Some of the award winning work of Scott Thompson, news anchor, reporter and The Oklahoma Traveler at KOTV/Tulsa, 1990-2017.
The Oklahoma Traveler with Fred Harris, the only Oklahoman to ever run for the Presidency KOTV/Tulsa
Part 2 of a two-part interview with former Oklahoma United States Senator Fred R. Harris, the only Oklahoman to ever launch a campaign to be President of the United States.
He was one of two candidates considered for the vice-presidency by Vice President Hubert Humphrey in his failed 1968 campaign for the presidency. Humphrey settled on Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine to be his running mate.
Senator Harris challenged politics as usual in the United states with his 1976 run for the White House, proposing radical changes for America that favored the working class and poor, addressing issues that had been virtually taboo in the country's political discussions, like racial equality, poverty, cla...

Three years after my original story in which I followed a severely injured Oklahoma bald eagle to the Zuni Nation's raptor rehabilitation flight cage in Zuni, New Mexico, I return to check on its new role in life, and the interest in building a similar flight cage in Oklahoma, which the original 2001 story inspired.

I follow the rehabilitation of a severely injured Bald Eagle, from the day she was injured on an icy Oklahoma highway after being struck by a truck, to the day she's released to a new life, and a new purpose, in the Zuni Nation Flight Cage in Zuni, New Mexico. The photojournalist is Catherine Curtin. This story led to the creation of the first raptor rehabilitation flight cage in Oklahoma, The ...

One year after profiling a seriously injured Marine from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and his struggle to recover from serious injuries sustained fighting in Iraq, we follow-up to see the progress Jeff Hudgens has been making to walk and talk again, and hear from his father, Russell, who chronicled the long road back in an on-line journal begun almost two years before.

Russell Hudgens contacted me one day in late 2004 and asked if I'd like to read the journals he'd been keeping as he accompanied his son, Jeff, through his rehabilitation after a severe head injury in Iraq. We met with Russell and Jeff at the Veterans Administration hospital in Tampa, Florida, as Jeff Hudgens, a Marine from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, began the long road back from a devastating injury...

As the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination approached in 2013, I visited with two past members of the Peace Corps, a creation of President Kennedy's, who saw it as their legacy in carrying on his ideals which sparked the era of Camelot in 1961. This story was broadcast on KOTV/Tulsa on October 31, 2013, and the photojournalist was Michael Blair.

The Oklahoma Traveler rides with Electric 444: The electricians of Tulsa Int'l Airport, KOTV/Tulsa

When you're flying in or out of a major airport, have a window seat and a modicum of curiosity, do you ever wonder who changes all the lightbulbs that dot the field? Photojournalist Grant Gerondale did, and suggested we follow the electricians of Tulsa International Airport on their daily rounds of the airfield. It's not only 3000 runway lights they're responsible for, but all the electrical wo...

On a pleasant August day, photojournalist Catherine Curtin joined me in Ruby and Gene White's front yard in Craig County, Oklahoma. There, in a circle of lawn chairs, we enjoyed watching the passing parade of hummingbirds, lured by Ruby and Gene's plentiful collection of feeders. Ruby loved this hobby so much that her Mother's Day gift every year was 150 pounds of sugar, with which she'd concoc...

The Keesee Family's rocking chair has quite a story to tell. Three presidential posteriors have perched in it. But even that wasn't good enough for PBS's "Antiques Road Show," whose producers told sisters Janie Keesee Word and Dr. Nancy Keesee Walter that theirs was a "nice little family story." Hail To The Seat was broadcast on KOTV/Tulsa on February 20, 2014, and the photojournalist is Michae...

