a bike if you cant handle the reality that surfing is good so people want to do it, so there are going to be ever increasing crowds. moaning online sound like a bunch of sooks/bullys
you dont need a paddle to surf.
You ended your video by asking viewers to share their thoughts in the comments, but when they did, you responded defensively, offering excuses or justifications for everything.
Nah don't name any spot let people discover them self.
@@garrysalis4312 i actually named it once early on, but never again. Having said that, everyone knows it anyway.

I visited Hobart and found this spot and the south arm breaks after a quick google. It’s no secret 😂

It’s the Tassie Pipeline, cmon down 🤙
Got booted of frothing spots for posting up kelvedon lmao
Hey Ben, This tight-knit community values the beach and the relatively quite waves it offers. Posting videos that name the break creates a level of awareness (and invitation) that wasn't there before. The folk that are misbehaving in the surf aren't generally Tasmanian's, they're mainland arrivals to the island or van-life folk that are on the search for waves. Look at the car park at present, how many interstate plates do you see? Plenty. How do they find waves in Tasmania? A quick internet search and there is your RUclips account showing all this quite corner of the world. Solo waves at dawn sound pretty nice Ben, might pop down for a slide... where did you say it was again? Engage with the community, listen, participate and talk with the people who live and love this place. Benny
Hi Ben, I had only one video with the name on it, and I changed that. The rest don't, so no, they won't find mine by searching by name. I did, however, just watch a vid by a kid 6 years ago, surfing it and naming it in the title. That's what they will find. If the are searching by name though, they must already have found it... I'm not sure that tourists are the only ones misbehaving though. That sounds a bit xenophobic really. Try searching for "surfing carlton river tasmania" on google first to see the ratings from the surf guides, and then switch to video and see the videos which have been there for years. I'm not the first to do this, by a long way.
@benvaughan-williams9266 people name breaks in comments. People circulate footage around asking others if they know where it is. The footage is enough to generate interest and is used to identify locations without naming. Yes you can search for info online about this break anyway, but it's not being offered around in the recommended section of youtube like your videos. How do you think everyone in the area became aware of the videos? It didn't happen 8 weeks ago or 4 weeks ago, it's happening now because youtube has recognised the views and subs growing and has now started recommending them to anyone that has a history of watching surfing and tasmania related content. We didn't search for it, it's being pushed at us and many others.
@@tasmaniacfishing1134 OK, so what about every other break in Tasmania that has videos on RUclips? Should they all be taken down? Is it ruining them? It doesn't change what people do.
@@tassiewatersports9266 you clearly have no intention of removing the videos or being respectful to the local community, so this debate isn't really going anywhere positive. I guess our only option now is for everyone to start surfing at dawn too and start sharing your empty waves. See ya out there 🤙
@@tasmaniacfishing1134 Yes, that will be a much better solution. 😁
I wish I had a 10 people crowd problem at my local, Snapper lol...
Ummm, right hand spilling wave into a river mouth, very distinctive headland, surf club a couple of hundred metres up the beach, another car park at the opposite end of the beach, some landmarks in the distance out to sea is the final give away which confirms the wave is contained within a bay and not an open ocean beach. I live in NSW and I’m pretty sure I found this spot in 5 mins on Google Earth. BUT I’m not about to book a spot on the ferry or jump on a plane to surf it anytime soon, lol.
Any swell up there? I spent my teenage years in Sawtell. Did a few years at Evans Head when I was at Uni in Lismore. Love those warm water beachies. 😁
@@tassiewatersports9266 No swell ,,it's been bad for months.
A few videos? You post 12 in 8 weeks. Don't think anyone has ever done that for one location in the history of Tasmanian surfing. Nobody ever done anything close to that and the main reason is that locals tend to get upset when you run a weekly advertisement on their regular surf spot. It's not about the fear of attracting an instant crowd. These videos will grow attention the longer they sit here on RUclips. Your channel will grow. Local regulars at any break, don't go around advertising openly to the general public because Tassie breaks are already crowded enough. If you only attract another 20 people to become regulars over the next 12 months, that's 20 more that single take off has to cater for. Nobody has a problem with you or your friends surfing there, it's spamming the coverage on social media that has annoyed people. Bringing media attention to any small community surf location is and has always been frowned upon. It's just not something you do. It's straight up disrespectful. Again Nobody else does it or has ever done it to level you are doing. You must be the only person that doesn't understand this type of thing will upset people. You can come up with any justification you want, but fact is advertising works, that's why people advertise. Instead of enjoying the break and becoming a part of the community, you chose to make enemies. By the way, it's not just 3 or 4 of us that would like you to remove the videos, it's many more than that. They have just chosen not to reach out to you through messages. But I wouldn't expect a friendly reception when you see them. Why are you even doing it? What are you aiming to get from it except upset people?
Mate, you are doing EXACTLY the same thing with your fishing videos. Have you even considered that? No, you haven't. Will they make a difference? Probably not. Neither will mine. You are imagining it.
Mate I fish in many locations. I don't post videos in any location that will upset the local fisherman. Also if a local did reach out to me and ask me to remove it, I would have the decency to respect that request. There is no current crowd problem in the locations of my videos. Hardly anybody fish in those locations. People catch kingfish under the tasman bridge when they are running. The day after someone posts a video of catching a king there, you can't even cast a line. There is a regular crew that fish there and it understandably upsets them when social media attention results in them not being able to fish. I understand this, I have caught kings there, but would never go upsetting the regulars by advertising it. Anyway you clearly don't understand so there really isn't any point trying to debate with you. Do what you want, but don't be surprised if you turn the entire community against you.
Well said Beevis, just here for the comments 🤙
@benvaughan-williams9266 here's an idea. Instead of going for half hour surfs at dawn filming your ads. You should come out when everyone is there. Bring your camera and explain to them what you are doing and what you have already done and ask them their opinion. If you have any doubts about how everyone feels (not just 4 of us), I'm sure everyone will give you some feedback.
I think the channels great and all the whingers can just suck it up . I’m from northern tas I’ve wanted to know what that break looks like for years. Doesn’t mean I’ll be there every weekend there’s plenty more to choose from . Give the man a break he’s just doing what he loves and wants to share it with people.

