Hey guys, I'm Indiana John. I'm a full-time knife maker, specializing in manually machining balisongs. The majority of the content on my channel is balisong related, but there are some other random things.

Intermediate Balisong tutorial: Poor man's 8 pass
0:19 Damn thats a smooth way to close the balisong. Can you make a tutorial?
Thank you! If you know the figure 8 opening/closing, and a standard rev fan, you're 90% of the way there!
Run it?
@@mudnducs all the time. I make all my balisong blades and handle scales on it
I had a Gorton P1-3 3d Pantomill. with a full set of collets and brass fonts. It was given to me by a friend who needed to clear up floor space. It collected dust in my shop for a couple of years, I really couldn't find a use for it, so I gave to to another friend, and now it's sitting in his shop, collecting dust. They seem like they'd be a wonderful machine to have, but honestly, even the most inexpensive CNC router is more flexible, and faster to set up. My hats off to anyone who has sorted out a practical use for one of these.
Y6k (y2k to Chaplin to middle finger Chaplin to ring finger Chaplin to pinkie Chaplin)
I've tried so many times, but I've only gotten all the way to my pinky like 5 times ever 😂 In this clip I did two ring chaps at the end
@@Indiana_John OK close enough
Nice video (as always) , i usually watch you balisong stuff , and i need some pivot needles and i’m in the UK , i would also like to buy one of your balisongs but i have no money haha 😂, but yes , do you provide UK shipping ?
@@codflipsbalisongs Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't do international shipping yet, but I would like to get that going. If there's someone in the UK who wants to order 5 or 10, I can do a bulk discount for them to then sell to other UK flipper
@@Indiana_John Ahh ok 👌🏼 it’s good that you are planning on international , but for now i’ll have to make do with that nabalis one , thanks for the response 👍
Whoooooa awesome!!!
*proceeds to undo the chain stitch, starting at the correct end. fails. tries the wrong end. definitely fails. back to correct end. gets it. ZIP*
any shoe maker will love it.
Looks like a very similar sewing mechanism to the chain stitch embroidery machines that use a hook needle, but sized up for leather. The rotating post bed is very common in shoe/boot making so I'd guess that was the original target industry for the machine.
Those look like milling collets for a milling chuck is it a similar deal? ER collets, particularly ER20, are ridiculously useful. You have some seriously cool stuff man gotta love younger people more my age that are still into the pre-CNC age of machining/making things
@@chopthesheep90 Thanks! I do have an ER20 collet adapter for this machine. It is super handy. I hope to some day grind a new inner spindle with an ER20 taper tho. That would be so much more rigid
That is such a cool machine I hope you eventually make work boots or something I'd love to own some Indiana John boots. That sounds so cool
@@DesmanthusMade Thanks Des! It'll be a ways out, but I'm sure both of those things will happen eventually 👌
Nice 👍!!
Thanks!
😮💨😮💨
Great tutorial bro
Thanks man!
Glad to see another tutorial! Very fun looking combo! Thanks for the vid
Thank you! I'm glad you appreciate it! 👊
Really like this one. Can you post other angles / slow mo ?
Thank you! will do!
can u make me a custom blade for a Benchmade 4x
I can, but I'm booked solid until August. Send me an email explaining what sorta reblade you're looking for, and I'll let you know what it'll cost and when I think I can get it to you. Here's my email address indianajohnsknives@gmail.com
I thought shorts could be 90 seconds, turns out they've gotta be a minute or less. My bad lol
hey bro i just learnt this as my first advanced combo , really like it 😊
Heck yeah man! Glad to hear this helped!
....I dig.
Wowee!
The belt is very strange, never see one like this ^^ Old stuff, she not a bit noisy when use ?
It is pretty weird! at first I thought it was one of those linkbelts that you can pop apart to change the size, but it's not. There are three rivets in each "link". It sorta reminds me of leather stacked K-bar handles
It’s D2 not 440C
This one was 440c. Nowadays they're making them with D2, but they were 440c 3 years ago. They were also $70, but they're $40 now
She's a beaut John, just needs a turret and some production parts to make ;)
I almost got a turret with it, but it woulda been another $500 I didn't have. It would be nice to get one eventually tho. I do need to come up with more production stuff, I've got pivotneedles but that's it atm
Good stuff!
Thank you!
Wow it’s nice to see a piece of machinery front my hometown. I grew up right down the road from the south bend lathe building before they remodeled it.
Ha! That's awesome! Musta been a pretty big building. Their output was crazy. There are a lotta SB lathes out there
Do they sell a balicomb version of this?
I don't think so. The only decent balicombs I'm aware of are the ones Atropos makes, and I think Artisan cutlery makes one as well
your so lucky I live in the uk and only dream of having this
$40 right now pretty tempted
I thought it was a realistic video game for a sec😅
Sunlight is a pretty incredible thing!
Awesome stuff John, burning the midnight oil I see.... I'm so glad to see you follow through with your filming plans!!! I know personally its hard for me to film literally anything without giving up. Inspiring that you made such a complete video
Thank you so much Des!!
Maybe the circle with an added outline would loook nice. Interested in seeing the trimmed verison also. Regardless the clarity is impressive, leather is the best.
I think I'll eventually do up a set of these. This was 4-1, so I'd do like 2-1, 3-1, 5-1, 6-1 and maybe more. I'll definitely try out some that are trimmed to the profile of the logo. What do you mean by the circle with an added outline?
Awesome as always
Thanks so much bro!
insanely cool machine
Thanks Nick!
I think it’s more like a fan parabolic, that looks cool!
Thanks! Also, this was from before the term parabolic was around. Originally I called these airfans
One of the nicest guys. Love the machinery.
Thanks Christopher!
This is a fun video to look back on cuz 2 years ago I could not for the life of me understand this combo but now it looks simple! Thank you John for the quality combos!
Awesome! Glad to hear that!
Those cranks are hella satisfying
Totally!
Dude I might need to build a whip now, you came outta nowhere with this!
Oh man you totally should! It's a lotta fun, especially these little guys. This video was kinda spur of the moment lol. I need to pick up some thinner lace for these before I can finish them. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they turn out.
That was unexpected 😂
It’s crazy how old those band saws are but still kick. I’m digging the set up. It’s so cool
greetings

Bro that is a sick balisong I love the look and the kukri blade ohhhhhhhh so sick👌👌👌
Thanks man!! You should check out the Kukri bali I finished the other day! Damascus blade, channel ti handles, carbon fiber inlays, zen pin with bushings. It's on my Instagram @indiana_john_flips
Is this Bali difficult too Loctite ?
Loved hearing you talk about what a pain it would be to take apart. I got a newer version and the latch stopped working so I took it back. They said the pivot was so loose the latch wouldn’t close and gave me a new one. Same thing happened. I ordered some loctite and took it apart myself and put loctite in the pivot. Man, I’m not a very mechanically adept person and there were so many tiny screws, and the metal liners coming apart, and those tiny pins held in by nothing falling out, it was insane. Those scale screws have at least 3 different sizes and it’s hard to figure out which go where. Also was surprised to see ball bearings in the pivots. I finally managed to get it back together and it seems to be rock solid. Quality control at some of their plants is going downhill lately I hear. Very cool design, although definitely a pain to maintain. Love your tricks btw, looks very smooth.
You have severe ocd my friend to notice the things you did.
Thumbs down for the Plaguerize comment. Cry more about a retaining latch
