Er-Gene Kahng (she/her) is a violinist and professor whose work came to light through her advocacy of American classical composer, Florence Price. Her recording of Price’s Violin Concertos has been cited and praised by sources such as The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, and The New York Times as an important contribution to American classical music, and has aired on programs like NPR’s Songs we Love, and APM’s Performance Today.
Er-Gene is concertmaster of the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra; she is co-Artistic Director of the Pierrot+ ensemble, Khemia Ensemble. Er-Gene aims to continue the work of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging by exploring the ways contemporary American classical music can intersect with, and highlight, forgotten narratives of the past and thus shape the musical values of the present and future.

Mastro Florence B. Price. This is very beautiful acknowledgement. This is the music 🎵🎶🎶 I heard in American movies as a child. I am a black American born 1962 and I played classical guitar for about 30 years, studied in the Country Sweden. I finally realized that Florence Price music put an everlasting pattern in my life. My thanks and acknowledgement reaches out to Florence Beatrice Price, William G. Still and Joseph Bolonge a.k.a. St George De Chevalier...

The piece at the beggining sort of reminds me of Tchaikovsky's Andante cantabile.

Lovely performance!! This must be the second set of "Negro Folksongs in Counterpoint"...or perhaps this is the "Negro set" of c.1927, and the 1951 set is the "Set of Five"!! I had read that FP had composed more than one set of pieces!! Are they available in print?? Please advise!!
