1/1/25 Terror Attack in New Orleans Today’s devotion; When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?“ John 21:15 Jesus does not need your resolutions, your recommitments, or your promises to try harder this year. Jesus asks for your love. If you truly love Him, your service for Him in the new year will be of the quality that He desires.

    Well said. We must look toward God and and get the people we are training to lead and protect to do the same. You’re right for focusing on the men, the spiritual leaders of the household. We need to start teaching boys and men about what biblical masculinity is. Wishing you and your organization the best in 2025 and Happy Belated Birthday!✝️

    Why do I keep seeing the gun pointed up in the air? Your head/eyes are your turret. Where your eyes go your barrell goes. You are creating a bigger reaction time delay and likelihood of missed shots. Please help understand the purpose. Retired leo, former swat team member.

    I truly miss going to classes. But, as said, at times it felt like the care wasn’t there it was more about retesting and collecting money, kinda like the Tae Kwan do test taking business model, fail them on their test so they have to pay again to test again, money made. Although I don’t think everyone should level up just because, I feel a debrief on performance may be helpful. Not just you didn’t qualify per criteria, but was there something as a student I missed other than the target. I remember being in the scenario room with a senior student, the sim pistol jammed, I tapped, racked over several times to clear the jam unfortunately to no avail which in turn caused me and my partner at the time not to succeed. I clearly remember hearing one of the instructors yelling at me from the cat walk, while I tried to clear the jam, end Ex was called and Once we exited the room the senior student told another student not to work with me “You’ll end up dead” was his words. Although I did not have any problems after that scenario it went against everything I was lead to believe about the ethos of Able Shepard take care of one another etc. it’s clear that most women and men do not have the experience they are seeking from this type of training and others may have more or have been in the program longer, regardless, we are all there to learn. What sets AB apart or different from others is the training and part of the staff, what makes them no different is the people who are in phase 3, 4 and beyond. It’s the culture that sets them apart, yet also the same culture that keeps others from getting better. Just my two cents.

    Liked video. Thumbs down grip has been around far longer than thumbs forward. Just like you said, those who were first taught to shoot one handed understand that basic combat grip and that it does not change. The support hand only adds support to lock in the shooting hand tightly with thumb over thumb. Not only can thumbs forward be less stable in both one handed and two handed shooting but thumbs up around the slide can and sometimes do cause stoppages if not used properly that can get folks killed in a gunfight. Thumbs forward might be a competition grip fad but its not a practical stable combat grip. Add that thumbs forward present a whole new set of problems with revolver shooting. There are those instructors and known shooters of the past that used and still use thumbs down like Jeff Cooper, Bill Wilson, and Massad Ayoob among others. There is a good video on this by Tactical Rifleman called "Grip Your Handgun Like a Professional."

    • @ableshepherd

      Hey Eathen! This is called a "high-gun". You may heard of a low-ready or a high-ready. Typically when in a stack or working with a team mate you might see footage where there firearm is in a low-port or high-port. Meaning either pointed at the heals of the person in front of you, or the back of the person in front of you. There are quite a few problems with this. First, you are pointing a loaded gun at the person in front of you. Second, you have eliminated your ability to respond to a threat. The fix that Able Shepherd has come up with is a "High-Gun". You are able to take that gun any direction you want from a high-gun without violating a firearm safety rule or putting your team in danger. You are also able to deal with a threat via muzzle strikes or hand strikes and you are able to protect your vitals around corners.

      @EathenRice 8 месяцев назад

      @ableshepherd Okay, cool. It sounds like there's a lot of advantages to having it that way. But wouldn't it also be viable to hold it at a high-port but point at an angle off the stack? It seems like when you use the high-gun technique. Both your arms are blocking your field of view. And possibly telegraphing your position and what you are holding. It is situation dependent whether that's a concern.

    That’s what the Israelis use/ I shoot thumbs down because of revolvers. but now that I own automatics, I still do it and will never change. The number one issue for me is certain guns malfunction with thumbs up grips. Unless the user is careful. No thanks I’ll keep my thumbs down fighting position in case I have to shoot one-handed, like in most self-defense instances.

    Heres a 3 year review of my GLS. Its the fullsize since my first EDC was a VP9. Since then ive carried many models in the holster just by turning the allen key a few times. If you buy the full size, you can still carry a sub compact in it and with a jacket on, it looks like an otterbox case on your belt. Going full size guarantees your front sight wont catch in the draw and I had this issue with many holsters. Some railed pistols can catch on the bottom of a kydex holset mid draw and thats nonissue here either with a full size holster on any size weapon. All of them come with the micro shim for the 9ez and other slim pistols. I found this video of my holster 3 years after I bought it, 1 year after the warranty expired and the retention spring shot out of it. It still locks but not with the same click that made you feel secure before. The emphasis on “good grip releases it” is spot on. If someone can come grind on you from behind and mimick your shoulder angle and positive grip, they can get it. But someone facing you face to face will have a hell of a time trying to yank it loose so dont keep your body bladed to threats and youll have a chance. I love this holster, its optic ready for the most part for most weapons and optics but you might need to trim some for some models and options. Its not friendly to any railed attachment so thats a tradeoff but for a daytime use holster im comfy wearing under a jacket in a crowd, 5 stars. If you only own one holster and want it to serve all roles, youre expectations are unrealistic. Right tool right job right place right time. 🍻

    When you flag your thumb you lose control of the handle of the gun. And because your hand is basically open it makes it super easy for someone to smack the gun out of your hand. When you grab something or make a fist you don't leave your thumb out in space. This grip is superior in real world situations. Combined with the Weaver you're good to go anytime, anywhere.

      Weaver or Chapman. I use Chapman that is a modified Weaver. I was instructor taught and trained one handed shooting and thumb over thumb when I first started on pistols and was told never to use thumbs forward due to the dangers of causing slide stoppages.

  • @crakt7015
    @crakt7015 Год назад

    Happy I saw this video. Took the POP class and gripping the pistol this way felt weird but this explanation makes sense. Question: are you ever concerned about having thumbs close to the magazine controls? I suppose our thumbs have to choose between potentially interfering with the slide lock or the magazine release, but wouldn’t we rather risk the former? Thanks. P.S.- I appreciate the effort protesting the pride stuff in Castle Rock. You have way more support on that than you probably know, but we can’t risk getting fired lol. Maybe the time for more boldness is now.

    • @rbm6184
      @rbm6184 6 месяцев назад

      No. The shooting hand thumb when down is well above the mag release unless you have an abnormally long thumb. In fact we have to shift the pistol in our grip to get our thumb down on the release with most autos. The big danger with thumbs forward is slide stoppages, shooting one handed, and shooting revolvers. You don't have worry about any of that with thumbs down.

    I work at a shooting range in Savannah , because we rent guns, we attract a lot of first time shooters. Because it’s what all the “Cool kids do” I first introduce thumbs forward. 90% of the time they naturally try crossing their thumbs so I immediately start teaching thumbs down.
