The foreshadowing was one of the great things about Babylon 5. It made you think about strange things that happened and what they might mean, and it also made you note things 1-2 years later that were significant but no one noticed.
JMS was an incredible story teller.
They had episodes where they entered the lower decks where there was basically an underground of people living in the utility spaces of the station. The station was supposed to be large rnough that there were areas that simply weren't under the complete control of the authorities. Evacuating the space station for destruction eould be like evacuating a small city. Plus don't you think that dismantling it for resources would be more reasonable than blowing it up. Sure we let our current space stations burn up in the atmosphere but that's because they are in low earth orbit subject to the drag of the upper atmosphere. It would've been more reasonable foe Babylon 5 to just become a carcass scavenged for mayerials for decades perhaps for generations. It was supposed to be a huge habitat after all, a small worldlet so to say.
definitely one of my very favorite shows of all time. The cast, the characters they portrayed, the story, all superb.
The whole “menace to navigation” thing never made sense. An intact station as opposed to millions of shards of floating metal.
They don't make tv shows this good anymore. I was sad when it was finished. There have been many great sci-fi tv series.
Best Love Story Ever Told
Video gets me all the time. Such a fantastic series.
This, and a few other scenes, always make my eyes leak. Gods, I loved that show... so many of them now in the place where no shadows fall...
A far too underrated show. 5 seasons, several movies, and two spinoffs. And always excellent writing. Realistic and fully realized characters. Impressive back stories and sub stories. The world of B5 has endless opportunities. There are few shows that the alien races are so beloved, and filled with history. I do.have to agree about the elevator scene. This show has more deaths than just about any other franchise.
Best Sci-Fi ever created.
I never saw the last series of Babylon 5...the tv network in my country I think didnt buy the last series....and then after that I kinda lost interest. I think I took up startrek voyager instead..don't remember seeing the end of that either! Also how is babylon 5 and startrek voyager over 30yrs old?!
JMS being the one who shuts things down on the station is so fitting. What a beautiful show! It saddens me that so many of those wonderful actors have already passed so young.
27 years later,, that still brings tears to my eyes. Star Wars is great but for a different reason. Babylon 5 will remain at the pinnacle of Sci fi programs forever, as far as I'm concerned. To hell with the garbage coming out these days. I'm gonna start with season one episode one right now and watch it all again.
Simply the best
I don't understand why they would just blow it up. If you're not going to tear it apart and salvage it, tow it to the sun and let it burn up there. That much debris is a navigation hazard.
Screw it, why do writers have to blow the livin fark outa stuff, or destroy ships like Enterprise. It pizzes me orf!
Thats crazy knowing there is a master switch that will shut down Babylon 5. I wonder what security level the maintenance person has to be able to open that hatch.
Sad to see it go. I bought the entire series. Still watch it from time to time.
My favourite Sci-Fi series. Even Star Trek rarely reached such levels and I liked Star Trek. Well done in both story and character development.
I had forgotten about that excellent explosion.
Epic Series, Epic Ending........
Best Sci-Fi Show ever .... I love Bab 5! Sometimes I think even more than Star Trek ...
It's sad by itself but when we consider the cast members that have passed away over the years, it's worse and it's not just the odd one, quite a few in this clip have passed.
How can a 5 minute video still make me bawl my eyes out as much as it did nearly 30 years ago??? I wonder if JMS realised quite what he did.... I hope so.
Never see this without tears.
Third comment by me (in 2025). This ending still chokes me every time. Luckily my wife had the Blu-Ray box set of the complete series as a Christmas present, so we can binge watch again.
The last man standing it’s very sad that everybody in these pictures that you see there’s only one of them left alive. I find that very sad.
Although they made the demolition look poignant in the end in reality it would have been better and safer to send it into the sun as you wouldn't have all the parts floating around in space causing a debris cloud which would endanger any ship passing through. It's why we don't even practice anti-satellite weapons anymore. We've still got parts of those things floating around up there and at outrageous speeds we travel at in orbit a screw flight around in orbit at 20,000 mph can ruin your day. Also, what's the point of turning out the lights if you're just going to blow it up in the end??
I always complained about the destruction sequence of if Babylon 5. Millions of tons of scrap metal sent off into the universe in every direction to some day impact another civilization who had no idea Babylon 5 existed
Although many of the great thespians that brought this series to life have passed beyond the rim. We will see them again when we meet in the place where no shadows fall.
Farewell old friend
I never understood why the station had to be destroyed
I believe it's because the Earth Alliance was becoming resentful of the Interstellar Alliance & wanted to make small jab at them for the people on Earth. We see what happens a few hundred later in the 2nd to last espoide"The deconstruction of falling stars" "MAKE EARTH GREAT AGAIN!!!"
In its era, I considered it the best sci-fi series out there. I still consider it to be in the top three with BSG and The Expanse.
Just a random switch in a random corridor shuts off the power to the entire station.
Every time I see these last few minutes of B5, I cry.
Whenever I'm in need of a cleansing crying, I turn on the last 5 minutes of Babylon 5. Nothing else gets me this easy.
This scene so very well done, between the acting... and the music, it will bring tears to your eyes. It's very sad that most of them are all gone now.... Very Sad.
Some of the best and saddest five minutes in TV.
It's kinda weird seeing this now and knowing that the first 4 people you see in this clip are all now 'beyond the rim' and only 1 of the people in that elevator scene is not.
I dunno if anyone one watching Babylon 5 today can’t help but see the similarities between the show and what trump is doing in America
Really disappointed in the way it ended. No sequels or spin off, what a waste.
There were two sequels. Both failed. I forget the names, but both are in my collection.
Is a Fucking Classic my friends. Thanks.
Not amazing when the entire 5 year story line was planned before the first episode
This is heartbreaking. I never knew of this. If there is a B5 reboot, it will never be the same, ever.
Best Sci-fi series ever! Loved it. I watch it as once a year.
What's really sad is most of the cast is dead
Every time I watch this scene, the phrase " Don't be sad that it's over, be glad that it happened" comes to mind. I can't actually recall another series' ending that hit me so hard, even on shows that lasted longer.
Muchas gracias, pobres pilotos, el terraplén de hormigón no estaba en el procedimiento....
So sad to think that most of them died. Especially my favorite, Garibaldi ❤
