I agree. When you crack on it comes out in a jiffy. Tho I’ve loads of electricals to deal with preventing me taking out the last of it. I’ve taken the van to get looked out to rip out the industrial stuff but I’ll work around it till I can find someone to do it 😀

It’s a blessing but a slight curse as it’s a touch more bouncy and skittish suspension wise. I’ll be taking her for a drive this week and see the difference.

A mate of mine who owns the next version up says there’s a bit of whistle now and again. Afaik it’s not constant. Stupid question. If I disconnect the leisure battery the feed from the front won’t be live till I turn the ignition ? I went to start her the other day and she was a touch lazy in line with a battery being drawn slowly.

@@AVanLifeThing Probably the engine battery may be either weak and/or damaged, or you have an electrical draw somewhere. Might be worth getting an electrical tester on it or taking it into a workshop where they can test the battery charging and capacity. Once a standard battery becomes flat they end up being damaged, You can only usually discharge them down to maybe 40%, lower than that depending on the type of battery you can bend the plates or you can try a battery recovery device, which will apply a reverse current to de-sulphate the plates. Sadly if the plates are bent it will need a new one.

@fatbikemontage2931 it’s nothing (for once) that I’m worried about. I’d place a bet on it being the original battery plus the battery guard 3000 doing something. I’ve been looking into batteries and I’ll try my hand at a newbie short about them. I’ve seen that eco-worthy seem To be pushing lithium batteries at an insane price. Any thoughts on them ?

@@AVanLifeThing Lithium is the best thing for the leisure battery, but they are maybe 5x the price per usable Amp/PH than a traditional lead acid/agm battery. Oh and the traditional batteries are much heavier. Definitely wouldn’t go for a Lithium on the engine starter battery, as they can leave you stranded in very cold weather. I have used Lithium on motorbikes very successfully, as I tended not to use them in extreme cold. Personally, I would get the current battery tested and use a decent recovery battery charger like a CTEK one which has a battery recovery program. I would doubt the leisure battery is damaged, unless someone has done something really stupid. As for battery makes, Renology seem to be good and solid. Stick with decent makes. Don’t want a dodgy Lithium battery causing a fire.

@@AVanLifeThing Oh and another thought is getting something like a Clayton. SO basically a battery plus inverter and electric system all in one. Expensive, but it replaces a lot of kit, especially if you will be getting solar panels too. The Victron kit is good, but each piece adds a lot of money. DC-DC charger, MPPT, and inverter., plus the battery. Something like the Clayton replaces all of that.

The allpowers panel has decided that it doesn’t want to draw anything less than 45w. If I cover a part of the panel it drops in half so something isn’t right. City plumbing do 500w panels but I believe they are too many amps for something like an allpowers rs600

Hey, thanks for the comment. The point was to say I have doubts over getting a new van, plonking down a lot of money and the whole has it been more of a mobile generator.. Who's not had doubts when getting a van with no service history? Keep an eye out for the next few videos, get what you are saying but There's a story coming :)

Well blow me over. If you push in that does just the wipers, push a bit harder and you are right. You get a resistance point and then it starts to wash the screen. I never knew the jets were inside the wiper blade assembly!! Thank you!

I used to think that but apparently the models after 2012 or 2014 had a different process to undercoat the van. if I can find the source I'll link to it.

Ahhhh ok. So in effect it's just sat there till the relay goes ah ha, I'll have a bit of you? It's hooked up to a battery guard 3000 which whilst I've no idea what it does, goes for a few hundred quid new hence my lack of wanting to tinker with that area.

@AVanLifeThing I just looked up the unit. It's a fancy split charge relay with alarms etc. I'd just rip it all out if it were me. Or maybe I'd see if I could harvest the relay without all the alarms and stuff. Might be a decent battery they've used too . Might be some other goodies in there too 🤔

Cheers!!!! My dumb ass saw the little tool cover thing about the top of it and went... well it's not there has to be somewhere else lol. Cruise control is blinking lovely. Not that I've taken it out on the motorway yet to get some real miles in but I've a plan for that :). When you say change without it deactivating... so if I'm in 6 and she struggles with an incline I can drop it to 5 and I'll keep the cruise, does that apply for going up to 6 again?

@@AVanLifeThing yup, active through all gears. The only pedal that deactivates it is the brake. To resume just pull the stalk towards you. Pushing the stalk forward also deactivates it, and again pulling it back resumes your set speed. Good for B roads. Or alternatively if you'd rather hold the speed you're at when it's deactivated just nudge the lever up and it'll set a new speed. Pushing the lever up or down once a speed is set acts like a stalk mounted throttle. It doesn't work below 20mph. I use it at every available opportunity. Once mastered it's a gem.

With my ex RAC van you were right, tracking was off, wheel bearings needed to be done and the dreaded EGR valve needed doing. I'm still not sure on the high top myself at the moment. I'm not going to have a shower but I thought something I can stand up in to cook, shower, shave and get changed in might be worth a go. It was also a thought that I've done the SWB so give something different a go. I'll be posting a video about that as well soon as we're due rain and that'll stop the build process. @AVanLifeThing We have a rock and roll bed in our swb Vivaro. My wife and sometimes I sit to cook and later wash up using our Smev unit. We have a simple folding table and with the double seat rotated 4 could eat, although we are only two. So you see that we only lack that shower. My urgent advice to you is sell, this van is like a T4 5 cylinder motor home I bought, it was a never ending nightmare and money pit. My 08 Vivaro means no timing belt, super smooth 40mpg 115bhp high torque engine and perfect 6 speed box. The first owner was ham fisted and wore out the selector which was cheap to renew and I did a clutch change at 165,000 miles costing 450 fitted. Apart from servicing that's it after 9 years. I hope I keep it another 9 years, it drives like a nice car. Is it cool? No!

I had this exact same thought, the steering wheel looks like it's done more than 200k. I went with a friend who's a bit more mechanically savvy and the pitting also is the same if you use hand sanisister and that can break down the stuff on the steering wheel. I might see if or how hard and how much it'll cost to replace the wheel. I did check with DVLA and the mileage is correct and similar to other ones I've seen. The only real worry is how many working hours did the van have....

Do the pedals match the wheel wear ? just a thought.

Well…. There’s a story. My neighbor is a true off grid type and it’s shocking the cost of electric vans in general and how much it costs to charge. He said that for a 2 hour fast charge to do 200 miles could £54. More to follow. Oh and my new van make strange beeping sounds

Ahhh of course. The thing that tractors have. But now I’ve realised. I’ve bought a van with low mileage but it might have a high amount of hours used. Like how tractors log their hours. Wonder if there’s a way to find out. The compressor I’m not fussed on but the dirty huge inverter “might” come in handy. Tho it’s a whopping 16 amps so I’m really not sure what to do

Thing is. the van STILL pulls to the left and im sure of it despite checking that all the wheel alignment is showing in the clear. I don't think it has any counter weights on there, just a hammer used to sort it :)