I had never seen these!
A wonderful special. I've watched many times over the years. You and Stephanie were perfect for this project. Love that last line... "See you at 75." I hope we do you proud.
This area calls to me for some reason.
Cheif Joseph " Because of the children and women, i will fight no more." My oldest son carries the name Joseph.
Thanks for these special videos. Really beautiful.
I wonder if that notebook is still at the pillar guidepost.
wow they actually learned something useful in school instead of just being bored and stressed slaves like kids are forced to be today?
This is so awesome . To see my uncle Thomas and my grandma 🫶🏾🫶🏾
This is a great video! I am sad that in 11 years it's only gotten 211 views. I dearly remember watching Scott Thompson's Oklahoma Traveler segments on KOTV. It was nice to go back to a simpler time for just awhile. GOD bless Oklahoma and GOD bless America 🇺🇸
Yes I'm not only a decendant of chief Joseph but I relived history as well after being shot and forced out from Oregon I made it to the trail of tears in Oklahoma and even further, going "where can I live?" Finally after being displaced and left homeless in Oregon I finally got some affordable housing. Oregon will still try to force you out to this day.Look at there homeless crisis now. And government housing can still feel like your stuck in a reservation today...You may get a place to finally live but you won't get real freedom and they already stole my family from me as well so it's still a divide and conquer mentality in Oregon for some of us. Sad but it's true. Sometimes people must be told the truth!
Thank you. pro ,I'll be back! )
Just great---thank you.
Sounds charming! 3:10 JFK seems very down to earth and genuinely interested in and kind to the people who loved him. Wish we had a JFK today! Rest In Peace 🕊
I thought this was for the 60th anniversary, but it’s for the 50th. Still nice of them to upload! We appreciate keeping his memory alive!
You’re welcome, Alfred. This was my work and I upload it here as I find the time!
Oklahoma is very diverse. Lots of woods in the south and east; and beautiful lakes everywhere.
No other surrounding states wanted it. So they stuck it on Oklahoma
Why is the podium stored away? It should be somewhere where people can view the podium, see his signature and read a short story about that day!
I agree! Would be a lovely little spot 😊
Fabulous story ❤
Went from Camelot to Kamalanot...
Obviously, JFK would be the next narrative that they will blow in their attempt to cover corruption as UFOs aren’t working, so don’t be surprised if you keep seeing JFK circulate throughout RUclips I hear Rob Reiner solved the crime. BWHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BWHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Well Kennedy is gone but NOW those folks VOTE for Donald Jennifer trump. 😞
That’s because Kennedy was a real democrat ! Not like many of the long time democrats in our government of to day! Or any republican … they are both an embarrassment as to the values JFK held for all peoples. In this country and world wide! The uni party of today don’t know the meaning of values, morals, and integrity! They don’t know anything but greed , and me, me, me! The people who make the country what it is, aren’t even on their radar!
Tell "Jennifer" that she will be in jail soon. Oh, and tell "Jennifer" that once was enough!!!!!!!!
I am sure he can find friends of LBJ sitting in the orange crook ( and traitor's) club who can add to your story!
Either or either a integrationist or a segregationist the Kennedys Brothers were integrationist and George Wallace was a segregationist
We could definately use someone like JFK now Biden is a big disgrace Maybe she s right There may never be another president like Kennedy
This is awesome beyond words! My dad played for Ponca City in 1951. God how I wish he were alive to see this.
We still have one of Bob's amazing photos from the 40's on the wall at the Tulsa World.
I love hearing the Michael Hedges soundtrack!
"promosm" 😻
Very interesting
Leslie John Knight 3 June 1920 - 21 March 2005. A good hard working Kiwi.
Thank you for letting me know about Les! He was such a nice man to spend the day with. Both Grant, the photographer, and I remember him well and he always stands out as such a memorable story for us.
My grandfather and uncle were sheep musterers who both passed in 1995 and 2010. They'd both whistle to their dogs or yell... "Get in behind Shep! Awwww bloooody hellll!!! What you doing!!?" etc, can hear them now 🤣. You have a beautiful country as well, we recently spent a month in Florida and nearby states for a family reunion for 16 family members coming from Sydney and Melbourne, Australia and Christchurch, New Zealand. Looking at the "literature" I see and read about, I thought it would be unsafe, but we had THE BEST hospitality in America. Heading to Tennessee from Mississippi on the highway in the vast countryside I could help but think of the brave men in the American Civil War. The Reservation we stopped at for a tour of the Everglades was also amazing. Thank you!!
hi. Scott~ so good cnotent,
Loved it, Scott! Thank you!
I didn’t see any evidence of an old tree!
I grew up with this woman in my life and blessed to have known her.
Wonder why he took the route he did.
Awesome memories all Americans should see to appreciate. Bless you and your talent!!!
Believe her parents were Herman William Vahle and Bertha - they lived in Olustee, Jackson, Oklahoma in the 1910 Census.
I miss you’re Oklahoma Traveler stories. If by chance do you have a full newscast (including a OT story) from 2000 and 2001?
My dad worked at Krcg back then. I used to hang out at the station with you and Rod Smith. So many great memories, hope you are doing well Scott!
Too bad there's no mention of John Hall, Carthage and now of Columbia, who for years organized these reunions and kept the memory of the KOM League alive with newsletters recalling the heyday of the KOM. He still produces Flash Reports for the remaining players and fans.
Very interesting and what a nice group of guys!
I had this wonderful woman as a teacher in Roland.
How aree you?. enjoyed! insane channel-see you later! Scott, 🤩
Such a nice piece that you and Joe did. We had such incredible talent and depth on that staff of photojournalists. I am so glad you posted this to remind us of Joe's artful eye behind the camera and in the edit bay.
I miss Hanna. Only lived there for two years as a teenager, but they were formative years full of friends, lessons learned, and fond memories.
I lived there in '71 and '72
Treaties should be honored.
A very well done piece. The writing is excellent and the use of nat sound helps cement (no pun intended) the story. It's too bad so many stations don't understand the value stories like this add to their newscasts.
God love her for seeing indigenous as human beings worthy of lives.
A great story. No wonder that generation stood apart from today's modern world. Incredible sacrifices. Thank you for sharing.
Washington Irving commented on the Cross Timbers in his book " A Traveler In Indian Territory".
I need to check this place out
