1929 Evinrude Fastwin 14 hp, First Start Attempt
I tried once prior starting the Fastwin, but it didn't seem to
be getting any fuel. On this attempt I pulled the spark plugs,
and squirted gas in each cylinder.
It fired then, but still won't pull gas from the carb. Fuel level
in float bowl verified "okay". Either adjustments are "out of whack",
something plugged, or just too worn out to suck fuel.

Got the gas tank somewhat in better shape, cleaned out, and installed, so another test start. I may need to adjust the float level. Very "cold blooded" on a cold start.

Finally got it to start up after some magneto issues. Now that it runs, I'll start working on it's gas tank.

First attempt to see if this motor has potential. It didn't give me a resounding "I'm ALIVE", but rather a "I'm half awake, let me be"! The throttle lever won't stay closed, and I don't have the air horn with the choke installed yet, let alone the gas tank. I'm hoping when those two items are added, it will wake up with a roar.

Just got this cute little motor at Tomahawk, and decided to see if it would "pop off". It didn't want to quite start in the barrel, but I think I flooded it. Runs on the bench, so perhaps with a little tweaking it will see water again.

Upgraded the ignition system to an HEI distributor. I still have to time the engine yet, and install a diode harness to the alternator so the engine will shut off, as the alternator is back feeding to my HEI relay.

Tweaked a few things and installed the rewind. 68 & 70 psi compression, so it a strong runner.

Reassembled from some buckets of parts. For some unknown reason (un-remembered reason!) I took it apart several years ago, and abandoned the project. It was originally a "neutral shift" motor, but it was missing in shift cable and internal spring, so for now, it's a Non shift motor. New impeller, coils, condensers, plugs, etc. Initial run shows great promise, but I didn't think to plug the shif...

First time run with the correct gas tank, and first time it mowed some lawn in about 46 years. I trimmed around some trees and a shed for about 15 minutes, and it ran great. I had to stretch the governor spring so it didn't run wide open. Very hard to adjust the carb while running, as the air cleaner is in the way for the "low speed", and the HOT muffler in the way of the "high speed"

A LOT quieter with the cut-out shut.

I ran this one in the barrel last October before I put the decals on, but decided to retest it to make sure it's ready for the boat.

This motor was on my grandfather's Foley push mower, that I've had stashed away for the last 45 years. It was last run in the late 1970's. I finally decided to see if I could get it running again. Did a valve job and installed new points, condenser, and spark plug. Will run better once I get it back on the mower deck with a blade installed, and adjust the carb.

Wow, this motor gets out and boogies! With about 450#'s worth of passengers, gas tank, oars, etc., it managed to do 18.6 mph. I had some issues after a while with the "parts box" needle and seat, which "was" working okay in the test barrel, but started flooding out the motor later on. Sadly, I should have installed the new needle and sits is on the workbench.

First time on the lake with this motor. It seem to perform pretty good, and did idle down slower after the video.