Lovely water and mellow waves what’s tassie like in December mate
Really nice, days in the 20's, nights about 15, water between 16 and 20 degrees. You have to travel for waves if you want to surf a lot, but that's OK. Just an hour or two.

Wont be mellow crew for long. Once they see all these videos on social advertising their local quiet spot.
LOL, the same guys have a bunch of photos of other local spots on their own social media pages. It makes no difference in the end. It's not a secret.
@benvaughan-williams9266 people are careful to consider their audience and the locations. This is an open public forum. Very different. Anyway you do you, but as I said the local crew here will be anything but mellow very soon. Breaking the golden rules dude.

What a kook to share spots on youtube. All for profit or what?
@@tofinorob You can't share a spot when it's basically the only spot and everybody knows it. There are thousands of surf videos on RUclips, including this very spot, already.

Cool little movie
Thanks mate 😁
Looks like paradise. Nice little runners, really enjoyed your clip 👍
Cheers mate, yeah it's a nice, easy wave with such long rides. When the swell is the right size, they usually all hold perfectly.
Haha we’re similar age it would be bloody freezing in the water down there wouldn’t it
Not in summer, we do get warm water, especially in the shallow bays. The ocean is still 16-17, but the bays can be 20+. Winter is 10 degrees though.... 🥶
So awesome mate great video
Cheers ol' kid! 😁
Great video. Stunning views. Can high tide prevent return via the cave? Is there any other way back?
If you walk out, it is safe from the tides as it's only a metre or so between low and high tide. If the waves are big enough to be filling the cave, you wouldn't be surfing there. there is a spot you can climb up the rocks, but that can be painful 😅Check out my other vids to see a big day there.
Amazing
😮 you can walk through the cave? I’m surprised, probably coz when I went the tide was high and waves were crashing in so I assumed that was its natural state
In winter it's chewed out, or when there's big swell. Just fills up with sand in summer.
