Thank you! I was hooping my hat in a different direction but your method is so much easier and provides more clearance for hat material.

do you need to make sure the hat is positioning in the middle on the Y-axis as well? how do you know to position the hat perfectly on the y-axis so the machine doesn't sew in the wrong area? i tried to embroider aprons, but it would always stitch lower than i wanted. should we do a trace stitch beforehand to make sure?