Martin 40 / 45 is still sick, but getting a little better?
I well remember the '50s, when Evinrude/Johnson/Merc outboards ruled the area waterways. 25, 35, and 40 horsepower units performed well. Electric starters were just becoming standard.
Sounds great. Should be a good runner,
Beautiful good compression
It's a runner!
Just got this same model
Any chance you can show me how you wired this up. Looking to do the exact same
Go to AOMCI web page, post query on the free "Ask A Member" Forum. There, I and or others can post diagrams, etc.
Spark plug number??
Champion D16, 18 mm
Excuse me please help. I’ve got one of these and it never had spark plugs in it. Could you please give me a number of what your running
I can't find the plug number in my notes, but I can look at the motor tomorrow.
I have one and they are great. It will troll right down to the stop position. The only complaint is that they are loud!
Great to here it making smoke again!
Can you put tiller handles on these? 🤔
Awesome, brother
Love it!
That garage is going to take off!
I remember that copper fuel line running across the head. Easily got bent and would leak at the connections. A wonderful engine though, they kept the basic design for decades.
Cool! The old Briggs is running nicely.
Anyone have to rebuild the carb what did you use for the float?
They're just cork floats, easy to make your own. I bought a bag full off of EBay a few years ago, and cut and sand them on a belt sander to the shape and size I need, and seal them with super glue.
Running pretty good. Seems like its pushing that boat around well
Gonna be a trick getting a propeller on that old bird!!!!
cool
Looks like a milk shake machine
very cool
Shiny 😁
That’s the first time I’ve seen one on a boat. It sure sounds good.
Sweet little motor!
That one sounds like it has some real promise! Should be a nice runner when it's all dialed in on the boat!
She sounds good! That baby will make you little dingy fly!
If you ever need Bendix Scintilla coils or points, i found a supplier!
Ive got the Oliver made Wizard Powermatic 5.5
Mercury built 😊
Purrs like a kitten! Another one saved from the scrap yard. It's ready to go fish'en!
I'm rehabbing an Evinrude 4366 with copper tank, for display. I think the recoil cover plate was likely bakelite and it's gone. I'm looking for a replacement. Any metal will do, and if there is a cover from a different motor that will fit that's fine.
Sounds good.
Great running and looking little kicker! Easy fixeruper! Mine wasn't so easy. One of these days I will tell you about it. Thanks for sharing.
I've got a 5.5hp and a 10hp, both are from 1954
Sweet! The '55 CD's are one of my favorite motors.
im not sure if you still read comments, but how did you get the impeller to attach to the driveshaft? I know that the original used splines, but the mercury one just has a little dent on the side of the brass. did you slide a pin through the impeller and out the other side, like how you would hold a prop on? or did you do something else? I am having to resort to this method as well, as I just bought a 7.5 elgin to refurbish with a trashed impeller inside.
I used two Mercury impellers stacked together. I drilled two holes in the driveshaft part way in (one for each impeller) and installed short pins to drive the impellers. If I have your email address, I can send photos.
@@MrBigSand I ended up doing exactly what you did, and it pumps water just like it this video, but when I attach the head, it doesn't have any flow. There are no blockages, so I'm assuming it's where the water pipe and the head meet, which I think a rubber seal is supposed to be. Do you have any idea on what I could do to seal that gap between the pipe and the water inlet on the motor head?
Your high speed indicates there is still some dirt in the carb . Video -ruclips.net/video/LFB3l_lqxvg/видео.htmlsi=oZJUD-OmujTve9Ff These are great motors!!!
Nice one! I have a nice running Brooklure 12hp and a 5hp. I put a new rotor pump in the 5 because it was not pumping water very well. Yours sounds really good!!
Chicago IL 60609!
Nevermind! I see it now!
Nevermind! I see it now! Lol 😊
Nice, smooth runner! Is it a single?
Nice resto job. Another one saved from the scrap heap.
Is there a video of the complete rebuild on that?
No rebuild video. I didn't open up the crankcase on this one. I do have some photos of various work done on it.
Do you know the part# for the mercury impeller? Thank you
My Notes.....Used Mercury impellers (2) for impeller swap, 47-89981. They were loose on the stub driveshaft, but drive pins were fit tight to compensate. Sierra 18-3054 "may" be a tighter fit on the .429 diameter stub driveshaft. I used Chinese aftermarket impellers, so that might account for some of the slop?
Soundin better !
It doesn't seem to me like the vent screw on my '40 ever closes off the tank to air... Yours looks the same to me
Yup that's work'en! Maybe it needs some Geritol!
It sounds like the old girl is running out of gas. Will it stay running if you squirt fuel into the carb when it dies? Probably something simple!
I've drained the gas tank twice now to change carbs, and there's no issues with gas coming out of the tank. Both carbs are cleaned, and appear in good order. I'm running out of "simple", lol
Nice! I just got a "60" back together and I'm working on a second one. Both were seized/stuck
I have / had two 60's, two 75's, this 45, and a worn out 20. When they're in good shape, they sure idle nice.
I also find the fuel ⛽️ shut off valve needs cleaned on all of my old Martins and I disassemble it to make sure I get everything. I have parts manuals I would send you via email or Facebook messages at no charge.
